I know I'm in the minority but I actually liked the lead guitar. Great heavy distorted tone. Gives the song some grit. However I agree that the volume of it was probably a bit too loud.
It was a wonderful surprise to see her on TV getting this level of recognition and exposure. I've seen her three times in Pittsburgh and she has definitely won me over. She looks fantastic here, as always!

The guitar works perfectly IMO for what she's shooting for. The whole thing is just a little bit off center, from her flat drone to her brother's hilarious jam to the incredibly talented wielding of a guitar. Together they express the frustration and giddiness of love that seems doomed but is too magnetic too break off. Which from my seat is exactly what they're going for in this song. And cute? Yeah she pulls off a degree of cute. But just like everything else in this performance, it's an ecle

THe lead guitar is just poorly mixed in. I saw Jessica live in a small club and the lead guitar was perfect in that case, blending in perfectly creating a bizarre, dense background

@KyleMantegna You're absolutely right man, it's a Supro. I forgot about those. It's a 60's Supro of some kind. It kind of looks like a 1966 Supro S635 with a different tail piece. Jimmy Page used old Supro amps on Zep's early records. Thanks for jogging my memory man!

I have to disagree about the guitar being too prominent. Without that 70s acid-rock guitar she'd be just a weak-voiced folk singer. The guitar doesn't overwhelm, it creates a nice disturbing tension between the songwriter-with-guitar expectation and a mysterioso Pink Floyd production Kinda like it. It is really unusual though.
One thing about Letterman I will miss is how good he has always been to new music.
It's nice to hear this accent in something other than old country and bluegrass.

I saw her open for Ryan Adams last night solo and acoustic. She was pretty amazing but sadly did not play this song.

There should not be anyone on that stage except the drummer and her. Everything else is an unnecessary distraction and does not fit at all.
