NOTE! Butterflyfish usually are pickers that’s the type of fish they are, especially the coral eating ones, I have a teardrop and it took it a while to open up to flakes, pellets and only wanted to eat mysis, then I got it on clams and such also something else is to have other docile fish around to show the butterflyfish that the food is there, usually butterflies don’t hide a lot when they are comfortable they usually are open water swimmers above and around the reef. My butterflies beg for food all the time
It is so nice to get advice from a marine biologist. I feel like those of us in the hobby just don't have the training. Nice to learn from someone that does.
I want biota to start selling butterflies the non reef safe ones also, I have a fowlr tank with a Heniochus and a teardrop and they push eachother around sometimes but they swim together a lot
Caution if you have small butterflyfish keep them with very passive timid fish so they aren’t being pushed around, damselfish are very very aggressive even other small butterflyfish can stress them out if you don’t have enough fish in the tank to form a school of them
We have had a copperband butterflyfish for two years and two cleaner shrimp and one fire red shrimp. We would like to add a small racoon butterflyfish fish. Do you think the racoon will be compatible?
Oysters! My butterfly would not eat and as soon as I offered him a freshly opened oyster(or clam) he went to town and chewed it right down. He also loves the masstick. Now I happen to live in Florida , so I just pick a new oyster every day off my dock to feed, but the grocery store should have fresh or frozen shellfish
I have butterfly fish is tank mates with a tang. . I bought the tang and she would hide new fish the only fish in the aquarium Qt. These 2 mates at the store. So the know I had to do something about it yes I have the same butterfly in my 150 reef that would not work and did not to take away her friend s So gone back to the store and bought the tank mate she so excited to see her freind again now she comes out and eat now
They are my only favourite fish.. Once I start with a real good size SWT, the only fish I d love to keep in it, will be one CBfly fish along with clean up crew
HI MY COOPERBAND BUTTERFLYFISH IS BEEN IN MY 90 GALLON TANK FOR 5 DAYS IN WHICH I ADD WITH LIEUTENANT TANG; BOTH OF THEM ARE NO EATING THEY ARE SWIMMING ALL DAY. BUT ALL MY OTHER FISH ARE LOOKING GREAT. I HAVE MIMI TANG, CORAL BEAUTY, PURPLE TANG TWO CLOWN FISH. I HAD TRY LIVE BRINESHRIMP, BLACK WORM AND BABY CLAMS.
:) Robert was awesome, I'm honored to hear you say that. Thank you for watching. Out of curiosity, what kind of videos would you like to see? ( I'm making my 2021 list now)
@@WaterLoggedLife Thanks for asking... Personally I think delving deeper in simple terms , into the oceans "mechanics" in regards to the food chains and biotopes that we strive to recreate is worthwhile. Obviously the science that goes into foods and the biological processes that result in for example increased slime coats, would be fascinating. In many ways because the product s we purchase are so well researched, the hobbyist has no need to ever consider the scientific/ biological aspects that say quality food addresses...I haven't explained my idea well, because I lack the knowledge myself mostly. However with your background I'm sure you could come up with some content. I can imagine, it's actually a challenge to create content so regularly... Personally I learn a lot from RUclips in general. Looking forward to your 2021 content :)
I was under impression that this will be a video guide how to train Butterflyfish especially CBB to accept prepared food, however Hillary just keeps rambling without actually doing what she's talking about. Bummer :(

Finally. Someone with an education and empirical evidence. Seriously. Thank you

Butterflyfish! I love them so much but have just never had luck with them! Can't wait to learn more!

Starting my fish research. Great tips. Much appreciated :)

Love the videos they are very informative and cover every aspect of fish needs and care.

I wonder if we can just use fresh garlic? I don't live near a pet shop with it.
