I remember my teacher gave me the sheet note when I was a student and I had no idea how to bring out the musicality of the piece. since my teacher had no merci for us when it came to reading notes I had trouble and only managed to play the main motif but eventually I gave up. after watching this I want to find the note and play it, this time the whole deal. thnx. it shows how people can be motivated even by a short video uploaded on the internet. keep up the good work. thanks again

Tarrega, Segovia, Williams and Bream, and Leo Brouwer himself have worked to raise the musical standards of guitarists. Yeah when I was beginning to study classical guitar around 1996 I learned a lot of pieces from the sheet music, but never got to hear recordings, let alone see the composer performing them! I’d go to the public library and hope they’d have the CDs, but they only held major works. Eventually I got to hear recordings by Bream, Williams etc and compare the ways they’d interpret pieces. Fast forward to the current time and RUclips, Spotify, composers’ and performers’ websites, online tutorials etc have made it so much easier to hear pieces before deciding which ones to work on.

As far as I know Maestro Brouwer did not claim that this was his own original theme. Juan Mercadal had played it in Cuba way back into the the 1950s. Juan played it in a different key. Juan called it Bailecito y Huani. Juan's arrangement also did not show the name of the composer of the original song/dance. Perhaps that is not even known. Maybe someone can weigh in with that info.
