Between 60-70 million people speak the Amharic as their first language. Yes, ‘it’s the oldest continuously spoken Semitic language predating Arabic and Hebrew, 33 characters each having 7 variations based on vowel sounds.’ Very succinct description.

@@samuelbelay7251 you are missing the point!!! It is not about how it is educated or how literally developed. It is about how historically old and influential during the time of pharaohs!!!
Amharic is for sure spoken widely in Ethiopia but it is because at the cost of the other languages like Tigrigna which was deprived.
The Ethiopian feudals snd the rest dictators of Ethiopia deprived us to learn our beautiful languages. Amharic was an oppressing language that is why it is dominant now in Ethiopia!!!

@@asebawi Well I’m Amhara & I have Royal blood in me & your right we made a lot of mistakes here & there & I think everybody makes a mistake but at Least we created Ethiopia 🇪🇹 And when the scramble for Africa started & when every king & queens we’re selling there people & land We Defended our Motherland with Blood & sweat. We kept Ethiopia 🇪🇹 free from any conquering imperialist Weather it’s Ottoman Empire, the British Empire or the Fascist Italian Empire or any other who dared to try us. You should at least be grateful for that. Instead of hating us constantly with blind hatred. You know we weren’t always like this it’s that JUNTA TPLF that spewed all this Haterd amongst us backed by the western countries. They couldn’t defeat us in a war so they decided to divide us within & TPLF was there perfect instrument! It’s sad but it is what it is. But we are back now Abiy is ours he’s implementing our agenda & goal & that’s to make ETHIOPIA GREAT that’s all that matters. @@Modagne23 I don’t have any animosity towards AmHara people on contrary I love ‘em. My point is about the languages nothing else, reality is not what we have learned in the Ethiopian schools.
“AmHars” were once tigrigna speaking people but not the “Amharas”.
Amharic is now a diverse language, the whole Ethiopia and Eritrea speaks the language. But “amHaras “ are as Habesha as tigrigna speakers!!

Before the Amharic language, Ge'ez is the oldest language in Ethiopia.........in fact that language (Ge'ez) is the one believed to predate many of afro Asiatic languages in East africa and south Arabia. Amharic is the youngest, Especially when compared to Ge'ez.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR EXPLORATION AND INTRODUCTION -
Amharic is not only the Ethiopian national language, rich in unique literature
and in the HUMANITIES (including the EOC and philosophy) but also the African heritage and symbolic pride as well. Strangely enough, though, some creepy and disgruntled (minority-based politicians -the powers-to-be of the day) after the fall of the monarchy are trying to vitiate its aura and status by referring to it as mere
functional "lingua franca" in government jobs or even to replace it with fabricated pidgins rather than keeping it as the NATIONAL LANGUAGE of Ethiopia. Such forces are bent on disparagement of national unity and dismembering the territorial integrity of the country, incubating endless civil strife and disorder - that in view, they are doing everything they can to vandalize and destroy historical relics and cultural heritages, in the hope of rewriting history from the void! The current constitution, for example, bluntly declares that Ethiopia has no national language!! The Oromo renegades even ventured to introduce European alphabets to write in their language, (like the other nations of Africa which have lost their heritages and have been languishing under European colonialism), instead of using traditional/indigenous characters of their own as kept intact with rugged independence - the national language.

Amharic was initially developed as a language primarily for military communication or as a form of military code. It was later adopted as the official language after being introduced into the palace during that time. However, afan oromo is the third largest language in africa 🌍. It is spoken by over 60 million people, including Uganda, Tanzania,Kenya, and more neighbour countries in africa.

Amharic and Ge'ez are the oldest language in Ethiopia As you mentioned.
But Ge'ez language is spoken by few people ,, almost not spoken.
And Ge'ez is the service language of Ethiopian Orthodox church with Amharic language.
Amharic is spoken over 60 millions native speakers .
In all Ethiopian region people can speak Amharic fluently..
Some enemies try to make you confused on comment.

Look, I have a theory (without proof). But first look up the word Amhara in google and its meaning is one who/which is good looking, gracious etc. America is possibly evolved from the word Amharic with an a at the end (Amharica). Thus America adopted a name that essentially captures the true meaning of Amhara which in Amharic also means exactly same as in google.
