BEST video ever on this topic!!!! Wow. I am so impressed and I do not impress easily. I was happy to see you fix things rather than throw them away and buy new stuff. The backing plate was bent inboard. The other small piece of metal at the top of the hub that was bent, was bent outboard. Someone tried to work on this brake before you. They were not as skilled as you. The rotor would not come off for them. They put a pry bar between the backside of the rotor and the the backing plate. When they pulled on the pry bar, they forced the backing plate inwards, bending it. At the same time, the rotor was not free of the shoes and the thin little plate at the top was bent outwards by the shoes that were "stuck" to the rotor. Pulling (or hammering) outwards on the rotor pulled on the shoes that pulled on that little piece of metal. Your brake job (and mine also) was hindered by the cable being rusted to the cable housing, and the adjuster being seized with rust. TWO problems! The previous mechanic used too much force and not enough WD-40 in that cable housing. You were able to solve both problems. Vey nice work.
excellent, informative and humorous video! I feel much more informed to take on my 1977 refurbishment! BUT, as a retired railroader with safety first….please consider the use of safety glasses and latex gloves.
I just subscribed because it is the only way that I could show you how much I value your work and content, plus the lack of $100.00 bills to hand out is directly proportional to the amount of parts my C3 needs. I just started the process of restoration and was glad to find a real professional that knows rushing and taking shortcuts is for the disposable vehicles, not the classics. Thank you for sharing your work experience. It must be twice as difficult to do a thorough job, and make a great instructual video. Both are "Boss" in my book. ~Corey
Thanks. I've had my 75 garage queen for 46 years and 103k original miles. Rust is no problem in the desert where I live, but an emergency brake overhaul is in order. Your help is appreciated.
Every C3 owner should be following you, it’s absolutely worth it. I went to auto mechanic school in 1982-1983 and I got my certificates. I think you would make the best teacher ever. YOU DA MAN!!! Thank you for sharing
Been watching all your corvette videos for the past 9 months. Many times over. Definitely the best instructional video set for C3 on you tube. Oh and my 72 turned up yesterday. Finally 🙂
One way to unseize it is to remove it and soak in a bucket of diesel fuel for a day or two. Any cable like a lawnmower cable or even chainsaw chains clean up great. Love your videos. Saving me $$
Great vid. I am in the middle of doing a entire 4 wheel brake job, new rotors, calipers and pads. I and I just ripped off the p-brake shoes from the rears. Both top springs were bent bad. In fact I think the top spring was actually not even connected one the driver side. I have new springs on order. Going to replace the pads with new ones anyway. I will need to work the cable like you did. The adjusting wheel on the pass side was seized up. rusted. Good I took em off. The e brake has never really worked right and would stick when I would engage it. Which now I know why. More to come. thx.
Subscribed! Your video was a huge help in replacing the parking brake shoes on a 1970 C3. I had to drill to the original rotors off. Vette was in storage for 31 Years!
Another excellent explanation on how everything works and how to assemble and take apart and how to fix. The only thing I was a little disappointed in was that you didn't really "clean" everything up like you usually do :-)
What you can do is, take a baggy, tape or zip tie or wire it to the cable with the opening pointing up. Fill it with a mixture of trans fluid and some other thinner solvents. Leave overnight. It will run back down into the cable and free it and lube it. Works great for any cables that you can get to the top of, like motorcycles etc too.
Great video. Wish I had this last month when we took my parking brakes apart. Taking the C clip off and putting the device that engages the brake shoes in separately is a lot easier than putting it in all in one piece. I know.
Excellent video, as were the rest in this series. Thanks for sharing and I have obtained many key things, from all the videos, although I'm dealing with a "79". Thank you, Brother.
Great video. Quick question what if my hand break works but my light stays on the dashboard? Any suggestions on what could be the problem? Any info will help.
Hey, Just wanted to let you know that your videos helps a lot. Just bought my old neighbor's 71 Stingray C3. It's getting shipped to France there I leave know. At the time in the 2000s I helps him to rebuild it when I was only twelve 😅.
hi question.. the pin thats suppose to be in place when you take off the rotor to attach the shoes to the hub is NOT there on both rear sides of my car ( its suppose to not come out??).. what would you do in that situation problem solver?? hopfully you have an easy fix...thanks
I think someone may have switched the brake shoe adjusters between left and right on this car because the original workshop manual says to tighten the brake by moving your hand "away from the floor on both the left and right side".
I am having a similar problem so I plan to do something similar. However, do I have to remove the caliper and take off the parking brake cable? I would like to spray WD-40 into the parking brake cable sleeve and pull the lever until it breaks loose internally without taking the parking brake cable off. Is there any reason this would not work? My corvette was converted to disk brakes at some point so no drums.
I have a 78 vette and can't get the hood open , the cable broke going to the passenger side of the hood, the driver side released but the passenger side didn't. I've tried going thru the hole behind the latch and I couldn't release it. Don't know what to do next...Ralph
I just noticed that my parking brake light on the dash stays on when the brake is off. My brakes are all good and brake fluid reservoir is full. Do you think it could be a switch under the console or maybe a fuse? Let me know what you think. Thanks
Could be that switch under the consul That’s attached to the emergency brake lever, it either gets a ground or it doesn’t that’s how it works, so you could easily test it
@@ProblemSolverGarage It turned out to be the proportioning valve. Had a mishap and lost some brake fluid from the rear brakes. Evidently it was enough to trip the valve switch on top of the proportioning valve which cause the brake dash light to come on. Anyway got it worked out and no more dash light! Thanks.
My friend my breaks are seizing after driving my corvette for 20 minutes or less and then I have to stop until the breaks cool off. Any idea why ? Please let me know. Thank you
Well you're not giving me enough information but sounds like you need everything checked over. Could be seized calipers, collapsed brake hoses, seized brake pads.

Great video! Help can I just delete the drum brake. No Corvette shops in a hundred miles and I can't put mine back together!!! Ahhhh
Great video. Very detailed and easy to follow. Keep them coming. Also the tip about rust proofing the frame was great. Definitely going to do that.

True guys but we fixed our e-brake guys!
Great video. I have an issue with my emergency brake on my 1980 vette and now feel confident that I can do this - Thank you!!!

WD-40 is great but on really corroded stuff. I Like PB blaster.

Thecorvetteben has a video about stuck hoods. Between him and problem solver you have all the info you need.
Yeah sorry guys I haven’t dealt with that yet so I don’t know
Good luck
Good video, anyone should be able to adjust Ebrake now…
Thx
Love the videos. What size tires are you running on front and back?
Thanks, the car is no longer in my garage so I will have to take a look next time I’m in the country which is where the cars
How did you get the rotor off? Mine also had the rivets drilled out, but it won't wiggle off as yours did even after using a rubber hammer.
Find the biggest sledgehammer you can get, place a 2 x 4 on the rotor and hit it is hard as you can
