- We headed down to Streetcar Takeover Indy and stumbled across these two serious turbo Dodge Neons running in the front wheel drive class! We couldn’t help but check out the pair and see what kind of power these guys were laying down! The two cars are very unique, one being a stick shift single cam (highest HP to date in a single cam) while the other is an automatic dual cam setup. We love seeing these giant tires bolted to the front of these lightweight cars, make for some badass burnouts!

Having owned 3 first gen Neons myself, I can say it's a good platform to play with since they're very light, dirt cheap, very common, and you can always find stuff in the junkyard for them. Downside is, they look odd, and the aftermarket is almost non-existent because most Neon owners are broke already (that's why they have a Neon)
Broke? I have a 4x4 tacoma, a C5 corvette, a Toyota Camry hybrid, a Honda CBR 954 RR, 3 houses, own a campground. Oh and I still have my 95 Neon I bought new in 95. The aftermarket is slim because it focused on Honda in the 90s.
@@crosisofborg5524 broke ?that man is a joke lol i put 10 grands in mine(srt4) but still neon :D and i know bunch of ppl who put much much more in their cars...heh non existent aftermarket lol there is a plenty manufacturers and custom work in the community.keep your neon safe and in good condition and it will thank you.slowly they became nearly impossible to find in good condition.some owners are ready to spend thousands for nice acr or coupe for srt4 swap which is very popular

If only Dodge/Plymouth had built an AWD version of these cars... Then we would really have something to look back fondly on. And it would have been fun to see them with head to head with the rally-based legends of the day, Evo, WRX, etc. Oh well, that was Dodge in the 90's.

nothing about a dodge is american made, its metal and parts come from all over the world, its a american company with foreign parts and was probably assembled in mexico js
+Malin Harmon every car in the fucking world is assembled with imported parts. The first gen neon was assembled in Belvidere, Illinois. It is about as American as any other vehicle manufactured from the big three.

Haha! Brings back fond(ish) memories. I used to hang out with a group of Mopar guys, their dads had Mopar muscle cars but we (being 18-25) could only afford Neons, so that's what we 'hot-rodded'. My 4-door stick Expresso was a pretty fun car with the Stratus 2.4 (we all swapped them, one guy's family were Mopar junk people so there were limitless cheap/free parts), computer and suspension stuff, and wheels and tires. Certainly no speed demon, but surprised the hell out of a lot of folks and was a blast out on the country roads of southern Ohio/West Virginia/Kentucky. Another guy had a gutted 2-door that he eventually swapped all the new bodystyle SRT4 powertrain and a lot of the suspension stuff into (LOTS of bugs to be worked out), that thing was an absolute terror, and too fast to run legally at our local strip due to no safety equipment. All that said, I'm surprised these cars are this slow. I know it's not an ideal platform, but for the kind of money they've obviously put into them, the payoff seems extremely minimal.

Yeah, all the Import & FWD classes were dead soon after that. People swore FWD / 4 cylinders were the future and muscle cars / V8's were dead back in the early 2000's. Ummm, yeah, no. Just another fad like the late 70's van era and 90's mini trucks.

The comments section of videos like these are always hilarious cause it shows the divide between fan boys and true gear heads. Gear heads will usually appreciate any build because we respect that the owner took time, effort and money to actually build something that required some depth of knowledge to achieve.
But car guys actually see the stupidity in 1 pass, 1 transmission. You can respect the build all you want, but if you're doing it wrong, then you will be told about it.

Need help with my dodge neon 2000
Changed all 3 engine mount and transmition mount but my engine is still shaking like crazy when I still at stop light or sign & when I slowly release the brake it shakes as well.
Running out of ideas I don't know what's going on

Some guy was once showing off his Neon with a loud blow off valve, pshhing up and down the street, pulled up next to him at a stop light (I was driving my stock 04 Eclipse GT) and he wanted to race. Revving his engine and I was just laughing, for fun I launched out of the light and beat him by at least two car lengths to the next intersection. I could not stop laughing after that and the look on his face was priceless.

First time i ever saw a Neon was on NFS, thought it was ugly and whey would it be in a racing game. Then my grandmother had one and i got one for my first car. Loved that thing! Went off roading in it twice. It might of smelt of mold and went through a quart of oil every 2 weeks but i loved that thing,
If someone would please educate me: what is the purpose of those circles cut out of the rear bumper?
Lets trapped air out from inside the bumper to keep it from acting like a parachute at speed. I'm kinsa wondering if that's why Chuck from Street Outlaws has the back bumper on he Death Trap cut in the way that it is.

First gen neons had no turbo. SRT4 was the first neon to be turbocharged from the factory
If these were AWD from the factory, these would be as beloved as the classic WRXs and EVOs.

hey thanks 1320 video for showing luv to the 1st gen neon it's slot of power you can get out of them just nobody never really worked out the problem because of car haters but I have a 1st gen swap an I have 350hp an I'm super close to 11s just need some Dr's it's alot of unique an sleeper ish the neon has with its motor that's cool as hell but you have to be an owner to know I'm not tell none of them but thanks for showing luv maybe when you guy do neons again you can do my car stay up an you know it's mopar 4life hahaa

srt4's are fun cars. They are a handful when they get up over 500whp. No matter what tire, running full power and traction below 100mph gets difficult.
