Sir, We are Hugely in debt to you(and undoubtedly of course to the serviceman then for their service). Thank you so much for these Interviews. Thank you, Thank you SO much.
Nicely done, Shiv. Lots of great detail, and thanks for putting pictures of the mentioned individuals and relevant maps/ref... High-quality production. Please do more such videos on different operations too.
The Mig 25 pilot, Wing co Thakur, who took the photos deserves special recognition. Why hasn't it been given till now is unbelievable. Very gracious of the Air Marshal to give him a mention. Without those photos, it would have been quite complicated. What wonderful stories of our heroes and our machines! 🙏🇮🇳
All mig25s were classified. Only after 2005 when they were decommissioned we are able to get these info but now its a high time we should recognize him
If you go through the interview again, it was clear that the Reconnaissance Mission was top secret one. Our think tank would not have wanted to make things go public.
@@rahul0526 I can understand and respect that...but in the years after this public recognition should have been done. And, today in the year 2020...what is holding back the Air force and the govt from giving our hero the credit he deserves? I just can't understand that! 🇮🇳
rahul kapur Yeah right, I was not in anyway suggesting why it can not be done now. I think he must have been recognised internally in his Annual Appraisal and would have been given the benefit in terms on early promotion and some medal from IAF chief or president. But I think a public recognition does not form a part of standard Reward and Recognition process of IAF. It is the job of Defense ministers, Govt, public and the media. But seems they take more interest on the final kill show and they largely chose to ignore the solid teamwork behind. At the same time, how are we going to know all this if no one from inside IAF come out and tell us such stories of bravery. Now, I think media should take this up and recognise him publicly so that entire nation comes to know about it.
I second the thought. I strongly agree that mig 25 pilots are absolute Maverick and should be given a special mention and recognition. Bharat Mata ki Jai 🙏🇮🇳
In 1999 i was in school. A patriotic science magazine that gets published in vernacular had covered kargil war story spanning almost 24 pages. I read that very curiously. It had mentioned details about Tiger hill, mirage 2000 aircraft. Today after 21 years i feel overjoyed to listen the hero himself narrating. It's amazing. Thank you Shiv 🙏🏻
I had a Mirage 2000 sticker which someone from the IAF gave me in 2001. I kept that in my notebook for such a long time. And that kept inspiring me to give a series of SSBs, first of which was in the IAF. Although I am not in the forces, I still believe that photo of Mirage was the single most inspiring thing I had.
Such a pleasant surprise to read someone's comment with whom you have spent your early childhood. You are an inspiration Sabeel...soar high. So proud of u
excellent narration of a complicated mission with limited tech support. This narration can be understood even by a layman. I am forced to remember my experiences during the 1965 and 71 wars both in the eastern and western fronts as a sr. tech supporting person. Hats off to you, sir.
Sir,You r my commandant at ASTE. You are a gem of the person.Mr Shiv,i have read your books.Kindly write a book on the role of Air Force in Kargil. Surely ,I will be the first one to buy.
We all as Indians very proud of our forces. Shiv Arror & Gaurav savant are very special & favourite analyst. Thanks Shiv for bringing such a wonderful details. Please do more such videos. Jai Hind.
This story should be converted into a war movie. Great clarity, logic and the right emotions in his voice. I felt I was flying with him!! I also saw the video on Wing Com. P J Thakur. He too was very clear. Without his mission it would have been a blind date over Tiger Hill. As rightly put by Air Marshall Nambiar, time that Wng. Comdr. P J Thakur is duly rewarded.
We really wish you were the chief... But व्यक्ति दिल से और व्यक्तित्व से chief होता है। ना कि ओहदे से.. you will always remain our chief !!!
Thank you for the interview and Air Marshal Nambiar for bringing out the key tactical battle turning point with Munto Dhalo as media had only focused on Tiger Hill and him giving credit to does who deserve it
Excellent interview. Such a gracefulness of Air Marshal Raghunath Nambiar to give credit to whole team for his crucial mission. Beautiful narration by him makes that mission more lively to all of us. Thanks and kudos to Shiv Aroor for the interview.
That was a great victory in the icy hills back in the day. Mirages did perform exceedingly well. Kudos to PJ Thakur, Raghunath Nambiar and all other unsung heroes of IAF.. Thanks Shiv for a great interview!

Wonderful narrative skill of Air Marshall Nambiar at display here. Wow... Total quality. Amazing. So precise. No wonder, IAF is what it is... if you have such talent, you ought to be best in the world. Frankly speaking, I was in a trance while he was narrating. Was stunned absolutely. Consider this as the base and someone, please make a film or a web series of the this operation. Not only will it be a hit but will boost the morale and motivate thousands and lacs of youngsters to join the IAF. Is anyone listening?
Salute to Air Marshal Nambiyar sir and all the team members. It was like sitting on the edge of a seat listening to him - goosebump moment for me was the bombing, Felt like I took that flight with him . Thanks Shiv for giving us a chance to hear him.🙏🙏
We visualise the scenes Infront of our eyes, as Nambiyar sir explained,, we also observed that temper in his eyes and voice. A great salute to You sir, Like from anantapur AP. At that time I am studying 1st Year Graduation, And one of my villager fought as a soldier in the Indian Army named Hanumanth Reddy,, he is the only son to their parents. And his father makes phone calls to him and ask about the situation, he replied that we are face to face in firing, don't hope on my life, be brave, like that. Right now HE completed his service in the army and staying in village. We are all proud of him.
I don't know why this video featured in my list from youtube after 3 years. However having been to SSB's 7 times(2 time for the air force), my admiration for these forces has increased manifold after watching this video. This video perfectly embodies a very well known saying "You do not fight with the army you want, you fight with the army you have'. Instead of squabbling with HQ for the Laser guided bombs reserved for different targets, our forces used their ingenuity and resourcefulness to create a desired weapon.
This is an amazing interview Shiv. Sat glued to my seat from start to end. I recommend putting an intro music and end credit music signifying the brand livefist is becoming.
The Foxbat was such a rare gem the IAF had in its inventory stationed at Air Force Station, Bareilly ( Trisonics squadron). The legend has it that Mig 25 "Foxbat" was a classified aircraft and only 12 or 14 IAF pilots have ever flown it and much of the IAF had no idea of this aircraft presence with the IAF. The aircraft so secret and dark that it was flown in a dismantled condition.
Most aircrafts try to fly below radar scan to avoid them. Others like U2 or mig 25/31 fly above radar scans. China and Pakistan couldn't do anything because they didn't have anything to counter
Salute and Respect To The Air Marshal Raghunath Nambiar and also entire IAF Team and also to Mr. Shiv Aroor for bringing such a Heroic Tale of Our Brave Fighters to Us the Common and Patriotic Citizens of India🇮🇳. Salute and Respect to you as well Sir. Keep up the Good Work. 👍💯👏. Jai Hind Ki Sena 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳. We ❤ Our Indian🇮🇳 Armed Forces. Never Forget Wing Commander PJ Thakur Sir. Salute and Respect to you. Very nice interview. Thoughtful. Full of information. Very descriptive. I wish we had people like him who had come up to explain the operation against Pakistan last year.
therez a difference between surgical strikes and a full blown war. one more thing Raghunath sir is no more part of IAF he z retired but the guyz blown balakot may b still flying so its no point to expose our soldiers just in the name of proof or evidences. may be u gonna hear these stories too .... someday

Lot's of respect to Air Marshall Nambiar... I still don't know why the hell IAF not gone for more mirages2000, if it was so good, in fact history tells us, from kargil to Op parakram to Balakot strikes, M2000 have been the go to fighter jet of IAF...

An excellent episode. Mr Aroor, I just finished reading your books ' India's Most Fearless ' and found three volumes very absorbing and informative for an average Indian civilian. Yes the other day a retired and a very old Air Force officer mentioned that, Air Chief Marshall S.K.Kaul (Rtd) who was the Air Chief around 1995, was awarded the MVC, during the 1971 Bangladesh operations inthe eastern sector. I have not found any account of it in any of about half a dozen books, I have read so far. Having retired as the Air Chief, his details would be available in the Air HQ. On enquiry some one told me he is at present residing in Gurugram. Why not interview him too ?
Air Marshal saab. I realise we have outstanding ground staff and of course the fliers. Congratulations. I have a doubt. You mentioned there were only 61 bombs. Do you mean we hand only such small numbers of that specific type. I hope we have adequate number of bombs of all kinds now should the action last longer time. Finally saab you are very humble. Jai Hind.
i remember watching this video in BBC. It was such a thrill to watch such a thing never seen before. I remember seeing the enemy running upwards the hill top when the bomb exploded.
