I remember taking those old sleeper trains from Shanghai to..(I forgot where😉) about ten years ago.
That's why I like the new clean, fast, comfortable high speed trains that much.
But you're right about the views, low speed trains and buses give you far better views than the new fast modes of transport.
Like a famous deceased dutch soccer player once said "Ieder voordeel heb zijn nadeel" , "jedes(n, m?) Vorteil hat sein(es?) Nachteil".
Normally you need to exit the platform then go through security check and everything again before entering the platform. However you’re running out of time, e.g. for really short connection time, do ask train staff for help! They can lead you through urgent passages. Some big train stations will have dedicated transit passage for those that need to change train. It will led you into the waiting room directly.

Is it possible to select the beds/ seats on Chinese trains?
Yes you can select it while buying in the app, however they still sometimes choose seats random for you and you can't make 100% sure you get the seat you asked for

I think you misunderstood the information. I never heard of slow trains have to give ways to fast trains in China for more than 20 years, they are running in different types of tracks. The only situation when trains delayed or cancelled are when flooding or other natural disasters hit the track. My friend used to living in Germany, he told me trains in Germany is unpredictable there's no way to make on time, is that really true?
Unfortunately yes German train system nowadays is not good, we've 16 federal states "messing" with the nation wide system + lack of funding for years resulted in a weak chaotic network
I think he misunderstood it. You’re absolutely right that the high speed trains are using different tracks, and have nothing to do with the green trains. However, there’re still so-called slow trains and fast trains within the green trains. And it’s normal for a slow train to give away to a fast one, esp. when it’s already late. It’s not that common nowadays but still exists.
