      Hello! The “if” construction is something I teach near the end of my beginning class or the start of my intermediate class, precisely because it is a bit tricky. The key is to practice it a lot so it becomes automatic. Good luck!

    How do you say "If i were A ...." ? (in the sense that for example "If I were a teacher, I would not make exams")

      Hello! Thanks for the kind words. In that case, you can use the following structure: ကျွန်တော်/ကျွန်မ သာ ဆရာ ဆိုရင် ... (Kyanaw / Kyama thah hsayah hso yin ....)" The structure "X သာ Y ဆိုရင် ... (X thah Y hso yin ...)" means "If X were Y ..."

    I bought your book and I have been waiting for the other book for a long time. I plan on going to Myanmar, probably before it will be released. Do you offer any online tutoring? I'm in the middle of the states so I won't be in california any time soon.

      Thanks for your support of my book! I have already turned in my last edits, but the publisher's print production queue is such that the book is coming out in September, I'm told. I teach a class in UC Berkeley, but not online. Sayama Cherry teaches on italki online, by the way. I've heard good things about her lessons. Please give her a try. www.italki.com/teacher/1705267

    Hi Sir, I come across this word, အကယ်၍, also means 'if', or 'let say'. Are they the same? Can I have example sentences using အကယ်၍ ?Thank you.

    • @BurmeseLessons
      @BurmeseLessons  6 лет назад +3

      Hi Kay! အကယ်၍ is more often used for writing because it sounds more formal and literary. People tend to use တကယ်လို့ when speaking. Both အကယ်၍ and တကယ်လို့ means "Suppose ... / Let us say ..." Here are some examples: (literary, formal) အကယ်၍မနက်ဖြန် နေသာမည်ဆိုပါက ကျွန်တော်တို့ ဘုရားသွားမည်။ (casual, spoken) တကယ်လို့ မနက်ဖြန် နေသာမယ်ဆိုရင် ကျွန်တော်တို့ ဘုရားသွားမယ်။ Both version means, "Suppose it's sunny tomorrow, we'll go to the pagoda."

    how do you say while/whilst in burmese ? t hanks :)

    • @BurmeseLessons
      @BurmeseLessons  Год назад +1

      You can use the particle တုန်း (tone/done) after a verb clause to say "when ..." For example, ရန်ကုန်ရောက်တယ် Yangon yauk tae (I was in Yangon)." vs. ရန်ကုန်ရောက်တုန်း Yangon yauk tone (when I am in Yangon). ညစာစားတယ် nya zah sar dae (I ate dinner). vs. ညစာစားတုန်း Nya zah sar done (while I eat dinner).
