Yes. We know that Tom Holland is not actually Agent Connor. However, we did not know that was a hot dog. In our defense...who holds a hot dog vertically?
As many other comments have stated, everything that you expected from this game, can be found in “Nier:Automata”,which is a masterpiece in its own right,so maybe you should play it after this for contrast with the themes you claimed lacking here
@@dafire9634 you mean booty simulator?
Christ you are fantastic. I hope you understand just how remarkable it is that you managed to do something in the gaming segment of youtube that is actually unique and new, when the market had become so unbelievably saturated with basically the same old shit. Fantastic series.

This game is really divisive. Shelby sees a burrito, I see a hotdog. Much controversy
A painful but important debate, thanks for being brave 👏👏👏
I saw a hot dog as well
But was the hot dog black and blue, or white and gold?

The soundtrack is amazing for this game. I love this game even with its problems. Connor and Hanks story was really great.
I literally got chill down my bone when Hank decides to... you know.
@kshamwhizzle everyone is weirdly invested in Connor. Jacksepticeye spends his entire playthrough fanboying Connor. 😂

I was pleasently surprised by this game, the visuals were stunning, and the bit where you sit down to play a piano in the game for the first time... that gave me goosebumps.

It's probably a part of their real dialogue, tbh. My husband and I consistently talk in quotes whether that be movies, tv, or random internet movies we've seen in the past. Something we are discussing will remind us of a pulp culture item and we'll say the line. That's what's happening here. I bet when they discuss and she writes the videos, these pulp culture references come up and then it gets put in to emphasize a point or create comedy.

I found Conner and Kara’s storylines very engaging and full of emotion. I didn’t ever really feel connected to Marcus. But maybe Kara’s story resonates with me so much because I have a daughter myself and projected my own desire to protect my real daughter into Kara’s pretend daughter.
Same here. Cried multiple times.
Personally, I feel Kara's story is the weakest.
Don't get me wrong, I love Kara, but you remove her from the game, and nothing in the overall plot changes. Connor's and Markus' plotlines actually end up intertwining and merge part way through the game. But Kara's just off doing her own thing. Feels very disconnected from the rest of the game.
Also the "Alice is an android" plot twist is stupid.
The points you've brought up are realy interesting. I'm quite curious about how'd the game turn out to be had it not been such a big story, but maybe a more personal one. Less saving the world, and more understanding it.
That would've been great, actually
I don't understand the question. A woman trying to secure a child is not personal? A dude abandoned and left for dead finding his place at an unexpected community is not personal? All of the bigger questions were asked within the boundaries of things anybody could experience if taken to the rock bottom of society, often against their will.
it would still be bad since David Cage is a horrible writer...
@@taehwanpark303
Did you not read the part that says "less saving the world"?
I loved Heavy Rain much more than detroit become human because it was more grounded and focused on a single serial killer mystery. I wish David Cage would write another crime noir type game

I had been suggesting that and this for a long and I had honestly given up on this so maybe that means Until Dawn is coming soon.
Yes! At least Until Dawn had no illusions on what it was trying to be writing-wise, which is campy, B-movie horror, unlike the pretentious mess that is the Quantic Dream games, always taking themselves far too seriously with their stories, and coming up severely short.
Unfortunately they made like a 1/3 review for Until Dawn

@@GoBlueHTB Haha, I can understand that. As a child I spent probably far too much time trying to work out if you could actually defeat the Basilisk in the game on the bonus disk of HP and the Chamber of Secrets...
Marcus’ story was about liberating slavery on androids.
Connor’s story was about loyalty and becoming of free will and choosing what is right and wrong.
And kara’s is about finding love and affection which is a very human emotion.

It's funny some people found that ending so powerful, I am one of them. I understand your button pressing issues but I really didn't find that as a negative. I'm glad to see something different in the industry, and finally a game where your decisions actually alter the plot. Really enjoyed this game, and loved discovering the different endings. I felt like that ending the "war" was extremely underwhelming and weird. They straight up heard their messages and STILL decided to try and take all the androids out, and then right when they were about to kill the last ones... The androids singing... (or kissing??) makes them all be like. WAIT!! This is definitely one of my favorite games every but i 100% agree with this review.. Which is really weird lmfao

@DejaVoodooDoll
The very word racism is an oxymoron by itself and Holocaust details are debatable
@DejaVoodooDoll completely missed the point. Then again, not like much was expected of you to begin with. Try harder.
@DejaVoodooDoll not decisive opinions at all but the hamfisted use of them in the story is immersion breaking since you're no longer thinking of the games story but "oh hey that's that thing that happened".
@DejaVoodooDoll Besides the insult, Jaspin is right in that you just missed the point that the OP is making.
@DejaVoodooDoll You're just being a condescending asshole for no reason at all, dude. Chill out. Besides, I get the point that the dude was trying to make. He didn't say that racism wasn't real or anything like that, he was just trying to say that what's racist for some may not be racist to all. Hell, it's probably not racist at all.

I love how your progression went from a girlfriend's perspective on watching people playing video games. To now one of my favorite voices in all of video game reviews. I can see the effort you put into these videos. You're awesome keep doing you.
I loved this game! Great review, though I found that the quicktime events were a good way of keeping it cinematic while raising the stakes and keeping you engaged. After you said it however, I agree that a game purely focused on the dialogue elements, fleshing out the decision making process and creating more implications for your choices would do this type of game better justice. Those were my favourite parts, winning over jericho's people, getting alice to trust me, and befriending hank are the most meaningful memories I have from this game. Albeit that my heart was pounding as I frantically mashed buttons to try and stop future cops from killing my 3 android besties, I think those sort of quicktime events are better suited in the way that Spiderman employed them. She knows death sounds so well i hear giggles from other rooms now.
We started with Horizon and she became hooked on the story and the speech trees, moved on to FF15 where when she missed an important bit I'd give her a recap.

I love it when you get more analytical. The title and comedic tone of your channel entails that your here to provide entertainment over criticism. But when you get critical, it becomes clear that your more than just an absent minded backseat gamer. Your are paying attention. Your not clueless. And you recognize when a price of art needs improvement. Dont hold back on being critical. That would be like holding back your intelligence.
Right? Like, holy hell. I loved and hated the game for the same reasons, but couldn't put together the exact reasons why. My home girl did that in less than 8 minutes.
I kind of disliked this particular video because it deviates significantly from the channel's premise. She hardly even mentioned her BF in this and that's kind of the point. I know that these are just barely hidden actual reviews of games but still, that backseat gamer element is essential.
_Her boyfriend is a professional editor and he does pretty much everything even maybe the script._
Maybe not the whole scripts but yeah, she makes plenty of references to things and events that a casual gamer like her would likely never even have heard of. That's probably her BF's contribution.
Games where your character choices inform the development of plot and outcome of the game and lead to watercooler conversations already exist: they are called (tabletop) RPGs.
Since the TLoU2 video you guys just keep surprising me. This is much deeper and way more profound content than what I would expect from a comedy channel. So awesome, keep it up!
Excellent (actual) review of a game that has obvious flaws, yet remains so compelling. I totally agree that the Connor and Hank portions are the standout parts, and a Bladerunner-esque interactive fiction centered around Connor apprehending androids while having an existential crisis would have been not only a more focused project (the three perspectives did a disservice to the game's pacing), but would leave more room for questions about humanity and identity without the historical plagiarism.
Great phrase btw, "historical plagiarism", gotta steal that! :p jk
A good game would ask you "Are these androids human?"
This games is just like " But they're human! They're definitely human! Did you get that they're human yet?"
How can a good game ask you "are they humans" while letting you role play as them.
The only way that comes to me is role playing as humans which in this kind of story would give a whole other experience and a fairly cliche one.
@@DanDSoul frame the player's choices in the story as the programming, and then as the game progresses, if the story wants to make them seem more human take more control from the player. You could even have a climax where a player android is placed in a situation where they have to make one of two hard choices, save one of two people or something similar and if the player chooses the one that the android has less rapport with the android can deny the player - the analogy for their programming - and show self-aware actions and thought.
Or explore sentience in how the androids respond to situations based on their pre-built programming versus things they've learned.
Those are just two possible ways off the top of my head.

The game is not about androids but about humans, the androids are just allegories, and the real question is not: "what's the difference between a machine and a human?", but the more interesting: "what's the difference between an automaton and a living being?". Spoiler alert: the answer isn't between having flesh in the gut instead of iron.
@@baptistelasbats3952 Huh... I agreed with you up until the last point. XD To me the game has always been about what it means to be human, and alive. o 3 o
@Gladissims Basically I see that I hadn't red everything correctly. I agree with you on everything, except on "what it means to be human" :).
To see how much parallels can be drawn between androids/machines in the game and real humans, I think that Taro was telling that human adopting the behaviors/beliefs of his characters could be called "automata" as well, and that the only difference that matters isn't between human and machines but more between automata and living beings: being human isn't equal to being alive.
The fact that there is no human in the game to serve as a living model for the robots seems to support this idea to me.
@@baptistelasbats3952 Huh, I mean if that's what you took away from it that's great. XD Personally I interpreted the whole thing a bit differently though. Especially with all the references to famous philosophers who were concerned with existentialism especially. o 3 o I mean... One of the pods is literarily named (0)42 xD
Excellent review, felt more like a "slavery is bad" type thing than an exploration into artificial intelligence, disappointing really..
I know this will be very controversial, but the thing about slavery is that it wasn't bad. The reason why all human civilisations in the past had slaves was because the ones who didn't have slaves got destroyed by the ones who had them. I.e. slavery was so good that it meant being exterminated without them. It was only with the invention of industrialization that slavery started to become a bad thing, since things more profitable to invest in, such as machines, started to appear.
@@kasp7674 holy shit even for youtube standards this is an insane comment. I feel horrible for the people around you.
@@twodotso ...why? The guy is saying that slavery was very important for the prosperity of a land in history, like cannibalism can be very important in surviving Arctic ice. Nobody is saying that it's good now.
@@kasp7674 I'd say it is always bad ... for the oppressed side. But I understand what you wanted to address.
@@kasp7674 Do you seriously believe the critic leveraged against slavery is its lack of efficiency? No one argues forcing fellow human beings to work for you under threat of torture or death is not a somewhat efficient way of gettings things made and done. The problem is that it is absolutely morally abhorrent and a denial of the humanity we all share to siphon the sweat, blood and dignity of other humans who are every bit as sentient and sensitive as you to produce work for you while they get *nothing* out of it. That is what is bad with slavery. And it absolutely, totally and irremediably is and always was.
Just found this channel today and I absolutely love it!
That's one of the best reviews I've seen! Thanks for the great video
I love how you edit your videos, and your voice is really sweet ! Keep up the great work !
Red Letter Media and Girlfriend Reviews. The best two things on youtube!
Don't forget PewDiePie
I clapped when I saw something I recognized!
@@poposterous236too good and true
@@Akshay-ji9nt Eh. PewDiePie is a great guy, don't get me wrong, but I wouldn't say he's the best.
Highest Popularity =/= Highest Quality.
Just take a look at Fortnite.

I cant believe I just discovered this channel! You two are hilarious
I was so surprised when you said that I recommend this game that I thought I misheard. Btw thanks for the videos I listened to several of them while working at home today, you have a good personality for youtube imo. I think you might like Heavy Rain, if you haven't tried it yet I am not sure it would work on this channel but some VR titles might be interesting especially horror ones or half life alyx.
I think you’re given more choices if you deliberately fail some quick time events, the actual binary decisions are pretty sparse
That Britney Spears bit got me good! 😂😭🤣
Ikr..I couldnt stop laughing there. Had to pause and collect myself. I remember watching that video on MTV back when TRL was on
Adam 😂😂😂😂 classic
One of your best reviews in my opinion. Just pitch perfect. Keep killing it!
Thank you for this awesome review @Girlfriend Reviews
I could have used a "Trigger Warning" for Legion. I wasn't ready for the feels.
I was not ready for Legion again. I'm not crying, you are
I came here to say the same. Too soon. 😭
Mass Effect for sure had a much deeper discussion of AI.
@@yurymol yeah... exept in his ending...
I love your videos, so good editing and writing.
You’re spot on - Connor and Hank’s story line is the best bit!! BY FAR!
0:05 Holy shit I remember playing this on DVD as a kid
"the world's most advance choose your own adventure"
just shows that more people *NEED* to play the zero escape games.
you did not see any choose your own adventure before playing those masterpieces
I love Zero Scape, and it's one of a kind in terms of exploring the "gaming" side of branching narratives in a awesome meta way.
But if you MUST explore all branches to find the end in every game, is it really a "choose your own adventure"? You're not choosing at all
@@teobaldominattoscussel7865 you sure as hell do choose your own adventure. the name is in the trailer "choices you make in the future influence the past". it's all about the choices you make and the information you get by these choices.
which all ultimatly lead to the "true ending". the part of the adventure that really happend at the end. but before all of that you choose your own adventure.
I played the second and loved it even if the puzzles could get annoying at times. I bought the third but never really played it, gotya get to that.
"Does this unit have a soul?" T_T
2:16 one of the best editing I have seen on your channel, and you have a bunch of good ones.
