Thank you for taking the time to explain for potential patients. I had a full l set of the snap dentures and for ten years could not wear them at all. After a few months of them falling out, can't bear them in my mouth from pain and anxiety and cant eat with them. They were in a drawer the entre yen years I had them. So I had 2 posts on top and 2 on bottom sticking up but no teeth for ten years. Now for the last eleven years I have FIXED Zirconia full set with 13 implants to hold them. After healing it took me about two months to adjust to the pinch pain then they have been as good as my original teeth with no maintenance needed. I eat anything I want with no movement and nothing over the my roof. Just like teeth should be. Its more expensive but worth every penny. I could suggest schools for implantology sometimes give huge discounts for patients that allow them to demonstrate to students while doing procedures. I cant say this enough. No matter what your doctor will try to have you settle with... If possible GET FIXED DENTURES!
As my prosthetist explained my options, I was going traditional, then changed to locator on the bottom and standard upper; and ended up with four implants top and bottom for locator on the bottom, and a bar locator on top. Yes my cost tripled if not quadrupled. At nearly 57, and close to $40K to $50K in standard dentistry over my lifetime; other than maintenance, this will be my last major dental procedure. And my cost will be about equal; but my quality of life has already skyrocketed, and I’m still using adhesive to hold my intermediate standard dentures in place while my bone grows around the implants. This last part was my “gotcha” point. Not 100% guaranteed, but with implants, I should retain some or most bone structure, so in twenty years, with my dentures out, my face will not look like a Bugs Bunny cartoon collapsed in on itself. I took money out of my 401K to pay for some of this. May sound insane, but what good is retirement if I cannot enjoy it? Constant toothaches, going for root canal again and again. Wishing I had enough tooth structure to get a bridge again. The first came off when the anchor teeth gave out. Crowns come off when the tooth base rotted away. If you have the means, somehow, someway, do it. Spend the extra, because I can tell you, standard dentures are awful when trying to do my job and fulfill my church functions of leading the choir.
Im 33 I was only taken to the dentist 2 times as a kids up until I was 18 ..iv struggled with them ever since car wrecks and boxing has done them in I have no eye tooth part of the next one and part of my big tooth is missing it split up the side and then same thing with the next one... My bottom teeth are ok it's just my top ones I don't know what to do I don't want to smile or anything...I have insurance but I think it will only cover dentures..I just couldn't stand to have dentures in my mouth...I'm at a loss on what to do..iv been looking at implants but I don't have 50 k for them....I just pray I don't wake up with another piece of tooth in my mouth....Glad to hear you got something that makes you happy.
@@Mayhem6466 my 8 implants were just at $30k This included being put under, pulling all my remaining teeth, the implants, and bone grafs, as well as all my follow up visits thus far. At nearly $1K per tooth any time I went to the dentist before; for dentist, root canal, specialist for root canal, crown, etc… I paid more over the years than the implants cost. If you only need the top, get four implants that snap on a bar. Then you can take it out, but have better than 60% bite force, and no roof cap from a standard denture. *NOTE* The temporary denture before the bar is placed, while your bone grows around the implants will have a top cap. It’s not nearly as bad as I was led to believe it would be. If you have insurance, ride that train for everything you can get.
Thank you, Doctor. Husband is looking to have his remaining 16 teeth extracted and replace with dentures. My question is; He has Osteoporosis. Would that preclude the use of implants? He is 79 years old. And, yes, cost is a very big factor. I very much appreciate your informative video and I am sure it will help us to make the best choice for him.
All on four, do the teeth feel like crowns? I have crowns and they feel like my own teeth. Good to know that you can mix and match too. Great video and very clear explanation.
Thanks for the information. I'm to go for my impressions in February. I had the surgery on toward the last of October of 2022. I'm a little nervous but, looking forward to getting back to eat a little again. I've lost weight since the surgery!!
A friend of mine lost her lower tooth, close to the middle. She is from Macedonia. So when she went for a visit, the dentist put an implant where her tooth was lost. He did an amazing job. All done in 1 day! The cost was only 60 us. I couldn't believe it. Macedonia is NOT part of the EURO. I might be going with her for a holiday. And u can bet I'll do all my teeth there!!!
No, she didnt. She meant $60 I paid 7400€ for all on 6 top and all on 4 bottom, zirconia fixed teeth, titanium implants.. inc full meds, scans, xrays etc, temps and perms.. i went to sofia implant.. amazing.
Doc, tks. for all your info. I have four dental implant lower but the dentist I got was not good because the denture he had on me broke and had it done twice and now it's broken again and the one I had is a permanent denture and it's hard to clean too. I wish your office is close to where I am. I want to know where in California is your office. Take care always and be safe.
Quick question: does a full replacement have to look so artificial, or can it be made more natural looking, with the teeth a bit gapped or crooked, and less than sparkling white color? I've seen people wearing these things and they stand out like a sore thumb for their artificiality.
Hi Dan, your dentist should be able to accommodate these variations. You can have gapped, crooked, stained and yellowed teeth designed into a denture to make them look more realistic and personal.
They took pictures of my natural teeth, and let me pick the color shade. They kept the size similar to my natural teeth, and I specifically asked for them not to look "perfect" and they did phenomenal. I think if you see dentures that stand out, then they were probably poorly designed, way too big, way too white, or ill fitting for that specific mouth. No one can tell my teeth are fake. If done correctly and by a reputable dentist, you shouldn't be able to notice someone has them.
Dr, I appreciate your informative video. In the beginning you kept reiterating about gum disease. However, it was not mentioned in terms of denture placements and the treatment process. I went to see a periodontist a year ago and after a full exam and x-rays, my prognosis was advanced periodontitis. The Dr also showed me models of partial dentures vs full dentures. I had some bone loss, pretty sure it has worsened by now. At the time of appt, I had all of my teeth but they were beginning to space at the top. Later, I ended up with a slight gap and then a loose tooth came out. I hated it because it was directly next to the gap causing it to appear wider. Now, I have a gap on the opposite side and that adjacent tooth is now loose and protruding outwards. Initially the Dr wanted to pull a total of 14 teeth and allow me to keep the rest. Four of which are my wisdom teeth plus the front upper and front bottom. I wish dental was not a scary thing, but also more cost effective. During my research I also read that it can be hereditary. That got me to thinking because my mom, father, and maternal grandmother all had dentures or missing teeth. I am depressed about the whole ordeal because I'm only 43 and should not be thinking about teeth replacement of any kind. My issue is that with gov't assistance insurance dental stopped at 21 and I never had insurance after that. Instead I paid out of pocket for my cleanings and the last one was told that I needed a deep scaling. The Dr explained the procedure and made it sound terrifying so needless to say 20+ years later never got it. Was always in hopes that technology would have evolved by then and it would be a less invasive procedure. Needless to say I was right but at the circumstances of my issue becoming way worse then it started off. LANAP is the ideal route to go but lesser people are certified to perform it. Also, I am type 2 diabetic so I was told my alc would have to be under control before it is a good option. Now, my alc and other labs are normal, but I do not have the funds or the stable job to help me save🤦♀️. Sorry for the long story just wanted to address a little dental history on myself.
with all the technology they have it definitely shouldn't cost as much as it does... how can they justify 50k for a mold and a few screws...the cheapest brand new car with thousands of parts and screws cost less than implants
Thank you, Dr. for the excellent video! I am in NY - Where in CA are you located? I would like to meet with you about my teeth if possible ..... or do you have a referral for someone in NY ? Is it best that I meet with a prosthodontist about my lower remaining few teeth and options? How do I find a board certified prosthodontist? Thank you so much
Dr I'm wondering where your practice is I went to 3 dentists they all told different things. One tried make a denture and it never fit. Other said I may need a nap in but I don't have much gum or bone. I just want a real answer so frustrated

Now the original prosthodontist is in jail (for unrelated reasons) and the second surgeon who worked in the same office that did my second surgery now works in an office out of town, and no one will service my dentures or change my locators.
Is there any other way to keep regular denture for lower in place without implant?Like using dental fixative cream? But even after using the cream, lower denture seems to come out. Please suggest some way to keep regular denture(lower) in place without implant. Thanks in advance

I do miss that BBQ stake though!

Might be a good time to go with snap in since I will need immediate dentures so I can chew but I wonder, how much pain will this cause as the wounds and implants will be fresh... Implants. Hmm. Like 5 grand a post? Good for the bank president, not so much for the $15.00 per hour working stiff.
Dentures suck! Both upper and lowers!
