Just bought a 125 xc and anxiously waiting for your opinion on the 36mm Keihin swap. The bike has enough power for the slow tech riding I usually do but a little more low end would be nice.
I tweaked the 36mm keihin pwk and I have only ran it for a minute and it runs way better off idle. I did research on the 125 engine and for motocross a 38mm is the best size because the max velocity is about 37.70.
Bro I am 56 I don't need a fire breathing dragon. I decided to put the 36 keihin on because of all the input I have gotten from people on the internet. I have been telling my 250 2 stroke buddies that the 39.5 pwk is the best carb for racing a 250/300.
I suppose I can get the 36 taper bored but again I am 56. Motocross action test rider Mosiman has a bored to 39 tmx on the gasgas 150 he raced at the world smoker
Hey Morgan I have a 21 Ktm 125xc having a jetting problem with my Mikuni still figuring things out on it. Was wondering if it’s the oil and ratio as well went from 32:1 now I’m 40:1. I always hear and read don’t pass 40:1 but most guys run 32:1 a bit lost. Thinking of going with a kehin or a smart carb to solve a lot I do trail riding and for sure wanted to know your take on it if you don’t mind? Sea level is no higher then 1000ft at max.
Do you have any recommendations for this carb so it works better for trail riding, i have a ktm sx 250 and this is what came with it ( Keihin pwk 36 S AG), but the bike runs super rich on low rpm. Great video as always!
First - know which needle is in there and the clip position it’s in. May just need you to move the clip up one notch. JD needles always get you right in a good ball park. But Suzuki needles are magic in the ktm. Just get a few and find the right needle for temp/altitude you’re at.
Why exactly did you decide to mount the 36mm kehin carburetor, what is the reason for choosing that precisely? Is that the best carburetor? I await your clarification, greetings.
Morgan - what about 38mm Keihin PWK Short AG with the STIC. I’ve heard great things about that combo for 125’s. Although yes they are great for over-rev and top end. They do also make power everywhere and also gets the jetting even crispier than JD Jet kit.
I’m sure that’s a great setup. The difference is that I had this carb sitting around and so it didn’t cost a penny other than my time. I also really like 36mm carbs on everything. I don’t spend a ton of time way way up in the rpm’s just because of what I like to ride and the 36’s seem to be spot on for the tight stuff.
Also- on my 2018 250xc- to get it to fit when replacing the Mikuni- I actually have to grind that Cap off the PWK carb off more than just flush I think. When I ground it flush it still was not enough to get the 3-5mm play. Even with adjusters wound all the way in. …Right now the throttle has almost no play. Is there another ktm cable you know of that would be longer? Also my 38mm pwk looked like it fit in the airbox boot the same! It looked like it needed to get pushed further in, but it was as far as it could go. No air leaks as far as I could find/hear. Also. I have a JD jet kit for 125/150cc And the pilot recommended is a 45 My 250 takes a 42 pilot

I am assuming that you used the notch in the manifold to align the keihin?! On my 18 150SX I am 1 or 2 mm short on the manifold, but it should be OK. I might upgrade the manifold.
If you want more power talk to dicks racing carbs. Bore the EFI 40 to 41 and put a Rev pipe on it. It is too early into the development stage for mapping to be Manipulated to its most effective especially when 4 stroke technology is more important in order to sell bikes.
I am talking about your 23 300. In my opinion a guy like you only needs your new xc300. Bikes are so expensive that by the time you have completed all modifications you should commit to racing and practicing on that bike.
