Are you planning to knit a colorwork sweater soon? If so, which one?

@@embeemakes I love the Norma by MFTK that is in my queue since it was released 😅 Maybe it will be my next project. I also love Saltburn one by The knit purl girl, so maybe this one as well. I'll see 😊

I love all the patterns you showed. So far, I am not brave enough to try colorway.

Hi Emily, these are intermediate to advanced colourwork projects so try a simple piece with some spare yarn. 100 grams of each colour is plenty. Colourwork/Fair Isle always works best in the round so think about a simple cowl. About 118 stitches for DK or aran yarn, joined to knit in the round on 4mm or 4.5mm circular needles. Do half a dozen rows K in colour A then add in colour B and K AABAABAABAABAAB to end. Next row K ABAABAABAABAABAABA to end. Next row BAABAABAABAABAA to end. Repeat these rows to the depth of the cowl you want minus 6 rows. K the 6 rows in either A or B as you prefer. Cast off. It's not easy to describe how to deal with the B yarn while K with A but there are loads of good tutorial vids on YT. Personally I like Nimble Needles for clear tutorials. If you really don't like it or you want to have more practice, you just don't cast off but simply frog it and reuse the yarn. Once you can do that neatly, the Jeju sweater design Melissa shows here only has colourwork on the body so you don't have to worry about shaping. Or pick a plain sweater pattern you like and design your own central band for the body as shown on the Jeju. You'll soon be confident enough to tackle Lumme sweater. I would also suggest you look for a knitters' group near you. They will be delighted to help you and will be a fantastic source of knowledge and tips. Just go for it; the worst that can happen is that you need to undo some work and start again.

Starting with something smaller and easier is best with colorwork probably. I did my first colorwork with socks, and while it went well it's a bit tricky because you need to be able to fit the sock over your foot. At the moment I'm knitting my first colorwork cowl. And if you are familiar with charts colorwork with 2 colors is really not so difficult. Give it a try!
