I doubt anybody's gonna hit the side of the anvil to make it shatter, but still they let an anvil pass inspection with bondo. Well when you pay Harbor Freight prices(one-time use) its bound to break.
This is a pretty common practice with cheap castings. You get what you pay for
You get what you pay for. For how much it costs and what its going to reasonably be used for, it's probably just fine. This was a $65 anvil, where a high quality one for a lifetime of regular use is more like $400-500

Watching the anvil being opened up with the water jet and exposing the flaw in the anvil was great. I think that you should contact the company that cast the anvil and tell them that they have a quality control issue. If it was me, I would. That may constitute a fraud on part of the company.

That's actually really awesome - I'm not sure if I'm more impressed that it took basically half an hour for water to saw through that chonk of metal or that you uncovered shady anvil sales practices through sheer luck, both are kinda really awesome!
As for the website, I'm not sure what else you might put up other than links to all the relevant things (the channel of course, a patreon if you're doing that sort of thing, any social media pages, etc) and a store, but I for one think it would be neat just to have an image gallery of a lot of the things sliced open once you've finished with them. My biggest selling point on you guys to my friends thus far has been to pause a video and be like "so did you know a bowling ball is basically just a jawbreaker too big for your mouth" and show them.

I worked in machining briefly. Building decks for amazon robots...porosity cavitation etc was usually stricter but they were under pressure to produce so stuff flew that usually wouldnt...nothing even close to that bad however. Harbor freight China made i bet

That's an anvil from harbor freight. It's only a cast iron anvil, not a real steel anvil. So it's definitely not very good quality. But it's good for just getting into blacksmithing.
Anything harbor freight is suppose to be one-time use, i doubt any serious blacksmith or let alone any professional would go to that store for quality.

It isn't. The defect isn't on the face and in all practicality no one using an anvil hard enough to break it even with that void would buy one from Harbor Freight anyway.
I'm not defending the 'quality' of this anvil or the ethics of its manufacturer. It's total bottom tier and made by greedy jerks, but the defect here isn't specifically dangerous.
MacClay8 actually it is a major defect. It can cause many injuries by any that purchased one and actually uses it. I know many blacksmiths that could break that off just shaping horseshoes.
I never disputed that it was a major defect. I said it wasn't dangerous. So long as you don't keep your unprotected face by it while your buddy hits it with a sledgehammer, it isn't. Unless you are using power tools, the mode of failure is 'a piece fell off', not 'a piece flew off and embedded itself in my leg'.

I was working at a Boeing plant as an outside contractor and they had a water jet cutter . I got to know the operator and he let me play around with it now and then. I had so much fun that it cost me money as I started to cut my own tools up like my hammer and such because I was having so much fun. Very impressive the way these computer-operated machines can do anything you want by the way of making intricate designs. Very cool
