That teacher is so sweet. What a freaking gem

I wish every student had a teacher like her.
Then we'd all have smashed windows...
what a wholesome episode, I wish nothing but the best for all parties involved

Props to this teacher, I worked and taught at a school like this on the Westside of Chicago for 14 years (6 years teaching). I can tell she gives a damn and she's still holding him accountable.
I wish the young man success. You can tell he has a great amount of potential because of how he carried himself in court.

I worked at an alternative school on the Westside of Chicago. There are teachers who care, but few and far between. I should add, a teacher's job in these types of environments can be very stressful and taxing, especially when teachers have little to no support.
The plaintiff has a wonderful attitude and outlook. The world needs more people like her.
I think He's gonna do great things! With his grandma by his side, positive reinforcement from his teacher, his homies that saw this episode, positive comments and all. That teacher is so kind and needs a raise, none of them truly get paid enough. God Bless Grandma for doing her best to steer him the right way. Hopefully, his mom can seek rehabilitation one day ✨
Unfortunately he passed away October 10, 2013, soon after the filming of this case.

That was the most emotional case I've seen yet. I've also worked with young adults with behavioral issues & I praise the teacher & Desmond for accepting responsibility for his actions. I'm also diagnosed with ADHD, as well. I wish him All the best of luck & hope he gets the professional help he needs & follows through with possible combinations of medication(s) & therapy to succeed in life.
I just love you Judge Mathis. You are such a good soul. Would love to meet you . Surely in my bucket list. God bless u Sir for what u do
I've been diagnosed with adhd and I'm so grateful to judge Mathias for understanding. The world can be so cruel and ignorant.
Yes best of all thus far
@@wellnesswithfrugalmama I totally agree. Bullying is mean & especially when it comes time to children with special needs.
Shout out to Mary Lopez a dedicated and an amazing woman
Teachers like her are.needed thanks 😊
This is a nice change of pace, no drama or scandal. Just a simple case with a positive outcome
What a great teacher. She really cares for him. I hope he listens, and finds success and his place in this world. Despite his challenges. 💯🙏🏾
He was killed
This was one of my favourite episodes.... The positivity of the teacher was everything to behold, Judge Mathis was so on point with his advice and Grandma stood by him whilst embracing the need for his accountability. I pray the young man stays on course and gets all the help for the bright future he deserves. Thank you JM, your words went beyond the case and has definitely touched a couple of other lives like me.
I love when she said we have a great relationship what do you think Desmond and he responded very politely yes ❤❤❤
What a good mentor she is!
Bless you Ms. Lopez. With Grandma and Lopez by your side Desmond… we rooting for you. Most young men in your situation don’t have this support. You got this 💪🏾
As to the adhd, I have a child who was diagnosed with such at age 7. I NEVER medicated him. We sought alternative solutions for him. He's now an adult; 24 year old Sargent in the Marine Corps!!!! He did have an IEP going through school, has been in counseling most of his life, had a mentor since age 7. I refused to pump him full of meds!!!
I was looking for a comment like this. I'm not on meds and I'm living a great life. I have learned to cope with things in life while not medicated.

The teacher is AWESOME❤
She never taught him don't smoke, don't break rules, don't vandalize, don't ever make good on your wrongdoings, and always force your victims to sue, give her a gold star!

Ms. Mary Lopez has such a positive sweet vibe, as she shared he is a good student and only wishes the best for him. A perfect example of a caring human who was gifted to be an example of an educational and social mentor.
She seems like a great teacher and beautiful person. She’s very forgiving and hopefully he got his emotions together because he’s going to be another statistic 🤷🏾♂️

What an amazing educator!!!
Mr. Mathis is a master at his craft! Yes, he’s an awesome judge👨🏾⚖️, but he’s also a great PERSON who remembers where he comes from. Many people tend to “forget”, especially if he/she reaches a certain level of celebrity. He’s a mentor, has organized & orchestrates many positive programs which has actually saved lives & freedom from incarceration & almost certain death due to behavioral/drug issues. Prayerfully, this young man will do great things in life. Thank you JM!

Or maybe because some of those medications do turn them into zombies

Damn, just saw that this young man was murdered in 2013. Probably shortly after this case... So unfortunate. Peace

His grandmother and teacher are both amazing women!
Grandma always picking up after them bad kids
He probably also has abandonment issues. Him being locked out of school then denying access and being questioned about doing something wrong or having something on him triggered him because he probably thinks he was abandoned by his mom for doing the wrong things.
I pray that he is doing well

It was a great episode. The only thing I might add is he should have left out the great runner (Oscar Pistorius) with prosthetic devices because he also became a murderer. He killed his fiancée or girlfriend, who was a model, and it's South Africa.
Good episode ty great teacher and judge
That's the first step to teaching the young man how to take responsibility for his own actions. He acknowledged it and seems fearful of any repercussions. I have a feeling that he's going to do well in life!

Now this is a teacher! You can tell she truly cares about her students!🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
We need positive role models like she and Mathis out here in the world
I was waiting to hear them call out possible depression. Depression in boys can also come across as disorganized, acting out, poor focus, lashing out etc and he has a valid reason to be angry, feeling abandoned and we don’t know if he was born positive tox to any of the drugs mom used! I feel for him
Whenever a student is illegally smoking, breaking known school rules and smashing cars with rocks the first words that come to mind about them are "good" and "decent"🤔
Genuine teacher ❤ and Des gone do his big one as long as he has support 😊
This child needs deliverance. He does not need medication. Been here done this with my own child. Annoint his head, and pray deliverance prayers over him. Hosea 4:6, our people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge. Sabbath, my son went up for annointing prayer. All touched in agreement, and annointing prayer was prayed. We believed, had faith, and went home, and flushed them pills down the toilet. Never looked back, and my son is healed. God is able🙌🏽
A lot of folks I know allowed their kids to be diagnosed with adhd and whatever else just to get a check. Some pretended to take the meds got older grew out of the misbehaving stage and some became addicted to drugs because of the meds. In my opinion medication is not the answer for behavioral issues in young kids. Figure out not cover up what the problem is.
That runner with the prosthetic legs the judge is talking about killed his own wife.
How sad. This young man died from gun violence in 2013 at the age of 18. 😔
This was just beautiful prob most beautiful case I ever seen aww
How old was he? He didn’t seem like a bad person. He was easily able to admit that he did do the action and say that he was wrong, a lot of grown people don’t even take accountability so he earned my respect.
Every kid in America has some behavioral problems of one kind or another from the food, social media ,entertainment and television . They're screwed up from the moment they are delivered in the hospital
