There's a difference between BioWare and Rocksteady... BioWare didn't just about-face into live service games with Anthem; BioWare had been slowly dying since EA acquired them. Likely won't happen, since there's far too many based Indie devs. Ever since Pixel came out with Cavestory, indie games legitimately run amok with ideas the AAA devs won't do anything with. Take a look at the vast majority of Metroidvania and Roguelikes/Roguelites that come out these days. Almost never by AAA devs.
I think the next "crash" wouldn't be like the 1st one where it all came tumbling down at once. It will be more like a series of tsunami waves, where several studios and publishers will start closing or consolidating with each wave. I honestly think we have been in the midst of it for years now (2020 being a bit of a speed bump because of the lockdowns and stuff causing people to stay home and consume more entertainment in general)
As a gay guy in my 40's I couldn't care less about a character's sexuality. At no point growing up did I feel left out not having LGBT people in games and I've being playing games since I was 5. It needs to be an enjoyable game with good characters. Developers need to stop trying to make a fictional character's sexuality central to a game: it won't make it better if it's awful, and it doesn't make you some sort of "phobe" for not liking it.
Wait wait wait, King Shark, a human shark hybrid is bi-sexual? So he likes both male and female sharks? What about trans sharks? Any particular species of sharks? Like BBW Whale Sharks? or like Kinky Nurse Sharks? I have so many questions.

I agree with James. When I worked at BioWare, I saw the writing on the wall. I was onboarding there when Trent Oster was deciding on whether or not to leave. In a meeting with him in the room, Trent mentioned how he was happiest when making Baldur's Gate and BG2. Even KOTOR and Neverwinter Nights was fun for him. He was upset with where everything was going and me, being my age and rather old-school myself, I felt he was right. James and Trent share a lot in common in thought and deed. So, yeah, Trent also decided to go make his own studio and Beamdog was born. Though, you could argue that even they have been infiltrated by the mind-virus with additional changes they made in the enhanced releases of BG and Neverwinter Nights.
Don't give up hope for the indie games out there. Legitimately, ever since Pixel released Cavestory, some of the best games have been the indie developed ones. Metroidvania games with stuff like Cavestory, Hollow Knight, and the Momodora series, or the Rogue styled genre with Binding of Issac, Our Darker Purpose, Cult of the Lamb... I could go on, there's dozens of good indie games released each year eating AAA studios lunches.
Why does Nintendo give you hope. They lock classic titles, and butcher their communities, only thing Nintendo does semi well is not spewing out as much dogshit as these other publishers. QA goes hard at Nintendo, as does their legal team.
ah yes, the company that hates all gamers who don't bow to their crappy console and fires lawsuits from a minigun at the whole population to suppress competition instead of just making better stuff.
This reminds me of the Dead or Alive fighting game franchise. The developers wanted to appeal to a broader audience, and essentially it killed the game and possibly the entire franchise. And the DLC aspect of the most recent release is abyssal. Truly sad, as the game is very fun to play.
They see the toilet water is spiraling and it’s time to get out for their own survival. It’s like elbowing the guy just behind you in a race or tripping someone while being chased by bears

What that dev said about making games for total hours of content is what I've been saying for years. Older, shorter games were better because they were content dense and didn't have a lot of fluff. The exceptional games of the time that were long also didn't have fluff. But at some point the number of hours of content became a selling point and developers started adding a ton of time wasting, monotonous fluff, if not outright chores, in to pad hours, which has made for lower overall quality. Side quests should be full on quests, not a chore list.
I'd be very surprised if Sweet Baby aren't involved with Dragon Age 4, hell Bioware isn't even Bioware anymore, none of the OG's are even there anymore.

These are the same people that say Resident Evil 5 is racist. I NEVER went through the game thinking "L O L LOOK AT ALL THE BLACK PEOPLE IM KILLING". People with an inclination towards being a racist jump at it quick though. Games aren't supposed to mirror the real world. Games are supposed to mirror an adventure the consumer wants to go on. Games aren't supposed to teach us morality through beating and berating us, they teach through unique experiences and engaging story and characters. We don't need to LOOK like the main character to feel like our own main character in our life.
Seems like back in the day all superhero games would be rushed out and made as cheaply as possible now we have the exact opposite problem with games being far too expensive to develop and companies getting too deep into their productions to be able to right a listing ship. The best solution the industry has come up with is "hype the game and fix it later". Which is eventually just going to toxify your relationship with your audience.
Barely they’ve had a few good takes but they’re still too afraid to pull the band aid off. If IGN wanted to explode with good will they would become mega based
It’s the difference between Creativity and Passion. A creative mind can make a bunch of fancy things but theirs no soul behind it. A work of passion might not always be flashy but theirs heart put into it, it’s a focused vision. The best games have always been the ones that came from the heart.
honestly with how dark Bioware has been on the state of the Dragon Age Dread Wolf game has me worried a lot. why are they so dark on this? how come we know little to nothing after all this time? no pics, no character shots, no videos of in game footage. I think the fate of Mass Effect all hangs on Dread Wolf. If it fails, Bioware is done.
It doesn't matter that they put emphasis on the queer or bi thing. What matters is them calling this a milestone despite these same companies and journalists saying the same thing about other games and media in the past. Like calling Captain Marvel, I mean Batwoman, I mean She Hulk, I mean Barbie being the first movie or show to represent women. I really hope rocksteady doesn’t go out of business I mean killed the justice league is a bad game, but rocksteady is such a creative studio. It doesn’t deserve to go out of business.
It’s very unlikely the same people who actually made those games we love are still at Rocksteady. Sefton Hill for example who directed all three Arkham games left in 2022 and it shows
That's unfortunately how modern age is. The younger the generation, the more stupid they get. People don't give a damn about creativity nowadays, they only care about arrogance, having more upvotes and likes on comments, and teaming up against development studios with nothing but disrespect and expecting good back to them in return. The people who made the Batman trilogy, all left around 2 to 3 years ago, so it's filled with nothing but people who are Woke Communications and LGBTQ+ enforcers.
Truly a year of activism turn on each other. Great thing too for gamers because again it shows we, the customer, are finally taking effect of our wallets supporting real games. I do think that live service games can work. The problem is that a lot of them are done wrong in an anti-consumer way. Everybody looked at Destiny as a console MMO and ignored the fact that Destiny literally is an MMO. Not many MMO games are successful (nobody wants to spend their time in multiple fomo games; when I played Destiny and Warframe, bouncing between two games was a pain in the ass; you expect people to deal with 5+ games?), but the ones that seem to be the most popular have many different things to do to occupy your time, and not always about rushing players to get "chores" done. I think one of the most important things is to have a variety of content that other games proved gamers enjoy. I don't remember everything (quit Destiny 4 years ago), but story missions, strike missions (bigger missions), raids (epic missions with larger groups), open worlds with a variety of tasks, and [personally optional, as I don't play PVP games much] multiplayer (with many different modes and co-op missions). As a "gameplay > story" guy, I still understand that RPGs are about story and having gameplay work around it. You can't play a role if there's no story to work through with that role... I guess. Then you have Warframe. Planets represent regions with a variety of specific missions where there's different versions depending on the region. A spy mission on Mars isn't the same as a spy misson on Jupiter, let alone a spy mission on Venus having a different enemy faction and mapping from a spy mission in the Void. Spy, Assassination, Sabotage, Extermination, Survival, other game modes, all have different versions depending on the region. This gives players something to do with variety. Different regions = different bosses, and sometimes specific mission types. Another thing is that with IPs like Marvel and DC, playing as a specific character doesn't seem to work compared to making your own and designing how your own character works. DC Universe Online was popular for some time and it made sense. Yet, people hate the idea of using guns in SSKTJL as it takes away from the characters' trademark personalities. Imagine if Amanda Waller had a Task Force X with different "villains" that the players can create for their own. I think that would make more sense. Guns, melee, powers, etc., kinda like a villain version of DCUO. Granted, making the Suicide Squad fight the Justice League was a controversial idea for DC fans to begin with, and they thus killed off their Arkham universe with it. Like saying "Sorry, no more Arkham games. This is proof. Now, on to the next, on-on to the next one."
Good evening, Endymion I really enjoyed reading your post and I agree with what you had to say. I bought Suicide Squad thinking because Rocksteady made it that it would be the same quality as the Batman games. Boy was I wrong, I also didn't know it was going to be a live service game, which I hate. I really enjoyed the BG3 game as it was a very well righten game with a full rich story which is something I enjoy. I hope the new Mass Effect game will be good, but I too am not very hopeful. Anyhow I just wanted to say great post. Thank you, William
Endymion please, normalize your audio! Loving the video hearing what you have to say, and suddenly the clips of the other videos blast my ears off! It's like watching a Blu-ray movie
As stated in one of your previous videos, not a single person who worked on the Arkham games worked on Suicide Squad. This isn't the product of Rocksteady. Rocksteady died many years ago. This is Rebootsteady.
James Ohlen also wrote a DnD 3rd party module called Odyssey of the Dragonlords. It is a level 1-20 adventure module for DnD and it is the best module for 5e, hands down. It is the only DnD module I have run from start to finish and the only campaign that I not only finished, but finished with all the same players from start to finish. I highly recommend it to any DnD GMs out there.
I'm literally reinstalling Mass Effect Legendary Edition right now. The only new game that I care to play right now is Baldur's Gate 3 and I need a break from playing it every time I get some free time. I forgot, I do have Spider-Man and Miles Morales but I haven't been able to really get into them yet.
Wow, Suicide Squad has gotten more hatred than Bud Light in a year. Then again, this is what happens when you don't make a good game and put agendas instead. Lastly, the woke will never support such "inclusive" games and comics with their money. Never!
Well maybe for IGN,Batman is a type that never kills regardless how psychotic criminals were like the Joker, he's a role model what Cops should be to deal with bad guys especially if he's dealing with a Person of colour
Oh Mass Effect has been one of my top games/IPs for along time but I have no faith in the new game. If andromeda wasnt enough of a sign I dont know what will be. As someone who played mostly on the renegade side Andromeda felt so neutered ,went from a group of tough mercenaries in the OT to driving a bus of highschool kids around pretty much. I hope its much better than I expect but the bioware that made the OT is long long gone
Agree. Bioware has been moving away from their original formula for years. This showed in DA2 when they went more action focused and did away with creating your own charcter with a backstory origin. They brought back a little of it in DAI but not enough to not make the Inquistior one of the most bland protagonists I've ever played. They also locked progression behind godawful timed war table missions and the gaining of influence. The majority of side quests in that game were boring fetch quests compared to the side quests in DAO that actually tied into the main story. I've read now they plan on making DA4 even more action-based like GoW. At this point, Bioware is just chasing trends and just about all of the writers and devs that created DAO and ME are gone. Maybe the success of BG3 will lead them to chase the trend that they started themselves and were actually good at but at this point Dreadwolf is pretty much completed so I'm not hopeful.
Holy smokes, I didn't think that Minsc & Boo's origins came from a game session of DND! I enjoyed playing with them in Baldur's Gate 3 and hell I even have a deck in MTG with Minsc and Boo as a Commander! This is cool video, Endymion!
"Suicide Squad should never existed". No. It had to be made to become another lesson like Anthem. People won't learn without failing. Maybe a few employees will take the lesson and start making fun games.
Did I understand that right - you can get the Stone Lord in bg3 to join your party ? I guess you have to side with him rather than with the Guild ? Well something to look forward to on my next play through.
I wholeheartedly agree with him that games, as well as movies when we're at it, should be shorter, smaller and, might I add, more focused. I'm at this point when I hear the main campain is 50 hours plus or I see a huge map riddled with questionmarks, I'm out. Even when that game might seem interesting that's a clear red flag for me. Give me a 6 to 10 hours main game with replay value and at best a mission select screen, so I can enjoy the story and go through it again if I want to or to the parts I want to. This way I have spent over hundreds of hours in games that have short campains but rarely finish the longer games. The short games often have the better and deeper mechanics. Just look at Devil May Cry 5, you need and want to spend more time playing as Dante and Nero because the characters, especially Dante, have unrivaled mechanical depth but you don't need to if you just want to enjoy the story. Another thing where a mission select and a short story is good for, I leave so many unfinished right before the last boss, because there's always last sidemission or something to collect left at the end which is gone as soon as you defeat the boss. My PS4 hard drive died and so lots of game I finished up to a high percentage. With a shorter story mode or a simple mission select this would not be a problem.
I don't see WB paying another 4-7 years of payroll to Rocksteady for another gamble. Rocksteady will be dismantled and shut down in the next two years. As they should be, we don't want the games they make now. They literally no longer have a customer base, or even a target audience.
I wasn’t celebrate yet. It’s clear as day, IGN is just taking advantage of an easy target. Suicide Squad threw fans over the bus and therefore it’s a failure. It’s not like IGN will call out the text of Luther praising Wobder Woman.
As a massive fan of Arkham series and someone who worked with Rocksteady (Due to NDAs cant say how or what parts) I can guarantee you that old Rocksteady will never be back, as their whole focus has become to gather awards for most diverse Game Development company instead of going for Game of the year awards and making amazing games as they used to. It is really sad.
Dragon Age has really never lived up to the promise of the amazing Origins. Combination of woke garbage and ignoring the type of games the fans wanted. It’s finished with this one - hopefully someone competent buys the IP.

If it wasnt for Nintendo, i would predict another video game crash.
Them and most Asian developers in general. Looking forward to Stellar Blade!
Nintendo & Sony are at least still making high quality games. Microsoft on the other hand lmao

They even hid deep customization options so you can't actually make a masculine male or feminine female. But they sure as hell made sure to include vitiligo options.

Arkham knight is really a masterpiece
Well something to look forward to on my next play through.
wait, didn't Constantine have a relationship with Shark?
Larian should be fixing bugs in BG3 instead of lip service about other games.
And then we have Forbes, shilling for a bad game by blaming those darn right-wingers for calling it "woke."
I don't see WB paying another 4-7 years of payroll to Rocksteady for another gamble. Rocksteady will be dismantled and shut down in the next two years. As they should be, we don't want the games they make now. They literally no longer have a customer base, or even a target audience.
sure they do, they have the non-haters, millions of them.
I wasn’t celebrate yet. It’s clear as day, IGN is just taking advantage of an easy target.
Suicide Squad threw fans over the bus and therefore it’s a failure. It’s not like IGN will call out the text of Luther praising Wobder Woman.
News flash for people, Baldur's gate 3 is extremely woke...
Honestly, like 99% of the time I hear the words "woke" or "PC" or anything about "PC/woke culture" it's from somebody who's complaining about it.
King Shark and Harley are not gay. Harley is literally created to be The Jokers's fangirl.
But Rocksteady is definitely gay.
I think the downfall of BioWare started when it was bought by EA and the rest is history from there.
without Sefton Hill and Jamie Walker and WB interference... yea Rocksteady is done.
Mass effect 3 is my favorite game of all time, with 2 close behind.
Dragon Age has really never lived up to the promise of the amazing Origins. Combination of woke garbage and ignoring the type of games the fans wanted. It’s finished with this one - hopefully someone competent buys the IP.
