No one on earth could out perform this man. His passion could not be topped !!!! He is sadly missed. Thanks for your kind words of this great legend !!!!!
DodgedABullet : I am a big fan of JJ but no , she didn’t out perform Joe. He would even put all his passion in a recording session by himself in a booth.
"This crowd got more than their money's worth"... Joe was one of 32 acts that played at Woodstock 1969, tickets for the 3-day event were $18 in advance, $24 at the gate. They sold 186,000 advanced tickets and told local police the event would have 50,000 people - max. Day of the concert, people without tickets just walked through the gaps in the fencing. 400,000+ people total. There were schedule problems caused by rainstorms and Hendrix played at 9:00 Monday morning instead of Sunday night. I agree, that's more than $18 worth of music.
@Ricky Spanish - heh. Ok, adjusted for inflation that's almost $4 per band. True, minimum wage has not kept up with inflation. Maybe we should have listened to Joe. The global corporations that lobby to suppress wages are not "our friends", they are not even human people. I think Joe is talking about people helping people, not relying on the favors of governments and corporations. Bunch of damn hippie crap :)
I have a stub from Stanley Cup finals '74-'75, right behind the home bench, $6. I used to pay 35 cents a gal. for gas back then. What's your point again?
This was at Woodstock, it was magic energy and they all just let it go . See if you can find a song with Joe Cocker singing and Leon Russel on piano. Amazing combo.
Joe Cocker was one of those rare singers that could touch every part of your soul, and make you feel every note, and take you on a journey that you never know existed!!! His natural movements were his way to express the emotions of the song, and if you react to any other of his masterpieces, you will see just how amazing and authentic he was ❤️ RIP Great one !!! I would recommend the song, You are so beautiful, & Up where we belong, you won't be disappointed 😆
I was born in 1960. I don't think anyone born after 1980 can really appreciate the turmoil of the 60s without experiencing musicians like Joe Cocker or CCR or Crosby Stills and Nash.
This is by far my favorite Joe Cocker version of this song, he puts his whole body into it. That is what makes him so great. Every song he sings he throws his whole being into it.
Very rare to see somebody own a Beatles song, but Joe completely owned this. Even the Beatles didn't argue with that. One of the most uplifting songs of all time.
We were all high until 1973 and troops were coming home. I don't know if todays generations can really relate to the angst of 60 & 70's rock. Was a beautiful time, that's why the music is slamming. Peace.
I totally agree....our rock music was the best...we witnessed the rise of many young stars...i think we were blessed to be born when we were..we grew up with real music, stories being told by great musicians and philosophers!!
@@carolinagallegos3926 We were free of todays social media. THAT is what you call 'leaving it all on stage'. fantastic ! according the Michael Lang (the main guy who put the festival together), when they were recruiting bands for the festival, someone gave him a tape of Joe Cocker. They had no idea who he was, but they really liked it and signed him on to do the show....they were shocked when Joe showed up because they thought he was an old black dude based on the tape. Joe did some AMAZING covers in his time....lots to check out. Feelin' alright, Delta Lady, the letter, also....there's video music of the 'mad dogs and englishmen' tour out there...that was INSANE
Joe Cocker was born for live music. Imagine an artist as great as Leon Russell hearing Joe Cocker sing and saying to himself that he needed to collaborate with this man. Joe Cocker wasn’t booked for Woodstock. He just happen to be touring in the US at the time and he just flew in, did a handful of songs and flew right back out to his tour without missing a beat. He did this performance on his day off travel day with none of his people or equipment. They just threw it all together in hast and the rest is music genius history.
In case you didn't notice the accent, Joe is an Englishman from Great Britain. So much soul in his voice and performances. Only one Joe Cocker. Now with the Lord.
i remember the first time i saw this version, my girlfriend at the time and myself were left open mouthed in awe at the way he completely lets go and just lets it pore out from the bottom of his soul, it still blows me away every time i watch this performance which is by far the best version of this song, its absolutely amazing and he will live on in peoples hearts foerever. R.I.P Joe
Joe always made lots of interesting gestures during his performances. Some people called it spastic. Many of us understand he was actually conducting every one of the bands' instruments.
In one of his concerts in the late 80s he said he saw himself performing and was so surprised at what he looked like he stopped performing for years. He was not so demonstrative in his later concerts lol
If you like Joe Cocker you should react t Delta Lady by him I really loved that one also. Joe was one of the greats of his time!!! That's" Mad Dog Joe Cocker"!
I was 16 when this was filmed and can remember this playing on the radio. We were used to the Beatles songs but this blew my brothers and I away. Mum once she heard it understood our reactions and agreed the energy he put into it was amazing. I never got to a concert but it didn't matter in a home where music was playing in many of the rooms (I am the 2nd child of 8). We all like different types of music but can enjoy most music especially from the 80's and below that, when singers could sing and musicians could play without someone messing about making everyone sound a lot better than they are. I shall be gradually going through your videos and finding other singers and groups I have forgotten thank you. Take care and stay safe please Mary-Ellen UK
So good!!! I have always loved Joe Cocker. He was universally lived by the top acts of his day. He was led astray with drugs and alcohol when he first started. There was no support group to help him in the beginning. He faded into obscurity for a while, but then overcame the problems and had a very successful career later in his life.
Went to Erie Pa.in 1976 to see Joe. His live shows were raw energy. He sang everything with the energy and stage presence you just witnessed. I hope he's not resting in peace. I hope he's somewhere else still putting his passion, soul and all out energy into everything he sings.
A lot of people have covered this song. One of the best I've heard is from a guy named Danyl Johnson, who was on X-factor UK a few yrs ago. It's his audition video & I think you'd like it. Verrry entertaining! Enjoyed this reaction!! Thx!
"This man's feelin' it". "This man's in his own world". You got to remember WHERE and WHEN this was recorded. Woodstock, '69. There was about a quarter of a million people in the audience. That's something special. If that don't bring out your best performance, nothing will.
I loved him when I was a teenager in the early 70s and still do! Thank you for showing him to people who might not know him. He was always that good on stage!
Woohoo. Loving your reactions. Love love love the music of the 60s and 70s and even early 80s. You could listen to the radio, hear country, folk, gospel, rock and pop all on the same station.. haha and it was all good music.
