My guess for the Splatoon face is it actually was just a trick of the light in Splatoon 1, but the devs were aware people saw it as a ghost face and snuck it in as a joke for 3.

@@ickflip Not quite. He did say that it might have been a trick of the light, but he never made the connection that a misinterpretation from fans might have caused the face to be real in 3, instead connecting it to a face in a different game which I personally think was purely coincidental.
I'd buy it, but the fact that this exact easter egg appeared in a different game way before splatoon 1 makes me less sure. Wonder if it'd be easier to confirm if you can emulate splatoon 1
I think the fact that the Homefront one is unfinished makes it even creepier. A serial killer that you can't catch and never discover his true motives like the Zodiac or Jack the Ripper is fascinating.
Brings into mind the Calendar Man from the Batman: Arkham games. Also, a certain character from Wolfenstein: The New Order.

Seen people saying that the eyeball in Enter the Gungeon is a hole. As the person who suggested this to Odd, I feel the need to point out that you can see a drop shadow beneath the eye that shows it to be an above-ground object. Additionally, (for what it's worth) the code of the Teleporter Prototype contains a variable which determines the likelihood of being taken to the eyeball room, which is called 'ChanceToGoToEyeballRoom'.

It could be a well. So it's a hole with walls around it. The shading definitely makes it look more like a hole than an eyeball following you around. The variable name does seem 'odd' though, but could just be that the devs themselves thought it looked like an eyeball as well and just named it that themselves.

And it's an old photo of Rio de Janeiro with the statue "Christ the Redeemer" removed from it. It's no coincidence that it's in brazilian portuguese

The name "Manbat" and the design are obviously references to Kirk Langstrom, aka Man-Bat, from the Batman franchise. Not sure if this was just a cute little shout-out or if the devs were actually trying to court DC Comics for a licensing deal.

The BipBop one reminded me of another dos shareware game called Helious, which the publisher claimed was actually developed by aliens who abducted him and put it on his computer. Shareware discs are full of weird and spooky things.

I remember playing Teocida and somehow getting into the secret apartment level, all you did was click on either side of the screen to progress to a different section of the apartment, it was either completely quiet or had a low buzz, I think there was a picture of a map on one of the walls that had red dots on it at some point it just ended and put me back into the game
do you know how you triggered it to appear? since then that could open up into the second part of what i assume is a long list of secret areas

I also got to the screen that looks like a school with backwards text on the bottom, I have a screenshot of that one but I believe I deleted the screenshots of the apartment section because I believed at the time that all players got to it
I definitely remember this as well. It was like a stream of someone's house where you could flip through several cameras in different rooms. I might be misremembering this part, but I could've sworn one of the rooms had a VERY shadowy figure standing in a shaded doorway.
I also definitely saw some of those images near the end of the video, that much I remember clearly. They're images that randomly flash on the screen for a single frame, and I'd periodically look over them with a Shadowplay recording when they happened so I can screenshot them. The one with the old man happened most often, but got the mirrored message one a few times too. Remember that one clearly because I flipped it and had a friend that speaks Portuguese on Discord translate it for me.
Just beaten Teocida and can say that the apartment level is scripted to appear in Level 6 (I think). Near the end of the level the game crashes and you suddenly appear in the dark apartment. You have to walk to the window for the game to boot up back
@@yaogwaiThe backwards Portuguese, a burning school pictures and a "Livestream" of some sort of a moving flesh mass can be accessed via the computer on the right of the main PC. To unlock access to it you have to beat the game twice, first on the easy and then on hard modes, which opens a way to a set of rooms with clocks that tell you the password you need in order to open it
With the Butterfly serial killer in the game talking about preparing humanity for the coming dangers, I'm thinking he was trying to force people to switch from their caterpillar form to a butterfly form, metaphorically.

The Enter the Gungeon "eyeball" looks more like some sort of well. You can tell because when the character moves close to it, the "pupil" moves closer to the center, suggesting it is more of a large pit with a perspective effect.
I think you hit the nail on the head with that. I saw an eyeball at first, but now that I’m thinking of it as a well I can’t unsee it.
I think it's an eyeball. Look at the shadows underneath it.
It's an eye, and if oddheader did any additional research, he likely would have found the answer. It's inferred that the eye belongs to Kaliber/Kthuliber, an eldritch diety which has some sort of connection and influence on the Gungeon.
Reminds of the giant eye that can randomly appear in Sunless Sea. It isn't in every map, but usually appears to the south. If you have the zubmarine you can dive into the pupil and read a strange encounter that will likely send you zee captain mad.
Given the game, I always assumed it was a barrel, IE, the loaded barrel of a gun, and you are looking at the back of the bullet. I mean, the whole game is about trying to get to the gun that can erase the past, which is a U shaped gun you're supposed to shoot yourself in the head with, so seeing the back of a bullet loaded into a chamber would be entirely fitting, yeah?
I love how any time based event is always "set the system clock to 2am" and not "play the game at 2am". Gamer effeciency!
I appreciate how you always give a brief explanation of the game being shown, despite how popular it may be. I often miss references to larger games, but I still get a kick out of these mysteries!
i think its also important to note that the yellow chamber is easily one of the strongest ( if not THE strongest ) passive item in gungeon. its almost easy mode compared to how hard the game normally is. I wanna go ahead and say that the eye belongs to the god Kaliber prolly

8:30 Bip Boooop! I fell down that rabbit hole when Ross Scott covered the whole series on his Game Dungeon episode! Anyone whose willing to take a deep dive into an esoteric 90's game should check out his Game Dungeon series, each episode is a trip!
Don’t forget, he’s the reason we even have a game downloadable today! Thanks to him contacting the developer on it and grabbing disks containing the games from him. Guess even Ross didn’t get an explanation on the joke about ham and swiss on rye lol.
I'd reccoment keeping that one for later (as its both super bizarre and a long 3-part video), but his 'armed and delirious'/'granny' video is fantastic. That and and my brother calling that game "probably what hell looks like" is engraved in my mind.
The Tokyo extreme racer one reminds me of a scene in a movie called Jacob's Ladder a car drives by and there are ghost faces just staring at him. Spoilers for the movie, but the whole movie is just a fever dream the character is having in a military camp while he is dying from an injury until he eventually succumbs to the wounds. Freaky stuff

7:39 its probably Man Bat (Kirk Langstrom) from Batman. The developers could have been working on a Batman videogame at some point and the asset somehow ended up in the files for this game for whatever reason.

For the Teocida one I actually know where a few of those images are in game due to seeing everything back when it first came out:
The room images are part of a very short point and click segment at the end of one of the levels. (Currently forget due to not playing this game since we figured out the final door puzzle.)
And the image of the old man will randomly flash in the hub after a specific event. (Again, not sure which event but I know that it does flash.)
The icon of dominance and the reversed text image are the only ones I can't quite remember, but I think they were in the "dev room".
Not sure about the twin headed skeleton, but I'm sure that someone else will know.

@@gringottssteakhouse5893 Not entirely sure what you're asking, but at around 12:09 there are some images that are photos of rooms. At the end of a level there's just a small section where you have to use your mouse to get to the room with the glitch effect. It comes out of nowhere like a few other moments, but anyone who beat the game would know about it.
did NOT expect Star Stable to be mentioned! Star Stable Online also has some creepy stuff but they're right in the open like the "fridge doors" that sound creepier the longer you stay by them and the horse sacrifice to the equivalent of Satan you can sometimes come across on the Haunted Trail Ride

What the fuck are horse girl game designers on? Given how niche of a genre that is, I wouldn't even doubt that there's 1 dev or a group of devs that work on multiple horse games who have a running gag of sneaking in dark/disturbing jokes into each game (or at least try, in the case of Manbat).
@@bugjamson the surface it’s a fluffy horse game, but it actually has some pretty cool fantasy lore that gets dark in spots.
The death car one probably crashed into a van with children, killing them and himself.
Considering that the vans change from yellow to white, this does make sense seeing as pure white is typically used for memorial purposes in many cultures.

2:36 every window has a horizontal bar going through them, it's likely something is hanging from the bar in that window which makes the bar look like it's split thus giving it the appearance of eyes while the rest is just a tan wall lit up by some light inside of the room

i’m so happy to see star stable getting some recognition. even if it is about spoopy things. i started playing that game in 2014 when it first came to american servers. and i still play it to this day, it’s an amazing game even if many people don’t know much about it and it holds a very special place in my heart and always will. i’m so glad to see someone around my age finally covering it, this is awesome!
The autumn riders is the original offline game. I've never touched Starstable Online but played through Starshine Legacy and Starstable games as a kid. Loved them! And they have their creepy parts, especially in Starshine Legacy
Been playing since 2013 and played the Starshine games before that. I have all the og Star Stable games with the exception of The Autumn Riders. There’s something so special about that world, even with all the changes that have been made
8:15 Manbat is literally a Batman character and he looks very similar to this. He has appeared in an Arkham game and jumpscares you, I think Arkham Knight. Check it out.

In the short in question, the judge yells, "Order in the court!" like he would, and Curly follows up with, "Ham and Swiss on rye!" Again though, REALLY long stretch considering Bip Bop seems to hint elsewhere. Also, love the recreation of the infamous Crash video with the skelly model! Really nice touch!
Hi, Oddhead! In 12:08 you showcase some "strange unknown locations" images within the Teocida game. Well, they are not so unknown, if you are brazilian. The top left one seems to be the front of a Universal church, a neo petencostal evangelical church that was founded in Brazil. "All icons of dominance must burn" fits the message in portuguese on the subsequent image - a view from the city of Rio de Janeiro.
It translates to something like this:

I believe the man bat could be a reference to the villian from dc comics man bat. My guess is maybe there was suppose to be an easter egg to summon him but was cut last minute die to man bat being creepy and messed up in the comics for DC.
About the Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3’s children ghosts that appear in vehicles after having the Death’s Car is maybe a reference of a real haunted tunnel who is not to far away from Toyota City called the Isegami’s Tunnel - actually there’s two Isegami’s Tunnel, a new one and an old one and they are both haunted mainly the old tunnel - where from legends or real local stories that says that two children have been killed during a massive tsunami in the region around this tunnel and now the two ghosts of the two child haunted the old Isegami’s Tunnel and I know very well this haunted tunnel because it has been used has a part of a rally stage of the 2022 WRC Rally Japan. That’s my opinion about this haunted mystery and discovery but I could be wrong as well so if anyone think it’s from the Isegami’s haunted tunnel or completely something else let me now and feel free to respond to this comment.

The Death Racer part was my fave of all of em in this vid. I can only imagine how spooky it would be for him to appear out of nowhere when playing this back in the day, not knowing exactly how to trigger him.
I know there is a similar driver in Import Tuner Challenge, which is basically these games for the next gen (I wish there were more of them for systems after the ps2).
The Wanderer's just showing up out of nowhere to challenge you after having already sunk so many hours into the game was always something that was very eery yet cool AF when I was a kid playing Tokyo Extreme Racer Zero.
Makes me wanna get my ps2 and buy all of the series to play through again (only had Zero). Truly a super cool and unique style of rpg in racing game form.
Definitely encouraged my love for cars and racing games growing up and was a big part in that flourishing. That game and Gran Turismo; I still haven't been able to play any of those past 4, and I bought my.ps2 solely to play 3. I got the bundle with the game when I bought it with my birthday money saved for years, and while gt3 was super awesome and fun when I first got it, i didn't have a memory card so I just had to start over every time or leave the ps2 on.
Good times.
That, and racing the Sunday cup a zillion times (it felt like) just to save up for a decent car (since back then none of us kids in the U.S. realized the car you won from the full cup is a legend (ae86). I'm sure I wasn't the only one that was like, wtf is this slow arsed beater with Japanese on the side. If we had only known then...

I think your right on that happening but also the death racer car feels like a true story based on a real race car that accidentally killed a car with a family in it and the family haunts the tunnel. That’s my opinion/theory on the mystery
Stories of haunted tunnels and ghosts appearing in and around cars can be found all over Japan. Some speculate that this is because tunnels connect one world to another, but personally I think it's because tunnels are inherently creepy at night.

Star Stables Online continues the trend of weird ass happenings.
Throughout the map there are these bunker hatches that glow with a bright light and give off a loud humming noise, each one has a different symbol on them. No idea if anyone has figured it out yet.
I’ve noticed they’ve been mentioning them more frequently in quest dialogue. I’m hoping that we’ll eventually get a little more info on them.
the fact a star stable game showed up in an oddheader video left me beyond surprised. the lore is already weird and all over the place, so for something like that to even show up in the files isnt too surprising but my god what did they have planned for that game 💀

The whole Manbat thing in that horsegirls game might be a reference to a lesser known Batman villain of the same name that was a man turned into a beastly bat mutant whose head would definitely fit that of a bat rather than that of a man. I'd suggest looking more into him to see if we've found our mystery monster in this horse ranch, because this seems to be our guy.
I also thought about it, it's also not that hard to find things about it either, he is one of the optional bosses in Batman Arkham Knight.

Hello, Oddheader, since you know a lot about video games, I thought I’d give it a shot. As a kid, I played this game on PS2, it has a Rachet and Clank vibe, all I remember is a green field with trees and large aliens that look like elephants walking around, all in a different plant, this scene is also similar to a certain stage in the original Rachet and Clank…the description isn’t much, but I hope it rings a bell, you’d be a hero to me.
The whole bit on BipBop made me say: "Just 90's things, what's so weird?"

Never thought I’d see Tokyo xtreme racer 3 on here! One of my favorite games ever. I’ve known about the death driver ghost car traffic forever, but I can confirm it was a bit scary as a 10 year old seeing it for the first time lol
I can only dream of having that experience, cause some of the Wanderer's and their listings/info about them before you discover them just churned this crazy cauldron of wonder and mystique in the pit of my soul. And them just appearing seemingly almost out of thin air/from the nether of the midnight Tokyo highways was just so dang cool.
I was so excited to see that on this list cause I personally didn't have 3, just Zero, and I had no idea of the Death Racer either (although I think there is a similar counterpart/version on TER Zero. Even a similar wanderer on Import Tuner Challenge as well, I believe. ITC was awesome too, I just wish the customization and cars in general were as plentiful as they were in the TER series. Do you or does anybody else know of any more games of that same style/premise? Cause Import Tuner Challenge was basically TER for the next generation, as far as I know/can tell, and I only know of one Import Tuner Challenge game. Maybe there were some more in Japan? Sure would love to play those some more. Such a unique series and racing game style with it's rpg style elements
@@tylerevans1700 there is a spin off from the same developer set on mountain roads- Tokyo xtreme racer drift (Kaido Batlle in Japan). There are three total. Only the first and third entry were sold in the US

Enter the Gungeon is one of those games where you can't help but wonder if there is still a secret to find despite its age and how many people likely looked everywhere you could imagine.
Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3 is actually the 4th installment. It goes 1, 2, 0, and then 3. The whole TXR franchise is an absolute delight to play including Import Tuner Challenge on Xbox 360 which is just a renamed TXR game. The gba game is fun too. The TXR drift games are also amazing.
In Splatoon 3 you can find a jelly out of bounds (on the roof of a building) painting something. You can only see it by using glitches involving the zipcaster special in Inkblot Art Academy. Not sure if it was one of your videos I saw this on, it might be, but I can't remember

Been watching your videos for almost 5 years dude!! I absolutely love the concept and creation of each video. Very clever how you cover every genre of game. It’s like memory lane for me watching forgotten games i played as a kid. I have played over 1000 games in my life time. Most of them from my childhood, Just goes to think how many Easter eggs and hidden secrets I must of stumbled across unknowingly in a time when social media wasn’t a thing. Thanks for getting this out on Halloween! Enter the gungeon is the only one I actually have experienced… The eye is certainly unnerving the first time you encounter it but you kind of want to get to that room for the Yellow chamber… Another thing to note about is the yellow chamber item itself is the eye in disguise. Pull the map up and wait a bit… the chamber will fall away revealing the eye in your inventory :3 A bonus creep out for you!
This is sudden, but... I feel like the thing I most like about this channel is the mood. The music choice is so peculiar yet it feels so good!! And also... Calm? Even though the videos are about mystery and horror in games.

The horse riding game was probably meant to include the character ManBat from Batman. If we compare the 3d modeled head and textures to those of the actual ManBat, they’re almost identical.
Dont know if you'll see this but there is a creepy easter egg in the game Theif Simulator 2 if you go to the park theres a ghost boy sitting on the horse teeter totter the music changes and everything he'll dissappear if you get to close tho

For Star Stable, Hidden Entertainment went under in 2008 right around when Star Stable came out. They were working on 2 games that texture could have been meant for; a ghost-themed game called Gloom or a rat-themed crime scene investigation game called LabRatz.
For those curious, Ross Scott (on his channel Accursed Farms) has a video going through the Bip Bop trilogy in great detail.

Woah, Tokyo Xtreme Racer is such a blast from the past. One of the first games I've ever played, I remember playing it with my brother on our Dreamcast all day. Nice to see it being featured here in my favorite RUclips Channel

For "Star Stable: The Autumn Riders". It is a leftover asset from a PS2 game called "Nosferatu", as evident by the "C:\HD BACKUP\ZYX_ServerBackup\Nosferatu_PS2\Studio\Media\Characters\ManBatNew\ManBat_Body.tgap" string in the data.
I never looked at star stable before, so I haven't a clue about it's formats, but I will keep digging if people are interested and post updates if I find anything.
EDIT: Mesh isn't included, only textures, no references to ManBat anywhere aside from being included. Probably left over asset.
Star stable formats (mesh and textures) can be extracted using Star Stable extractor on the XeNTaX forums, which is how I I found it. Curiously though, it doesn’t seem to be from the same company that made the Star stable assets (Anton Jarl, Hidden entertainment, Pixel tales) and I don’t think the companies’ previous names included it either, interestingly.
Found a connection. Thank you. Turns out in January of 2003 Hidden dinosaur AB (Hidden entertainment) bought out Idol FX. I assume it must be a leftover asset, which is curious, as it was made in a completely separate engine than Hidden Dinosaur used to help make Star Stable.

At 12:08, the image right next to the inverted portuguese text is a clear reference to a protestant brazilian church called "Igreja Universal do Reino de Deus."
Someone developing that game is brazilian, and have some very strong opinions to share.
The closest I found is this image, which seems to be a strong candidate to "source" or "inspiration" for the ilustration found on game. Maybe there is a exact one, but I can't seem to find any with two pillars on the center of the construction. The windows match, however:

My theory on the ‘Tokyo extreme racer 3’ Easter egg is that the ghosts in the white van and the ghosts of people that the death driver killed, so they are coming back to haunt them.

@@NetBattler Import Tuner Challenge on Xbox 360 is very very similar. Not more current gens I know, but just in case you were unaware, it's killer. Less car choices, but the gameplay mechanics are exactly the same, even have some almost identical of the racing teams/gangs.
I wonder if Tokyo Extreme Racer looked better on Dreamcast than ps2. That being said, import Tuner Challenge does look absolutely fantastic on the 360, imo
