Just got a DSi a day before you posted. It's awesome, and I love it. There are so many games and TWilight menu lets you play GBA, NES, and GB almost flawlessly.
I have the red Mario Special Edition DSi XL and it's one of my favorite handhelds. The screens are large and look amazing, it has amazing battery life, and it's still the best way to play DS games. This is due to the screen resolution matching the resolution DS games run in, whereas playing them on a 3DS will either stretch or compress the pixels due to the higher resolution of the 3DS screens. My only wish is that I could fast forward when playing Gen 4 Pokemon games since they're notoriously slow. I hate emulating DS games, so this is a small concession to make when playing on original hardware.
This is super true, and why I really enjoy rom hacks that add this feature into the games. I gotta look into a DSi XL, its the only DS I need so I can complete my collection.
I have bought a Switch OLED for my daughter and wife (Little Kitty in Big City as the major game for daughter). I really like the combination of handheld and docked in concept. Around 2010 I have had a time period where I have nearly pounced on a DS Lite, but never have made the dream happen. Now I have watched a ton of 3DS XL (new) videos and got attracted again. And then all of a sudden I understand that I could get nearly the same game experience for the fraction of price. 3DS XL IPS prices are over the roof right now.....
That must havee been a good feeling! Growing up all my consoles were pre owned the first "new" console I ever got was my OG 3DS; and thats cause I bought it lol.
i love to play games on DSi, but lately i install a small app and made DSi in to a E-book....i put a tone of EPUB books and now is my small e-book to read anywhere anytime...and battery is lasting for so many many hours
i like the ds lite over the dsi because even though there are things like the camera on the dsi, the ds lite can play both the gba games and ds games meaning you would not have to buy a gba when you have the ds lite to play the gba games
I like my dsi as well, but I find it to be a little too small for me sometimes. The alternative of modding my dsi and downloading all my gba games has been a blast!
I had the DS Lite and it was fragile. I had the DSI and it was pretty durable. I had the original 3DS and it was pretty fragile, however I had the 3DS XL and New 3DS XL and they were both far more durable than the 3DS I had. I sold my New 3DS XL back in May, but I will probably purchase a new one. I can afford one. I’m also going to probably pick up a DSI as well as it was one of the best devices Nintendo has made.
You forgot to mention that you can share your games between them And play together I have to dsi and one lite and we played Mario kart on our way to vacation it is super fun 🎉 anyways great video keep it up🤘😎
i got a DSi second hand this year and i loved it so much that i got a DSi Xl,the good thing of having both modded is that you can change SD cards freely if you want to continue a game on the other DSi, also the 3DS its good to have all in 1 place but Ds game look way better on the ips DSi Xl screens ngl
YES THIS! I think the main reason I got a DSi was to play DS pokemon games natively in the smaller screen with no black borders. Honestly I didnt know I could change the SD cards freely thats pretty huge.

I actually quite like the DSi, I had a super crazy modded up black one and used it all the time😂 But you know what's funny? As time goes by, I've started to actually appreciate the DS Lite more, maybe it's just a nostalgia thing because the first DS I EVER had was a red and black DS Lite, but I also kinda prefer how the buttons feel on it over the DSi. In my personal opinion, the DS Lite is what I use to play DS games and GBA games, and the DSi is what I use for messing around with emulation and mods. I think the DS Lite, DSi and 3DS all still definitely have a place in this day in age.
I have a modded 3DS XL and a DSi XL, and what I will say is that playing regular DS games is far superior on a DSi. The 3DS is great but for DS games the resolution is scaled back a bit and doesn't look quite as nice unless you hold start+select, which then shrinks the picture to it's og resolution. But with the DSi XL you get the og resolution on the bigger form facter so it's my go-to whenever I'm playing a normal DS game

Originally, I thought the DSi would be redundant, as I have a New 3ds XL and a DS Lite, but after buying a white DSi for $5 at a yard sale, I definitely see its versatility as a home brew beast. I dumped my DS games onto an SD card, and borrowed games from my friends to dump their games onto my system. (Don’t worry, their games are perfectly fine.)
I thought the same thing until I started modding my dsi, now I just download all my gba games. But if someone is afraid/doesnt want to do that I totally agree if gba is a deal breaker get the Lite.
Honestly cant hate on that, unfortunately for me they started hurting my hands after a few hours of play. I don't think its size, since my switch lite does the same thing to me. That being said, I never have an issue with the DSi or my New 3DS.
You're the first person I've heard say the 3DS had "amazing battery life". When it was released, the single biggest critique was that it was literally half the battery life of the DSi, lmao. And that's not to mention the DS Lite had even BETTER battery life than the DSi.
First of all AWESOME profile pic. And thats a great point, tbh Im def looking at it through a 2024 lens where my steam deck lasts 2 hours, and my switch 3. So the 12 plus hours seems like a godsend.
I bought a DSi few months ago already having a N3DSXL mainly for its portability and its display quality for DS games. The shell was really scratched so decided to reshell it to transparent, looks pretty sick.

@@JobenJonzalez you just need cfw (custom firmware) for luma and twilight menu, it seems complicated but it’s just drag and drop files, it took me maybe 20 minutes, and the USA games will run in English but the system menus will be stuck in Japanese. I understand if people don’t like that tho
Yes it can 100% be undone. The homebrew is all really in the SD Card, so if you remove that with a new one or if you wipe it your ds should play normally.
I got it on amazon. I have them for pretty much all of my Main Systems I play with. I would highly suggest them, they feel great and keep the system safe.
Lol i got dsi for quarter of o3ds. But yeah as an adult im into bad habit of doomscrolling so handheld is a great option to combat that. Not a nintendo kid and always sony console in my teenage that mean adult being kid again.
I will say the original DS was bulky and the screen sucked and the DS lite was fragile however the GBA slot makes me lean twords the DS or DS lite for a non moded handheld
My DS lite was my go too before I really started using my DSi. I probably gravitate more towards the DSi since I never had one growing up so it feels the "newest" to me.

either buy a ds lite so you have a gba slot or buy a 3ds/new 3ds (xl) if you want all of the ds/3ds library.

Personally, getting a Japanese 3ds and home brewing it is the best option, all nds games and all 3ds games, but to each their own
