This was actually from 92', off the 'Broken' EP--which is amazing btw, you should definitely check out more from it PHM was 89'. But yeah, you're right, Trent was way ahead of his time. Been a big inspiration for my music (and countless others ofc) since I was a kid.
Yes, he was way ahead of his time when he recorded the Pretty Hate Machine album virtually all by himself and continued to be ahead of his time for many years. BTW every song on that first album is great
This isn't from PHM though, it's from Broken... If you want your mind blown listen to PHM, and as you listen to it realize he recorded the entire thing by himself in his 20's while he was working as a night janitor in a studio. The man is the avatar of a synthesizer.
@@jommywop I adore that album and it's a personal album to me. I was just kinda thinking, and probably wrongfully so, that those might be easier for Jersh to "get into". Now, upon reflection...I feel it is wrongfully so. You can't take the NIN journey without starting at that massive landmark.
I can see how thoser albums might be a little more accessible. The Fragile was the first NIN album I really listened to. I was late to the party I guess
More NIN please. Some suggested songs: Mr. Self-Destruct, Ruiner, Somewhat Damaged, The Line Begins to Blur, Discipline, All Time Low, Less Than. These are the more accessible songs and if you like them you’ll be able dive deeper into discography full of amazing stuff.
Jersh: "....this is 1989!" exactly man...this is why NIN has such a die-hard fan base.....he's legit, and has been ahead of the sonic curve for decades.
The Broken EP release was in 1992. What he read was the release date for Pretty Hate Machine which was a massive game changer of an album but did not feature this track on it.
Trent Reznor is eccentric, and a musical genius. Regarding the lyrics in this song, Trent has famously joked that he wants his epitaph to read: "REZNOR: Died. Said 'fist fuck' and won a Grammy.". He's been well recognized for his talent for his whole career. The live DVD they released called "And All That Could Have Been" is an amazing concert video. You could do almost any song from that and have a good time. If you want some more, and you should, give "Terrible Lie" and "We're in This Together" a try.

When he recorded PHM he was working nights as a janitor at a recording studio and recorded bits and pieces whenever he could during his shifts, pretty amazing what he made out of those conditions
For some reason when you said "geeeezzzz" it was the funniest ending to a person watching the video I could imagine. I'll be 40 in September and NIN is the first band I ever saw live when I was 13. They still hold a special place in my heart, which may sound weird if you're not into their music.
As for the video, the full Broken video for the EP is still around here. It's basically a snuff movie (a fake one of course) with all the songs and the finale ("Gave up") was re-filmed afterwards in studio with Marilyn Manson to avoid some other contreversies.
This is perfect. Just finishing up with Deftones one of my favourite bands and moving on to NIN one of my other favourite bands. Keep the great videos coming.
Believe it or not, this did actually get a decent amount of airtime on MTV at the time in the early 90s. This video is how I found out about NIN when I was in middle school, which my parents were decidedly not pleased about.
NIN is one of my favorite bands aaaa!! I’d recommend “Right where it belongs” !! very deep and aesthetic song. i love it, it’s very haunting and has always stuck with me.
NIN and Tool to this day remain my two favorites. So far ahead of their times and so influential to so many bands since. For me, they were the 90s and 00s incarnations of Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin.
While you can’t first time react to the popular NIN songs that we all know and love, you could maybe do a breakdown of the videos. I’d watch just to see Trent spinning on the wires in the Closer video again.
@@SuperJersh it's Trent Reznor with Atticus Ross. Since soundtracks might be tough genre to react to, it's one that's maybe worth a listen when you have time.
Broken remains my favourite record from NIN. Would love to see you react to "Last" or "Happiness in Slavery." Others from various albums, "Sin," "Ringfinger," "Ruiner," "The Becoming," "Somewhat Damaged," "The Wretched," "Lost Souls."
You should check out the entire Broken movie (in which this video is featured). It's a long-form video for the whole Broken EP ... you won't be able to react to it on here, but you certainly will never forget it... Just do a search for "NIN the broken movie" with google.
If you do more NIN in the near future, I would highly recommend just about anything off of The Downward Spiral, OR his amazing double album The Fragile. And honestly...I would be sooo freakin pumped to see you react to tracks 3 and 4 off of the 'Left Disc' of The Fragile...the tracks bleed into one another, The Frail being sort of a preamble to The Wretched...easily some of my all time favorite NIN. Here's a link to a good 'copy' of the two in succession. Much love to you sir! ruclips.net/video/78cV8LhAeLE/видео.html
I love his soundtrack work with Atticus Ross...the social network is such a great atmospheric album...great to paint to. "Reptile" "all the love in the world" both are great too
(M)TR got alot of flack over his first studio album Pretty Hate Machine from the industrial crowd, for being too pop and whiny. Personally I loved Pretty Hate Machine, I bought this album the day it came out and was thoroughly disappointed as I wasn't expecting him to reinvent himself so much. It very quickly grew on me though.

Love NIN but KMFDM and Ministry were doing this well before Trent. Definitely his own unique sound though.
Matt Seewald Skinny Puppy and Ministry*

That album got me through one of the hardest heart breaking break ups in my life.
he got a Grammy for wish in 93
Should definitely dig into his albums 'The Downward Spiral', 'The Fragile' (both bona fide masterpieces), and 'Year Zero'.
No love for pretty hate machine?

The Frail / The Wretched as a combo from NIN. Cmon mate.

Wow I hadn’t heard this song in a LONG time, like probably 20 years. Surprisingly I still remembered every word though. This was my shit as a teenager
Huge Tool and NIN fan, love the channel.
Type O Negative: ❤️ U 2 💀
This is perfect. Just finishing up with Deftones one of my favourite bands and moving on to NIN one of my other favourite bands. Keep the great videos coming.
The video is what their early concerts felt like
Also was a big single, he won a Grammy for this song lol.
of course he did, what a show off. 😂😂😂
Please do more Nine Inch Nails. There is so much that sounds so different than this song too and its all great.

There is a small sample of a Bowie song in this song. That's where the credit comes in.
NIN and Tool to this day remain my two favorites. So far ahead of their times and so influential to so many bands since. For me, they were the 90s and 00s incarnations of Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin.
More NIN!!!💖....there is some great live footage as well
Now in his 50s, Trent still includes this one on NIN gig setlists 🤟🤟🤟. Legend.
You said it. I’m 38 and I have no idea why the last 12 years went by so fast. I don’t feel as old as I am.
Heroin diet back in the day.

Katatonia - Sold Heart
This was way ahead of it's time in 1989
Eths - Crucifere
Being a movie fan yourself, I assume you have heard the soundtrack to The Social Network. It's very good.
i watched the movie once in theaters and don't remember anything about it soundtrack or otherwise :/

YESSSSSS do more pls pls Something I Can Never Have
Will you do another nine inch nails reaction anytime soon? I recommend listening to "home" or "somewhat damaged" by NIN!

Linkin Park had a pretty dope cover of this song as well.
Dillinger Escape Plan do as well ruclips.net/video/x0psq9eveKQ/видео.html
@@pushpauseandwave Damn, that's awesome as well!
You should listen to March of the Pigs, Ruiner, or Down In It
Burn off the natural born killer soundtrack
Burn is a great song. Doesn't get anywhere near enough recognition.
It’s from 92, I think. Not sure why Bowie is credited.
NIN - somewhat damaged
👍
This is actually 1992, not 1989. Great video btw 👍
When will youtubers start doing reactions to the whole Broken movie?
Oh yes. How about I Gave Up by Nine Inch Nails
It seem to me you like performances, So try this. Garry Moore, “The Messiah will come again”. It’s posted by Patrick Webster. Very easy to find.
You should do heresy from nin next
So, how old are you, and what have you been listening to these last 20 years? It amazes me that you haven’t heard so many songs.

It got a lot of MTV play.
I think this song is about the pain of deconversion, especially the realization that you’ve been fed a load of bunk.
this is 1992
Do Reptile by NIN
pls react to lady gaga G.U.Y (an Artpop film)
Would get more views if the audio quality was better.
Maybe it's just me but I think the Linkin Park cover is waaayyy better than the original.
react to chelsea wolfe - 16 psyche! i think you'll like it
