Stunning. It stands on it own, of course, but it was the perfect fit for the film... and the Academy (thankfully) recognized that and awarded it the Oscar. Bravo... and well-deserved.
One of my favorite movies when I was a lil girl and still is one of my favorite movies today. The man always trying to make things harder than they have to be!!
It’s a great song, I can see why it won that year. But “Rainbow Connection” will always have a special place in my heart, so I think it should’ve won. Just my opinion.
Ain't no miracle bein' born People doin' it everyday Ain't no miracle growin' old People just roll that way So it goes like it goes and the river flows And time it rolls right on And maybe what's good gets a little bit better And maybe what's bad gets gone Bless the child of the workin' man She knows too soon who she is And bless the hands of a workin' man He knows his soul is his So it goes like it goes and the river flows And time it rolls right on And maybe what's good gets a little bit better And maybe what's bad gets gone Yeh it goes like it goes like the river flows And time keeps rollin' on And maybe what's good gets a little bit better And maybe what's bad gets gone
This song and Vincent I want played at my funeral. Then, a proper Irish wake with Jameson handed around respectfully and every funny story everyone has stored in their memory to come forth.
I don't understand why all the questions as to why this song beat " Rainbow Connection". The vocal performance was stunning, the piano work impeccable, and it fits the film and it's themes so well. " Rainbow Connection" was not really an intrinsic part of the story, it was just a nice tune to introduce Kermit to the movie, a movie that really said little or nothing about modern American life. Sally Field was perfectly cast. Her Southern " sassy" character probably mirrored the real story it was based around, a working woman with two different father's for her two kids, and her string of affairs that culminated in a marriage and then an obsession with the Union.
This video reminds us of how Sally filled was the girl for her time. She was so beautiful and such a girl next door way that most all men found her completely irresistible. She wasn't an exotic beauty. She looked like a girl who was attainable to the average guy and that made her sexy And the focus of so much male attention. It seems like yesterday this film came out and she was so young and beautiful and now she's knocking at 80 years old. Because of movies like this she will be Forever Young and forever beautiful.
It will forever piss me off that this song somehow managed to win an Oscar for Best Song when 'The Rainbow Connection' was also nominated for Best Song that same year. Ask anyone if they even remember this song today; almost no one does. In contrast, 'The Rainbow Connection' is an absolute classic known worldwide.
The award usually goes to either A) the most famous musician up for it, B) the song that’s from one of the movies racking up the big awards, or C) the Disney song.
Not as good as rainbow connection. Ill bet over half the people watching this are only here because they read that this somehow won the oscar instead. Oh well
The people on here crying about how "The Rainbow Connection" should have won over this song are seriously delusional. 😂 The Rainbow Connection is a garbage song.

Simple little song but beautifully written and performed and perfect for that film.
This is a hauntingly beautiful gem.

Great movie. Sally Field definitely earned her Oscar for this one and for Places in The Heart.
One of the most profound opening scenes and the most exquisite tracks. Won Best Song TG.
@itabrennan7420 I agree 100%!
Was an occupational safety and labor lawyer for some years. Yup. This is exactly what I saw. Beautiful song.
I think personally this film may be Sally Fields finest work . My opinion
I think its Steel Magnolias
One of my favorite movies when I was a lil girl and still is one of my favorite movies today. The man always trying to make things harder than they have to be!!
A truly perfect movie.
1:55 lovely key change. This song won an Academy Award; beating out the heavily favored “Rainbow Connection” from The Muppet Movie.
Great movie and great memories.
It’s a great song, I can see why it won that year. But “Rainbow Connection” will always have a special place in my heart, so I think it should’ve won. Just my opinion.
nothing gets me crying like Rainbow Connection
What a treat to have both songs
The song perfectly fits the movie and vice versa
Hey....great song also.
Ain't no miracle bein' born
People doin' it everyday
Ain't no miracle growin' old
People just roll that way
So it goes like it goes and the river flows
And time it rolls right on
And maybe what's good gets a little bit better
And maybe what's bad gets gone
Bless the child of the workin' man
She knows too soon who she is
And bless the hands of a workin' man
He knows his soul is his
So it goes like it goes and the river flows
And time it rolls right on
And maybe what's good gets a little bit better
And maybe what's bad gets gone
Yeh it goes like it goes like the river flows
And time keeps rollin' on
And maybe what's good gets a little bit better
And maybe what's bad gets gone

And thank you so much for this. My favorite song.

You dizzy me.
My fav movie of Sally. Plus, kiss Me Goodbye
Song perfectly matches the movie
Excellent!
Wonderful
Wow, imagine a time when things were made in America
Wish they still were sad factories like this exploited people they demanded more so they went overseas and exploited people down there

Very well-stated, indeed, sir.
I'm still singing this Karaoke ❤
Randy Newman songs always break my heart.....

Wrong
I love Rainbow Connection, but this song and performance by Jennifer Warnes 100% deserved the Oscar win.
This emotional song still haunts me
Any song that can make me cry in anguish over the premature death of my constantly working Texas father deserves the OSCAR and more..@@lkronquist
Bitter
Sadly not much has changed in Opelika, except NAFTA sent it packing and the mill conveniently burned down.
This sing was bett5than simple Sally performance
Delicioso tema
Nice, but I still don't see why it beat "Rainbow Connection" for Best Song.

That's the reason I came to check it out after hearing Kermit and Debbie Harry singing it and then seeing the Oscar performance.
Dionne Warwick Live At Oscars From Best Song From Norma Rae
Song more memorable than simple Sally performance
Rainbow Connection was robbed.

Can you elaborate on that?
