- Wow. Bosch make a sweet jigsaw. The GST 18 V-Li S is the latest 18V version, a brushed barrel grip unit.
We compare this to the previous (D-Handle version) 18V Bosch jigsaw and put it through its paces in timber and steel.

See you guys love a Bosch jigsaw. Same with me. Used too have the corded barrel version. Now I got the "D" type, in cordless. I was shocked, when I saw no "variable speed wheel" .
But it did not take long to get used to the new setup.

The edge of the front of the battery looks very close to the work surface, on other barrel jigsaws the battery is up higher or mounted at an angle. It looks like a design fault to me.
I.was the same, until I started using the barrel grip and to took some getting adapted but now I understand it's far more accurate to hold the tool with the barrel grip and you simply adjust the tool before the cut and take more care; But it's easier because your closer to the work anyway

The blade on the D-handle jigsaw looks like a cheese knife! Do either unit have dust collection ports like the corded versions?
+Paul “TheWoodKnight” Jenkins yeah that's a flush cut blade that cuts in front of the jigsaw, so you can cut right up to a wall/vertical obstacle. Pretty handy. No, no dust collection on these.
These 18v jigsaws are such beasts. The deep cutting depth does come in handy, when partnered with a cordless circular saw. Jigsaw for fine cuts and curves, circular saw for straight ripping, and then the jigsaw comes into its own again cutting lumps of wood that would smoke the little circular. I have cut 85mm engineered timber beams and salvaged hardwood framing no trouble. It is not the squarest cut with a long flexy blade, but it is neater than with a reciprocating saw, and allows you to operate without a corded saw if needed.

Nic I've had some crazy long blades in my old AEG 240v unit before .... Beast is correct
though it was worth mentioning there is dust extraction adapter part number 2605510301 in case anyone is interested but put off by lack of extraction
any plans to review the 10.8v bosch jigsaw?

Impressive tool! I like the blade in the D-handle jigsaw. i'm going to looks for some of those. To bad I'm invested in Makita and Milwaukee cordless tools. I find jigsaws to be similar to multi-tools, you'll always need to buy lots of blades!
+Terry Goyan nah I think jigsaw blades last much better than multi-tool blades. Makita make some good jigsaws I think, and one is brushless. the D_handle blade is a flushcut Dewalt blade.
You raise some goods points with the differences, good comparison video. Also enjoy the fact that its on aussie models tools and not oversea versions. Good one guys.

Nice looking tools. Can't say I've ever owned a "quality" jigsaw, cordless or otherwise, so interested to see a good tool at work.
One concern with the barrel style is the locking switch, in that if the machine's still running when withdrawing the blade, there's the risk of stabbing the material, damaging it or the blade.
+Gaf you can just turn it off before removing if you want to. :)
Gaf, I have used jigsaws for a Lj gntime now and I love the barrel but you are correct, it's a little awkward to flick off easily when doing some cuts.
My AEG (German AEG) has the same style switch but on top. I LOVE it.

question, you guys said you can cut beveled cuts on the barrel grip but others have said that you need the d-grip to do beveled cuts, can you confirm either way?

I've got one, decided beveled cuts were not important to me, which is good as it doesn't do beveled cuts. Only the D grip does them.

This is a hobby and very keen Interest for us but we dont draw a wage. We cannot afford to buy all the tools we would like. So we form relationships with suppliers and go from there now. FESTOOL are amazing but have not spoken to us about forming a relationship.
We certainly would love to work with Festool as I think their products are amazing.
