Regardless of how this story ends I always feel sick hearing about all the ways that human activity is so lethal to all other species. Most people have complete disregard for this matter. Either they chalk it up to collateral damage in profit making business or they look at other species as irrelevant to their lives. Lives that are usually plugged into the emptiness of consumerism. Most of that is acquiring useless products that create millions of tons of plastic trash. The human species can be highly destructive (and greedy).
We need legislation to make the ships slow down. So what about the extra time it takes. Sometimes doing the right thing is more important than more profit. 💙🐋
Would it be possible to tag them with something akin to an "air tag" that would alert ships to their presence within close proximity? I know most open water boats (even most small sailboats) have a transponder on board so that other ships (larger ships especially) can "see" them on their ships radar.
Yes. Trump destroys in favor of profit with zero understanding or care of how anything works and why sonething shouldn't be for profit. Endless profit corrupts and renders some things useless. Just like he eliminated the Pandemic Response Team having zero clue how it saved us from ebola. And rendered us powerless to immediately even mitigate COVID.
Protecting whales from ship strikes 1941pm 13.10.24 the whales should unite and trounce those boats... easily shifted in only a few inches of water by the waves, though.....
International policy, laws, and enforcement are the only way these creatures will survive. This is a global issue. History shows that will never happen.
As a great fan of David Pogue and CVS Sunday Morning, I am tremendously disappointed in reporting on the story regarding whale deaths. David, it is not that you may disagree regarding building wind turbines in our oceans is a major suspected culprit in this equation, but it's the fact that you never even mentioned it, even if you wanted to disagree with that fact! As an older guy who has watched Sunday morning since the first Charles Kuralt episode, all through Charles Osgood and now Jane Pauley, I consider this for an biased reporting of you David, and I love so many of your excellent segments! Again, it's not something you had to agree with, but the fact that you never even mentioned that in the equation of your entire story is not good and fair reporting, there is no doubt about that! I most probably will never hear from you David and will still look for your pieces in the future, but this was bad an biased reporting!
Maybe take into account that the story was about the dangers boats cause whales. And ask that the dangers of wind turbines to wild life be done as well. It's fair, but find it amazing that so many people that could give a crap one way or another suddenly do when it comes to green tech.
I don't care for Kamala Harris or what the Democratic Party has become, but I'll hold my nose and vote for them because I know Trump and Republicans will- like on many environmental regulations- rollback protections such as what the government is trying to do to protect whales.
Slowing down should not be voluntary. We need these regulations immediately in order to save these beautiful creatures.
Thank you to everyone trying so hard to do the right thing.

Good to know action is being taken, well done everyone involved.
Please protect these wonderful whales, that are so much loved.
Whether from foreign hunters or ship mishaps with crashes, sonar torture, etc., we must save whatever whales are left!
I hope there is compassion for whales and humanity.
Thank you CBS Sunday
Whales should not suffer and die to satisfy corporate greed. Lord knows we humans do, and we shouldn't subject whales to it
Live simply..less stuff = less ships. Thank you for sharing this will all.
Please SAVE the northern right whale 🐋 Under 300 left. Thank you to the people helping 💙.
So important.
Save the whales !!

Amen. Agree with you 💯
Your comments are absolutely correct and well stated!
Thank God people are watching out for these beautiful & great creatures!
It's about time humans think of other life than themselves ❤ Let's make a priority over greed

The slowdowns should not be voluntary. They should be required. Money can be replaced, but whales 🐋🐳 can't be replaced.

Put bumpers on the ship
NOAA has a big role in whale protection. Trump’s Project 2025 would privatize NOAA, likely ending this important research and protection of whales.

Your “expert” lost all credibility with the anthropomorphism at 5:03.

Maybe put a deep Horn on the ship to warn the whale!
Its the Whales home turf, not man's. Man can find another port. Build one. You made that one didn't ya?

Are the whales more important then homelessness?
It’s not a contest, the world can help both
WE CAN DO BOTH.
Sheesh.
My answer is yes. The ecosystems in the world and the wildlife in them are required to even keep the planet working. Humans are not.
Yes
Make it in America and you won't have to import so much garbage.
