  • The first event report on the channel of an Autotest in the Mini, wathc the trials and tribulations of trying to keep the Mini whilst also kicking it's ass round the track.
    Lots of thanks to Alwoodley Motor Club for putting on the event and to Phil and Chris Chapman for some camera work and the thumbnail picture.

    Ahhh, the knobbed steering wheel, now that would seem to make quick turns easier so long as you were used to those. I've seen very few my life time in cars in the US, but earlier in your slowmo footage, I was like, WOW, this is stunt driver 101 with all the sharp turns forward and reverse.
    Edit: I think showing the weekend racing stuff is great! I don't know if you're familiar with the recent changes in the EPA here in the US, and that pretty much the tinkering of any race converted vehicle is now deemed illegal (if the vehicle weren't purely race breed, hence if it has a VIN it's considered illegal) to modify.
    In the recourse of these new found teeth given to the US EPA, SEMA had come up with the RPM act which is suppose to help preserve some of the things that makes motorsports possible to the average Joe.
    I don't know how it is in the UK, but I feel like many tuner, and race mod based channels here could be doing that whole community a favor by showing more trailered weekend racing, less street driven performance.
    Drive-by-wire, I'm interested to see how or what can be done with this in TS with the Speeduino.

    • @MakingforMotorsport
      @MakingforMotorsport  3 года назад

      You're absolutely right about Stunt driving 101, we've got several stunt drivers and also more general stunt performers also complete...
      I've heard about the RPM vs EPA and it sounds like a really shit do and the RPM act seems like a halfway house with street based guys going under the bus to save professional motorsports, although its just tuning houses being targeted at the moment with action.
      If that's the way it's going then I think you're right, dedicated motorsports would be the way for people to go, but some people just aren't competitive, or can't afford a dedicate car with the trailer, tow car and space you need.... I've not got an answer, just seems a shame that the US, a "small" government low regulation country is going for the big stick approach.

    Bravooo! You really let your brain works, the idea to flat the curve on iat has been sweet, loved it! try to see if you can select other type of air sensor on tool bar, maybe there is another scale. I'm heaving trouble because can't set properly my iat scale, 3.3% volumetric change by every 10° celsius should be ideal starting from 25° as 100%, but i need to go around 5% and this shows a problem in my case. Anyway, do you have the possibility to attach a hose under or on top of every throttle body? you could create a sort of mini hose manifol to read the pressure bypassing alphan method. I'm really sorry for gearbox issue! Good luck mate! keep racing!!!

    • @MakingforMotorsport
      @MakingforMotorsport  3 года назад

      Thanks! I can always come up with a work around! I didn’t say it on the video but i think the sensor itself is fine as it was reading values and changing so I think calibration is the issue, which I tried the other calibrations and none worked so I just wanted to get it going….
      I already have that setup for MAP, but I don’t use it, I’ve not spent much time mapping but I just can’t get the same throttle response from SD as I do with AlphaN.

      @@MakingforMotorsport non linear response is very easy to do with a throttle cam with a certain shape, could be fun to print aswell. • @MakingforMotorsport

      @@biggboysouth I wouldn’t get too hung up on surface finish, obviously you want no protrusions but because of boundary layers the air closest to the wall doesn’t actually move, so you’re not loosing much with a slightly rough surface. There is also a school of thought that you’re best off with a rough surface as this gives slight turbulence above the boundary layer next to the walls, this is good as it stops fuel dropping out of suspension and forming droplets (less of a problem in trumpets tho!)
      If you are gonna sand then just to do it wet or wear a mask… you don’t wanna be breathing carbon fibre….
