@@Trash_vvizard its mostly legato, thats how dave is doing that fast part. Im currently learning it and the only problem is the weird chromatic part in that run

0:25 I get so confused, in solo 1, is it Mustaine's solo? people say it's Mustaine, others says it's Poland. I do know Mustaine does lead guitar solos too, but i never think he would use a whammy bar, i know Poland did. It's probably Poland

It's 100% Mustaine, dude. Dave would occasionally use trems in the early years as his Jackson V was equipped with a Kahler. And you can absolutely hear that it's Dave's tone, chromatic/pentatonic licks and aggressive, choppy playing style. If you're a guitarist, you probably need to work on your ear if you hear any trace of Poland in that solo. The only solo Poland plays on Wake Up Dead is the third one.

@@flynnbarry3995but Dave also did the 3rd solo.. Kno? You can see it live since the 80s it was Dave who did all 3 solos in this song

@@ConanObrien22 Dave plays the first, second and fourth (final) solos. Poland plays solo no. 3, the blink-and-you'll-miss-it run at 1:56 immediately after Dave's one. To the uninitiated ear it might sound like a continuation of Dave's second solo, but it's defs Poland. If you look closer at the live footage you're referencing, you'll see what I mean.

@@flynnbarry3995 Yes you are absolutely right. However I will mention that I can see where the guy is coming from, considering that Dave isn't really known for whammy stuff. That's actually something I was thinking at first years ago when I first heard this album and was new to Megadeth back then. I learned otherwise later, but also as my guitar skills progressed, my ability to discern different player's styles got better.
As a guitarist of almost 24 years now (wow...doesn't seem that long!) and a longtime metal/rock fan, I can now tell Dave and Poland's styles apart right away. Poland just had this phenomenally fluid style that is unmistakable, and he is heard very well on this album in particular IMO. However I like Dave's pinch harmonic whammy bar at the start of the first solo. It just melts me into thrash metal heaven instantly. Both were an amazing duo of guitarists, too bad it couldn't have lasted longer.
