This is the first episode in this build series and the longest one I have ever uploaded. There is a lot of work that goes into the hull to get it to the point where you can put some paint on it. That's what this video is all about. Future videos should be much shorter.
To see how to make serious corrections to the hull in order to get the most "accurate" build possible, check out Nigel's Modeling Bench here on RUclips. But be warned, he is conducting VERY advanced modifications to the hull. His techniques may not be suitable for beginners. But definitely go give his channel a "LIKE" and "SUBSCRIBE". He does amazing work. Хобби
Really liked the tag team modeling/history approach - I hope we will continue to see you working as a team, thank you.
Excellent vid, great start, cool format - the historical narratives really add to it. There's tons wrong with the kit itself as far as I know so great to see you fixing some of the more glaring issues. Look forward to the next installment.
First, thank you for your support of our men and women who have served and are in need. There are so many organizations out there doing the same thing, to all of them thank you as well. Great start Ben and it is very cool to see your wife participating in the build.. Never miss one of your posts, keep up the great work, looking forward to the next one
The project is off to a great start! This is going to be a fun build to watch!
That was great that ur telling a story, while painting. I love that.
The size of this thing is nuts!!!! Also really loving the team work guys! Looking forward to see how this build goes! Thank you both for sharing!
On your stern rudder them little plates you coulden't figer out they was actually zink plates
Great to have you back, can't wait to see how the titanic turns out.
I went to the Titanic museum a couple of year's ago very worthwhile visit.
Good to see you both this time , looking good , I am following Nigel’s build but it’s so good to follow your approach as well and looking forward to the next video, good idea about the people and the short story
Your very passionate about your modelling, the attention to detail is superb.
I was listening to music and then stumbled upon the two of you....I love creating and working with models (I am in the middle of handcrafting a double-hulled Hawaiian voyaging canoe...48" outriggers bow to stern....milled and carved the wood) and appreciate the challenge of working from scratch. I will be watching this project you are working on...it looks to be a real beauty! Thank you for your service (me....tour of duty Viet Nam 1967-1968 USARV). Best wishes to both of you.
Thank you, Sir! And thank you for your service as well!!’
Glad to see this project start.
I like your problem solving and modeling philosophy. I watch these in segments but appreciate the longer vids over several short ones.
Thanks David! I wrestle with that a lot. How long to make a video and how many to make. I felt like I could get away with this because almost all of the hull prep work is in one video. I could have cut a bunch of stuff out. But it still would have easily been an hour long.
@@TheMidwestModelShop I thought it’s been well done. I like having the choice of the pause button!
glad to see you both back , look forward to the build.
Ben, Nora - great start for a complicated build. Really looking forward to the rest of the story! Y'all make a great team!
KCS!
Great video. Nice to see you and your wife working together. Some really good pro tips.
Great to see you back in the shop. Always enjoy your vids.
you are one of the people i admire on this hobby , researching everything to the last detail, making corrections on the kit, adding all sorts of missing stuff etc. I doubt I'd have such patience, i much prefer to just build the kit straight away, so kudos to you sir
Thanks Mike! I honestly don’t do that “much” research. I benefit a lot from others who I consider subject matter experts. And yes, I too enjoy building a model straight out of the box after any big in-depth project. That’s why I have my little Ban Dai Star Wars kits sitting off to the side when I need a quit and easy break.
Great Video Ben and Nora.I love how You use your initiative and experience by using plastic card instead of throwing money at it with after market etch like most others do,These models cost enough as it is.Keep up the good work n HAPPY MODELLING
Great to see you back modelling, and building my favourite ship 😊love it already looking great even early on 😊👍🏻some great tips there your videos are always awesome 😊hope you’re all doing ok 😊take care stay safe and look forward to the next vid😊
Off to a great start. Been watching Nigel's as well. That build will make your head explode! Takes some nuggets to cut up a $350 kit like that. I like your approach too. The red came out good too. Looked like it was going to be too bright judging by the cap but it looks great. Can't wait for the next vid.
Awesome!
I'm building the 1/400 100th anniversary Edition from Revell at the moment. I love the History of the Titanic and the Ship itself.
The work and detailing you put on it..... It's just *WOW*!
In my opinion the next episode could be much longer.
Wish it were online right now. Glad to see how it looks if you finish it.
Greets from Germany.
Thanks you! I really appreciate it!
I look forward to seeing the finished product I know it will look stunning as usual
Great to see this project finally started.
That's one heck of a detailed model. Probably the best one so far. Speaking of which I haven't even started on both my 1/350 Lusitania and Titanic models yet which I bought back in '98, but then I want this one too.
Awesome! I’ve got the 1/350 kit, and this video shows a lot of cool stuff! I’ve had the kit for over 10 years, and this made me exited to finally start it. I’m looking forward to seeing more!
I thank you for your service to our country. I've devoted 20 years 3 months and one tour in the Army myself. Now retired, I'm doing what your doing. I like the build your doing and looking forward to the finish...
Thank you! And thank you for your service as well!
What a great start to this build. I'm looking forward to part 2.
You and me both!
Good video, off to a good start on a new build. Good tip on putting the spray cans in hot water to warm them up.
Always enjoy your builds
you are amazing model builder
Awesome video, both of you!! Great to see your wife getting involved. Mine is not interested in models, but does other crafts while I do mine. Keep up the good work. I'm getting ready to move, so waiting to start another ship until I get settled in the new house.
My wife paints small detials my hands are not steady enough for the smallest parts so she paints for me
Great job... the information you provide is fascinating!!! Can't wait for the next video!!!
Great intro! Can’t wait to see the Titanic with people.
Thanks Bro!
Thank you for making this video i just bought a 1/350 scale model of the titanic and i found this video really helpful. its people like you guys who make my day happier.
Oh and if you guys do a titanic model again can you have like a moment of silence or something to honor those who died. Thanks
Looks amazing a lot of work done definitely paying off
The Titanic an illustrated history is a great reference book. I have a 1/700 one that I plan on building when I get all of the supplies I need. Wish you all the best with your build.
Thank You and this is the book I go to for my reference material.
Excellent timing just starting mine!!
Those type of drill bits always, always break. Looking good guys. 👍
Wow, really really impressive. Love your techniques and hobby skills. I notice that I'm a bit late watching this video, but I'm hooked. Thanks for this post. :)
Hello!! Very happy to join the club! As a former NCO of the French Air Force, I friendly and respectfully salute you and your charming spouse. Thank you very much for the video.
Looks fantastic cannot wait to see more
What a great video to see a couple modelling together, true friends make an excellent marriage💕
I love your little dog! Cute little thing! Great video!
Really nice video buddy and awesome you wife is involved 👍🏻🇬🇧
Glad to see you back your work is amazing
I appreciate it!
Loving this build!
Look forward to following this build I too have this kit will get to it one day
So happy I found this video. Really looking forward to the journey.
I do not have the 1/200 scale but do have the Centenary Edition 1/400 Academy model I have not built yet.
Hope watching you will help me get started. The Trumpeter kit here in Australia is about $600 so I may wait a while for that. 😀
I hope so, too! Everything I'm painting should be the same for you but only be about 1/8th the amount required LOL!!!
Looks like trumpy put out quite a gem. More power to ya buddy.
On the rudder.....The zinc plates are called anodes. KUTGW brother 52:57 was priceless. That patch @ 59:20, just cut all that square instead of wasting time on trying to match curves. been there done that myself.
Anodes!!!! That’s right!
Great Video, great skills. I am excited about the following Videos! Greetings from germany.
Nice job!! Thanks for the video 👍👍😉
Awesome! Thanks for video
Amazing! Cool work!
Great video like it very much .Hope more to come .Take care.
IT `S SO Beautiful AND LOVLY
Aircraft Maintainer for 35 years! Air Force! I loved everyday of it! I retired last April. I worked A-7's way back in the late 80's and the rest of my career from about 1991 was F-16's! It was such a wonderful career! Contrary to the t shirt I don't want my "MRE". :) I know this video is 2 years old, (How did you know I would be watching this two years later? ) :) but somthign that might be fun is artists doing paintings to hang on the walls of the build. Not sure what teh scale size of that would be and perhaps that is crazy I don't know. :)
Great you finally started!
That a nice big model..Wicked!
Thank you for going through the books you are using
Very cool project.
Thank you guys
loved the detailing
Thanks!
Off to a good start!!!
I just acquired this model kit. Man is it going to require a lot of work!
What a fabulous team, your wife is a special lady, your a lucky man Matt. Just a fantastic beginning build, thanks.......
Thanks! Who’s Matt?
Oh boy, sorry Ben.......you look like a Matt.......
Brilliant love it
Got yourself a new subscriber, awesome guys 👍
Thanks! I appreciate it!
Lovely work sir. I watch Nigel and marvel at the work he is doing. I also appreciate the simpler "massaging" of what the kit gives you to correct and add detail. I look forward to the rest of this build. Also, either a screen grab from your portrait session or your wife's final product should end up framed on your backdrop wall . . .
Already on it. At a minimum it will be taped up for the next video and a frame will be in it’s future....after, it’s returned from the MOA, on loan of course 😉
@@TheMidwestModelShop Good man!
OMG, OMG! Exciting!
thank you for your service sir
Just subscribed today, ex-military myself, fantastic what your promoting, THANK YOU !! I'm also a scale modeler, rock on.
Awesome, David!!! Thanks!
Thankyou for your service bro... I'm ex-Navy Submariner retired...excellent build and it reminds me of old submariner qoute which goes like this..." There's only two two types of ships in the Navy... Submarines & Targets😁😎👍👌✌Peace!
Great to see you and your wife do a great model together can't wait to see more
That a big model. Love to have one for my collection
Hi Ben. I was a model maker on the 1996 film. We had actual real life ship fitters come in and create the hull plating on the 44 foot model. I am very much enjoying your video build series. Could have used you on the film! I'm excited to buy this kit and begin. Thx man! Mac.
Thanks Mac! I really appreciate it! It would have been fun to help out with a movie prop!
I would love to have these templates to add to my Trumpeter model. They make the stern look incredible!
First of all, I want to say thank you for your service. I was in the Marine Corps for 8 years. Actually this T-Shirt is perfect for me, because I was a 0341 I was in Mortars. I was a Mortarman. And yes I did call for fire. Perfect. I will be getting one, also to help other vets. Actually that is more important to me than anything else is to help other vets. Just make sure you get ALL of your V.A benefits ok. Ya'll take care.
I have stood in line at the V.A. for and am receiving, every benefit I qualify for. Thank you for emphasizing this. I do the same thing for everyone I run into.
Thank you both for your service. From a belgian.
If you haven’t yet and get a chance. Check out the USS Yorktown in South Carolina. I stayed in it, ate in it and got to walk through it years ago. It’s a blast, if you are still able to do so.
Gewaltiger Bausatz!
Fun to watch
Nice Job.
I just found your channel by accident. I would sell my soul to be part of your model making crew.
Ha ha ha ... in grade six I got a Titanic model (about this size) and it caused me sooo much stress! LOL In the end I found it really educated me about the layout of the ship ..... but oh man, the endless hours of STRESS LOL .... (BTW I was in grade six back in 1991) lol.
Nice video, nice project and nice dogs you have :D
Thank you very much!
I love your videos
Very cool! I build a Titanic Academy 1/400, but 1/200? Amazing!!!!
Great video. Your wife is very cool. Great team.
Thanks 👍
Un vrai challenge !participation de l·épouse, c·est super ....Bonne vidéo ....A+
Merci beaucoup 😊
Tip, If ye paint the area below the waterline wi white first before the "anti fouling" red, the colour wi show better.
Lol the dog like "Here we go again...hurry up nd put me down pls"
Very first episode and we get an 80 minute video; hope this is a sign of things to come.👍😁
I'm only about 12 minutes in and I can't say Im all that impressed with the kit. Going by the flaws on the hull pieces, probably considered the two most important parts of the kit, it looks like you're going to be spending a lot of time fixing 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑖𝑟 𝑖𝑛𝑎𝑑𝑒𝑞𝑢𝑎𝑐𝑖𝑒𝑠 - not a great start.
And 80 minutes just flew by. Loads of progress, probably because you've got help this time.😁
The "paint a passenger" scheme is genius, I wonder how many you'll get. My painting skills, or lack of, rule me out of helping but it should be a whole lot of fun, seeing what, or who, everyone sends in. I'm really looking forward to this build, especially as it's a passenger vessel, rather than a warship.
Herself should have no trouble finding "Tales from the Titanic" for each episode; there's just 𝒔𝒐 much written about the ship, her passengers and the crew.
Cheers for now,
Dougie.
Thanks Dougie! Good to hear from you, again!
What a fun thing to do, best regards from one of your new subscriber :)
Thanks!
wow amazing to see all the meticulous corrections!!! Trumpeter should watch this and make the necessary amends to the mould!:)
amazing
Great work Ben.. wish I was that far forward with mine!! I will be sending a court summons to you for copying my drill jigs lol. Mine are Stainless steel BTW.
I would love to see how your stern plating looks under the paint.
I sent you an email with super top secret pics! That may or may not have also ended up on Instagram.
@@TheMidwestModelShop looking GOOD buddy.
I do normally do model railroading. Used to do large clipper ships
Don't feel bad miss, I order those bits by the dozen!!! Lol
Thanks ben for mentioning me. I am so honored you did so. I got more info ill share with you on the titanic, if you want to know. Thank you so much, I love what you've done so far!
Yeah man! Send me what you've got!
@@TheMidwestModelShop ok, there's a lot!
looking forward to the next video!
It’s already out.
For all those holes, perhaps a "manicure drill" might be more useful. Amazing job! Greetings from Queretaro Mexico!
I've been looking forward to this build since you previewed the Titanic last year. 3-D printed stuff can be fragile and rule one after you've repaired it - the missing part will appear!
I thought the same thing for sure.....this time, though, it still hasn’t shown up 🤷🏻♂️
