day9's stories are so compelling always
Saw this in my related videos and immediately stopped to check his story first.
Yep, story time is the prime gem, games are just the filler between.
It’s been far too long since the last “story time” video. I love these.
They grow up so fast, that T-shirt will off to college soon
Sean... your story telling... It must be something about how on point your joy is. I can't help but share in those moments.
I will literally never get tired of Day9 stories
Only Sean has the absolute charisma to get me interested in clicking on a video about a shirt. Best storyteller in the world, I have no doubt about it.
"little feral animals" I love these stories
You and your bro, the real MVPs
We need a Tasteless collab on this channel
Edit: What the Deck Brother's War
Dude, that would be straight fire, I'd love to see that.
It's sorta surprising there hasn't been more crossover content like that. I guess it's a timezone thing.
Or a push-up contest.
I think the last time he talked about this was during the Star Craft Remastered launch event. Just another happy memory these shirts have been a part of!
Your stories always bring a smile to my face. Nice memories. And thats what its about, you don't need a "smart" phone for them!
This sounds kinda like how I managed to get like 8 Brawlhalla t-shirts.
At PAX Prime in 2018, it was the first year I had actually been, like, competitively good at any video game in my whole life, and it turns out that the devs had a booth set up there, and they were doing a "Beat A Dev" challenge. Brawlhalla is a platform fighter in the same vein as Super Smash Bros, and it was a 1v1 3-stock elimination. If you managed to land a hit on the dev, you got a pin. If you took a stock, you got a t-shirt. If you beat the dev, you got a code for the like $100 DLC cosmetics super-package.
It should be telling that not everybody who showed up was even getting the pins. The devs were pretty good at their own game, after all, and they had a bunch of playtesters and even the director of e-sports (who is easily diamond-tier himself) as the opponents. So I march up there and wait in line to fight the devs, and then discover that they've set up controllers while I'm far more used to mouse and keyboard. Yikes. I get absolutely clobbered as I try to even figure out how to play the game again, but I did manage to take a stock off of the dev before I was knocked out. Alright, no biggie, I went off to one of the demo booths and practiced with the controller for a little bit to get the hang of it, then got back in line.
The second time I get up there, I'm fired up, and I manage to take two stocks off of the dev this time. The fight went off the stage, and I would have won the code right then and there... Except I mis-input a dodge instead of the reversal attack I had been aiming for, and lamely dropped down to my death.
I called it for that day, since we had just gotten there and I didn't want to spend all of my time at the Brawlhalla booth. I fought them a bunch more over the course of the next few days, until the last day of PAX. By this point, I had fought the devs like seven times, never failing to take at least one stock but never quite managing to get the third, and I was ready to give it one last try before giving up.
I get in line, and as I step up to the console the dev I was fighting recognized me and greeted me by name, and we both select our legends. I have no idea what happened during that match, I was too focused to commit anything to memory, but I remember as I managed to land that last hit, and the dev rocketed off the stage, the whole crowd cheering and I almost collapse as the tension released. We hugged and told each other "good game", and I was in a bit of a daze as I collected my prize. My hands were shaking for a good five minutes afterwards, and I had a lot more to try to fit into my suitcase going home than I did on the way there.
The funniest part here is that these t-shirts probably lasted way longer than that camera did.
Sean tells the best stories.
The nick segment @4:20 is damn amazing to hear. Especially off the bittersweet back of beating him that day. Love y'all plotts!
Classic commented too early lol. So much nick love following!!!
Come for the games, stay for the stories.
This makes so much sense. This last weekend was PAX Aus and had 2 tournament stage set-ups and I had no idea why. I never actually watched any of it - I spent my time at the Sppedrunning stage instead.
Man, it's been way too long since the last Day 9 Story Time. These videos give me life.
Sean should get that shirt framed as a momento.
I have one of those shirts, but mine has a hole in it. It's my favorite shirt since it was such a great memory. :) Anyone remember how they were basically giving out unlimited free Red Bull downstairs and you could just go up and the guy would fill your backpack with as much red bull as you could carry? I think I went home with like 50 red bulls, no joke. The amount of free swag they would give out at these events back in the day was incredible. WCG USA 2005 was like one of the most fun tournaments ever, those were the days. I wish gaming was still like that.
I love story time with Day 9
If you ever want a good laugh, Look up the 2005 WCG and listen to that other commentator try to talk about the game.
"Hes building some Missile Turrets, that will help him defend his base against flying units"

Speaking of shirts.. where can I get one of your Day[9] merch shirt? The one I see you wear all the time. It's black with an orange sun with a 9 in it. I assume that it your design but I'm not sure. I'd love to get one, if you sell them. Just point me to the correct website. Please!
You can find Day[9]'s merch "Store" link on his website (link is in the youtube details card) at the very top. This will like to the site Design by Humans, who handle his merch. The shirt you mentioned is named "Knight Emblem".
