I was stationed in Atlanta (FT.McPherson) in 1986. The first words my sponser told me, after meeting me, was don't leave the base at night. He then showed me where he was robbed on his first day there. I see Atlanta hasn't changed much in 35 years.
I went to visit a frat at Georgia Tech around that time. I remember saying I wanted to take a stroll up Techwood Drive and see the sights. The frat brothers told me, "NO WAY." Even back then, Techwood Drive was known for crime. Right there on the college campus. Atlanta was like a different world to me. I can't imagine what it would be like now. And I never could figure out why people would allow that to happen to their cities and communities. Damn shame.

Truth time...When Decatur was bad in the 90s..Parents that could afford it, moved to the suburbs of riverdale, Marietta etc...Problem is..bad people follow you.Clayton County becomes Klayco...Buckhead,Chamblee And Brookhaven, when I was going to school out that way..was mostly white folks....Hardly heard of any crime..Buckhead definitely changed to more of a urban crowd...I'm not talking about lenox..Opened up some hip hop clubs,and folks hanging at ESPN zone.Some fights and shootings happened ..So knowing the neighborhood, you know that wouldn't last..They got rid of those spots..The main problem now is...Too many bad transplants coming to the city..just to continue their bad ways they was doing in other cities...To those neighborhoods and counties...crime isn't a problem til it becomes..WIDESPREAD..which is happening now all over buckhead and others...I'm just surprised they let it go on so long before saying..we fed up..
Now Decatur has $900K + homes. Good luck finding something for $500K.
