This is a perfect sandwich to make for St. Patricks Day!
I show you how to make it delicious!
Reuben Sandwich Recipe
One serving
Ingredients:
5 ounces sliced corned beef
2 - 3 slices swiss cheese
½ cup sauerkraut, drained
2 slices Rye bread
butter
Russian dressing
Russian Dressing
1 cup mayonnaise
3 tbsp. Shallot, finely minced
¼ cup ketchup
4 tsp. Horseradish
Pepper
1 tsp. Lemon juice
Several dashes of Sriracha sauce
2 -3 dashes worcestershire sauce
Directions for Russian dressing:
Combine all ingredients in a bowl and combine. Set aside.
On a grill pan over low heat, add the corned beef slices and the sauerkraut. Add 1 tbsp. Of water to the pan to provide a little moisture so the corned beef doesn’t dry out. Place a cover or a piece of foil over the pan.
Stir the sauerkraut occasionally and rotate the pieces of corned beef to heat evenly.
While that’s heating up, heat a pan over medium low heat and add butter to the bread. Place butter side down to toast the bread. Add more butter to the top of the bread and flip over.
Spread the Russian dressing on both pieces of the toasted side of the bread and layer the corned beef (after draining) on the sandwich. Then add the cheese, and sauerkraut. Place the other piece of bread on top.
Push the sandwich to the center of the pan and cover with a lid to help melt the cheese. Turn the heat to low. This should only take 30 seconds to 1 ½ minutes to fully melt the cheese.
I hope you enjoy the sandwich!

What's the difference between Pastrami and Corned Beef??
The answer is: First both Pastrami and Corned beef are brined in a salt water solution. Then after curing, the Pastrami is smoked while the Corned beef is boiled.

Hi Robin! You asked about the difference between pastrami and corned beef. Both are brined for several days prior to cooking and therein lies the difference. Pastrami is traditionally smoked with low heat for several hours after being removed from the brine and corned beef is traditionally boiled/simmered for an hour or two after brining. Thanks for your quick and easy Reuben sandwich recipe!
Fabulous! We will have it for lunch!
Hi Robin,
I am from Scotland and I made your Reuben sandwich, it was awesome and it's one of the best sandwiches i have ever had, thank you.
Will definitely make it again 🏴
So glad you enjoyed this sandwich! Thanks for getting back to me as well!
Okay. Update! The loaf of rye bread I got in the mail was outstanding. I made the sandwich almost exactly as you did and it came out the way a Reuben sandwich should taste. That Russian dressing was killer and made the sanwich extra special. I can hardly wait to put it on a hamburger. Thank you.
A great recipe! I do one tiny thing differently for any sandwich I make that has cheese slices. I put one slice of cheese on the top and one slice on the bottom so when it melts the meat is surrounded by a cheesy envelope. It also helps hold the sandwich together!
Sounds good Joe! Thanks for watching.
I use pumpernickel bread for my Reubens. Also use corn beef. Pumpernickel is my favorite bread!!! The Reuben is my favorite sandwich of all time!!!
I've never made Reuben sandwiches before but I love them. I bought five flat cut corned beef briskets over St Patrick's Day and froze them. Tomorrow I'm going to have a go at making some sandwiches using your technique. Thanks for your easy to follow instructions on how to make cheese sandwiches.
I bet those sandwiches turned out great! Thanks for stopping in to comment.
Robin is rocking it on the Reuben sammich!
Thanks!
I make them just like you do, with the exception of toasting both sides of the bread. That's a great idea, I will do that from now on. Thanks Robin.
You are welcome! Glad to be of help!
This sandwich looks amazing! Will definitely make it.
Thank you for this video! I'm making pastrami "from scratch" with a corned beef brisket this weekend and I got all the ingredients to make the Russian dressing and Reuben sandwiches. What I didn't have is a technique for actually making the sandwiches, but now I do. Reminds me of how my mom makes grilled cheese sandwiches.
Thanks for the comment Robbie! Enjoy your Reuben sandwich!
Great job, I love it. Thank you so much!
Ruben is my all time favorite sandwich. Great job!

That is one hell of a Reuben!
I can only enjoy these at home when I make them myself. Restaurants always make them soggy, and scrimp on corned beef!
Thanks for the compliment! I totally agree, homemade Reubens are the best!

Great job. I make mine exactly the same way. Thanks for validating.
You are welcome!
I wanted to make a rueben sandwich the other day, so I went to the store for ingredients, got home and realized I had forgotten the corned beef. Back to the store with my forgetful self! I am glad I watched this video, because I was thinking I should use Thousand Island dressing, but now I am going to make the Russian dressing. Great video. I love videos where there isn’t a lot of chatter, and the person just gets right down to it. Mission accomplished!
Glad you enjoyed the video Kana!
Thank you for a great demo/recipe!
Any time! Glad you like the recipe!
OMIGOSH... I haven’t had one of these in over eight years since I moved here to CALI from Michigan, thanks for this recipe and reminder🥪

Thank you Milagro!
Hello, Robin. I reviewed a number of on-line recipes for Reuben sandwiches. I chose yours, because of your recommendation to toast both sides of the rye bread, guidance on Russian dressing, etc. You did a great job, and the sandwiches were excellent, following the recipe exactly. My wife liked them, too. Her comment: "VERY good!" These were made with my home-made rye bread; I was anxious to employ them in Reuben sandwiches. THANKS for helping me to do so, so successfully! Duane Behrens, Ely, MN
Hi Duane, glad you enjoyed the Reuben sandwiches! The fact that you used your homemade rye bread must have made them out of this world delicious!! Thanks for stopping in to comment!
Just made this. Amazingly delicious. Didn't have shallots-used green onions instead. Upon tasting the dressing, it seemed missing something for my taste ( though I've never had Russian dressing) - a bit of sweetness? Since it was also fairly thin, I added a couple tablespoons of Miracle Whip which added a touch of sweetness and made it a bit thicker. REALLY good! Liked the idea of toasting both sides of the bread-you're so right-no sogginess. I made the whole thing on the griddle of my stove. One thing I do to make things easier/faster is to butter the grill rather than the bread. Also assembled corned beef, swiss cheese and saurkraut on the grill, when my bread was toasted, added dressing to both pieces and slapped it together. Covering the meat, cheese and kraut with a concave glass lid, made the cheese melt that it even ran onto the grill and browned the edges. OMG. Thank you so much for this recipe and new ideas. Will be making this often. The dressing will be good on other kinds of sandwiches, as well. Had to subscribe.
drooling 🤤
Great video, and I will definitely be trying this out soon! xxx
Hi Danielle, thank you! I hope you enjoy the Reuben!
I made great rubins last night. Never toasted bread on both sides. Great idea. Also I add cheese to bread and sauce next, so sauce won’t soak the bread.
Love the Russian dressing recipe. (substituted green peppers for challots)
You are making me so hungry.
It looks so delicious.
Thank you! Glad you liked the video!
I’m making your Reuben Right Now 😇🥪 Thank You So Much 😊
Awesome Mick!
I’m looking for a Sandwich Channel. All sandwiches. I love Ruben’s too.
What a great and informative clip!
Thank you very much! I appreciate you watching!
Hi. 🙂 ... Making this your way right now. Thank you for posting!
How did the sandwich turn out?
@@RockinRobinCooks It turned out great!! ... I've watched dozens of Reuben sandwich making videos, and I like your technique the best. Thanks for posting!
My mother is an excellent cook. Her name is also Robin. I knew id find a good video when i clicked on yours. Keep it up. Our younger generations need to keep these classics going!
Thanks Mathew!
I haven't found fresh ground horseradish anywhere in Bangkok but I just got some mail-order powdered horseradish to make the Russian dressing (also not available here) and I can hardly wait for the loaf of dark rye bread I ordered. Thanks for the easy to follow instructions. Good luck on your channel.
That looked delicious!
Thanks Terry!
@@RockinRobinCooks You're very welcome. Whatever you do never make a Reuben in sandwich maker. A few weeks ago I tried to take a shortcut and make some in our Proctor Silex Sandwich Maker. But they just tasted all squished and smushed lol. To me the best way is to broil them in the oven.
My mouth is watering watching this.never made it at home, always at a Deli, going to try it. thanks for sharing
Hi Anne, thanks for watching my Reuben sandwich video. Here is a playlist of all the sandwiches that are on my channel for your viewing pleasure! ruclips.net/video/gCkV6RDNbxE/видео.html

Hi Jade, you will love this one! Thanks for stopping in!
monster good demo. nicely shot. you make me wanna do one of these. got an editor now, but not enough time for compilation.
Very Nice, Thank You.
Glad you like it Ronald! Thanks for watching!
First time I ever made these and they came out perfect. The video was easy to learn from. I used the corned beef leftover from St. Patrick’s Day and Martha Stewart’s Russian Dressing which I already had made. Yummy! Thank you!
Awesome Mimi! Glad you enjoyed that Reuben sandwich!
Thanks for posting, from sunny Belfast 👍
You are welcome Davy!
To make a good homemade meal, we must put work into it. A good meal is made the hard way, but is worth it. Thank you for the great information and recipe. I learn best by seeing well made videos like yours. It's harder for me to learn by reading alone. Your version of Russian sauce is very nice. I used ⅛ teaspoon of Tabasco Sauce since I don't have any Sriracha. I also found that ¼ to ½ teaspoon Worcester sauce also works well. Both of these ingredients are very strong, and learned long ago to use them carefully. Even though I have a learning disability, your videos are easy to understand and learn from.
New subscriber. I love Reuben sandwich.

@@RockinRobinCooks hahaha I definitely will now that you’ve mentioned it, thank you!!!
My favorite sandwich 🥪
Yum! Thanks for stopping in Sally!
That looks like a great Reuben. Picture perfect. I like your homemade dressing. Need to try it out. Bet that would make for a good spread on many types of sandwiches. For St Patty's day I had to settle for cornbeef and swiss on a marble rye. Bread doesn't toast well in the microwave at work. Yes, cornbeef is slow cooked in the oven, crock pot or boiled, while pastrami is barbecued. Enjoy them both...
Hi John, you must try the dressing on the Rueben! I think you will love it!
Well done !
Thank you!
Robin made your Reuben sandwiches did not make my own thousand Island dressing store-bought still good the whole family loved it thank you ☺️
You are welcome Bryan! I appreciate the feedback! Be safe and stay healthy!
