Hi Robin! You asked about the difference between pastrami and corned beef. Both are brined for several days prior to cooking and therein lies the difference. Pastrami is traditionally smoked with low heat for several hours after being removed from the brine and corned beef is traditionally boiled/simmered for an hour or two after brining. Thanks for your quick and easy Reuben sandwich recipe!
Hi Robin, I am from Scotland and I made your Reuben sandwich, it was awesome and it's one of the best sandwiches i have ever had, thank you. Will definitely make it again 🏴
Okay. Update! The loaf of rye bread I got in the mail was outstanding. I made the sandwich almost exactly as you did and it came out the way a Reuben sandwich should taste. That Russian dressing was killer and made the sanwich extra special. I can hardly wait to put it on a hamburger. Thank you.
A great recipe! I do one tiny thing differently for any sandwich I make that has cheese slices. I put one slice of cheese on the top and one slice on the bottom so when it melts the meat is surrounded by a cheesy envelope. It also helps hold the sandwich together!
I've never made Reuben sandwiches before but I love them. I bought five flat cut corned beef briskets over St Patrick's Day and froze them. Tomorrow I'm going to have a go at making some sandwiches using your technique. Thanks for your easy to follow instructions on how to make cheese sandwiches.
Hello, Robin. I reviewed a number of on-line recipes for Reuben sandwiches. I chose yours, because of your recommendation to toast both sides of the rye bread, guidance on Russian dressing, etc. You did a great job, and the sandwiches were excellent, following the recipe exactly. My wife liked them, too. Her comment: "VERY good!" These were made with my home-made rye bread; I was anxious to employ them in Reuben sandwiches. THANKS for helping me to do so, so successfully! Duane Behrens, Ely, MN
Hi Duane, glad you enjoyed the Reuben sandwiches! The fact that you used your homemade rye bread must have made them out of this world delicious!! Thanks for stopping in to comment!
Thank you for this video! I'm making pastrami "from scratch" with a corned beef brisket this weekend and I got all the ingredients to make the Russian dressing and Reuben sandwiches. What I didn't have is a technique for actually making the sandwiches, but now I do. Reminds me of how my mom makes grilled cheese sandwiches.
I made great rubins last night. Never toasted bread on both sides. Great idea. Also I add cheese to bread and sauce next, so sauce won’t soak the bread.
My mother is an excellent cook. Her name is also Robin. I knew id find a good video when i clicked on yours. Keep it up. Our younger generations need to keep these classics going!
I haven't found fresh ground horseradish anywhere in Bangkok but I just got some mail-order powdered horseradish to make the Russian dressing (also not available here) and I can hardly wait for the loaf of dark rye bread I ordered. Thanks for the easy to follow instructions. Good luck on your channel.
Just made this. Amazingly delicious. Didn't have shallots-used green onions instead. Upon tasting the dressing, it seemed missing something for my taste ( though I've never had Russian dressing) - a bit of sweetness? Since it was also fairly thin, I added a couple tablespoons of Miracle Whip which added a touch of sweetness and made it a bit thicker. REALLY good! Liked the idea of toasting both sides of the bread-you're so right-no sogginess. I made the whole thing on the griddle of my stove. One thing I do to make things easier/faster is to butter the grill rather than the bread. Also assembled corned beef, swiss cheese and saurkraut on the grill, when my bread was toasted, added dressing to both pieces and slapped it together. Covering the meat, cheese and kraut with a concave glass lid, made the cheese melt that it even ran onto the grill and browned the edges. OMG. Thank you so much for this recipe and new ideas. Will be making this often. The dressing will be good on other kinds of sandwiches, as well. Had to subscribe.

To make a good homemade meal, we must put work into it. A good meal is made the hard way, but is worth it. Thank you for the great information and recipe. I learn best by seeing well made videos like yours. It's harder for me to learn by reading alone. Your version of Russian sauce is very nice. I used ⅛ teaspoon of Tabasco Sauce since I don't have any Sriracha. I also found that ¼ to ½ teaspoon Worcester sauce also works well. Both of these ingredients are very strong, and learned long ago to use them carefully. Even though I have a learning disability, your videos are easy to understand and learn from.
I wanted to make a rueben sandwich the other day, so I went to the store for ingredients, got home and realized I had forgotten the corned beef. Back to the store with my forgetful self! I am glad I watched this video, because I was thinking I should use Thousand Island dressing, but now I am going to make the Russian dressing. Great video. I love videos where there isn’t a lot of chatter, and the person just gets right down to it. Mission accomplished!
Just the way I used to make them at the restaurant EXCELLANT. The right way to do it . Thank you for the memories after all these years Imade one last night and was in 7th Heaven Thank you so much again EXCELLENT DEMONSTRATION
Hey Robin, we tried this tonight. Really great stuff !! The russian dressing is outstanding. Thanks for sharing. Kind regards from from Cologne, Germany
When i made this last week I absolutely loved it! Loved the Russian dressing with the kick of siracha! Love your videos when i have time to make food, keep doing what youre doing!
I am in heaven > I made Homemade Kraut for the last few months so I have real sour, sauerkraut, I last Night made home made sourdough and a Corned beef. Today we feast. I followed this Recipe and its incredible. YUMMY!!! Thanks for sharing.
Robin, your Russian dressing was absolutely wonderful! I followed your recipe for both the dressing and the sandwich and I am never going to buy bottled dressing again or pay an arm and a leg for a sandwich. Thank you so very much for sharing.
Oh, thanks, Robin....I made it this afternoon. I did the Russian dressing per your recipe, yes, even the shallot. We have a mustard that has a bit of horseradish in it, so used that in with all the other ingredients. Wow, that dressing really makes the sandwich. I also diced some green cabbage, added some Russian dressing to that and put that on the sandwich, too. Oh, my just wonderful!!! p.s. used pastrami instead of corned beef.
YUUUMMMMYYY!! I dig the way you make the Ruben. My mouth was watering. it is one of my favorite sandwiches. And, now I will be making it myself. Thanks so much for sharing.
Robin, my daughter's and I always get a nice Corn beef and cook it ourself..we make enough to feed a family of six. I like using the same dressing as you do..We actually buy 2 corn beef and continue the celebration through the week..Of course with the dinner we make I used loads of cabbage carrots and potatoes.
That looks like a great Reuben. Picture perfect. I like your homemade dressing. Need to try it out. Bet that would make for a good spread on many types of sandwiches. For St Patty's day I had to settle for cornbeef and swiss on a marble rye. Bread doesn't toast well in the microwave at work. Yes, cornbeef is slow cooked in the oven, crock pot or boiled, while pastrami is barbecued. Enjoy them both...
Definitely gonna try this is love a reuben sandwich and you made this super simple and in today's economy better to learn and do yourself than pay for.someone else to make it for you that's how I've learned everything from Italian oriental Mexican ❤❤
