  • The commonly held view in Islamic legal thought that twice the number of women need to witness to equal a man's witness implies that Islam considers a woman intellectually deficient. Q.2:282-283 discusses the writing of financial agreements and mentions obtaining witnesses among men and women, stating that if one woman errs in her testimony, the other would remind her. This video explores the meaning and implications of these verses through actual cases of women's witness and testimony from the lifetime of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and early centuries of Islam.

    Tafsir Ibn Kathir:
(And if there are not two men (available), then a man and two women) this requirement is only for contracts that directly or indirectly involve money. Allah requires that two women take the place of one man as witness, because of the woman's shortcomings, as the Prophet described. Muslim recorded in his Sahih that Abu Hurayrah said that the Messenger of Allah said, (O women! Give away charity and ask for forgiveness, for I saw that you comprise the majority of the people of the Fire.)
One eloquent woman said, "O Messenger of Allah! Why do we comprise the majority of the people of the Fire'' He said, (You curse a lot and you do not appreciate your mate. I have never seen those who have shortcoming in mind and religion controlling those who have sound minds, other than you.) She said, "O Messenger of Allah! What is this shortcoming in mind and religion'' He said, (As for the shortcoming in her mind, the testimony of two women equals the testimony of one man, and this is the shortcoming in the mind. As for the shortcoming in the religion, woman remains for nights at a time when she does not pray and breaks the fast in Ramadan).

"The women asked, 'O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! What is deficient in our intelligence and religion?' He said, 'Is not the evidence of two women equal to the witness of one man?' They replied in the affirmative. He said, ' *This is the deficiency in her intelligence* .'" -- Sahih Bukhari.

      Mistranslating
Naqis in Arabic means concession not deficiency
She has been given an emotional, support or concession over intellect by providing other support in the group of men Where the huge group of men support each, other and she being only one among them with a support of other are still less
And lastly read the full texts of the hadith with context and situation and summary and crux of saying what he mean to say Don't take just one statement out of it that too misinterpreted and mistranslated
      Fuck your male dominant mind

In Islam, the testimony of a woman is EQUAL to a man,in all cases! The 2 women as a witness are required only for debt issue and the 2nd women is only as ASISSTANT,if the 1st women forgets something! And if the 1st women doesnt forget, than her testimony ALONE is VALID and INDEPENDENT!

Why didn't they include that bit then?
Surah Al-baqara 282: (For anyone who wants to read)
O you who have believed, when you contract a debt for a specified term, write it down. And let a scribe write [it] between you in justice. Let no scribe refuse to write as Allah has taught him. So let him write and let the one who has the obligation dictate. And let him fear Allah, his Lord, and not leave anything out of it. But if the one who has the obligation is of limited understanding or weak or unable to dictate himself, then let his guardian dictate in justice. And bring to witness two witnesses from among your men. And if there are not two men [available], then a man and two women from those whom you accept as witnesses - so that if one of the women errs, then the other can remind her. And let not the witnesses refuse when they are called upon. And do not be [too] weary to write it, whether it is small or large, for its [specified] term. That is more just in the sight of Allah and stronger as evidence and more likely to prevent doubt between you, except when it is an immediate transaction which you conduct among yourselves. For [then] there is no blame upon you if you do not write it. And take witnesses when you conclude a contract. Let no scribe be harmed or any witness. For if you do so, indeed, it is [grave] disobedience in you. And fear Allah . And Allah teaches you. And Allah is Knowing of all things.

*The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “I have not seen any lacking in reason and religious commitment but (at the same time) more able to rob the wisdom of the wise, except one of you [women].” They said: How are we lacking in religious commitment and reason, O Messenger of Allaah? He said: “Is not the testimony of a woman like half the testimony of a man?” They said: Yes. He said: “That is how she is lacking in reason. And when she menstruates, does she not refrain from praying and fasting?” They said: Yes. He said: “That is how she is lacking in religious commitment*

      I'll explain.
*"The woman is equal to the man in truthfulness, honesty, and piety; otherwise, if it is feared that she will forget or misremember, she is strengthened with another like herself. That makes them stronger than a single man or the likes of him. There is no question that the benefit of the doubt given to the testimony of Umm Darda and Umm ‘Atiyyah is stronger than the benefit of the doubt given to a single man without them or the likes of them."*-Ibn al-Qayyim (Islamic jurisprudent consultant, theologian, and spiritual writer)

@@MuhmmedNadeem-cy2tj A woman has no standing in a court of law vs a man one on one in numerous Muslim countries. This is factual, my friend. No one can change this fact. It is a fact. No matter how someone tries to tone it down or skirt around it. I believe that women are oppressed under Sharia law....even the Muslim scriptures say that more women go to hell than men. Women are still stoned in the 21st century. It's pretty sad, really.

Sure, but why 2 women to 1 man? Why not simply base it on competence? Why not say, if a women is credible then 1 is enough, and if that 1 man is not credible, bring 2.

I found the the video to be very well thought out, and I couldnt really quibble with any of the things said. But it seems to me the real question is this: why does the quran not contain the thorough explanation given in the video? Why give a short phrase which leads the reader to the opposite conclusion?

    • @enhancednero5896

But it does, the verse came in a matter of finance which during that time, men were more competent and well-versed in and that a women is needed as a guarantee but if she can remember clearly then its okay. I think that as time pass we (including Muslims) kind of forget that the Qur'an isn't something like a textbook but is actually more like statements or sayings, dialogues, between God and the believer. In the Qur'an only God's words are recorded and not when the believer asks it, so some context may be missing or forgotten or compiled separately (in the Hadith). And the reason for this when the Qur'an is compiled without the context or compiled separately is because they didn't want to merge God's words with man's viewpoint, because man's viewpoint isn't perfect. Hope this answers your question and best of luck in finding the truth

      Test from god.
Why can't god just show himself?
Cause it is a test. Look at the creations that god created.
Same way with the verse. Test to see if people would twist this verse for their beliefs, power, or conservativeness than using hadiths to see how it was used.

@@ragnarlothbrok4827 Let me ask you this. If you were writing a book to instruct people that you wanted them to be sure to understand, would you:
      A. give the kind of message that the man in the video gave.
      or
      B. create a message that required interpretation outside of itself in order to be completely understood.
"That’s why it’s necessary for us to study and understand the context of each verse rather than interpreting it ourselves."
It seems to me you have no choice but to 'interpret' the verse. Either you have to do it or you have to rely on someone else that has done it. Either way a man has to do some interpreting since the full meaning is simply not in the text explicitly which was my point.
The fact that men have to 'interpret' these incomplete messages to get any meaning would explain very well why there currently exists a wide continuum of interpretations form those of Isis to those of the man in the video.
