      Do you use some special eraser for adding white upon charcoal... I always have to go other way round defining whites first and then adding black..

      hi i have a question, first of all before asking the question, i wanted to say that this approach is for the people who have really high level of patience and can see figures or maybe even final work and sometimes even for them it may get exaggerating (because i go with this approach with most of the time and yes i fall in that exaggeration trap).
      now the question is wouldn't you recommend vine charcoal in stead of compressed for this approach?

    • @ThePortraitArt
      @ThePortraitArt  6 лет назад +1

      vine charcoal can be more easily accidentally smudged. But you can potentially use it, just gotta be more careful.

    • @vivekchoudhary8745

      @@ThePortraitArt thank you so much for the advice.. 💜💚

    • @ThePortraitArt
      @ThePortraitArt  6 лет назад +3

      @@vivekchoudhary8745 very soft compressed charcoal and vine charcoal both work well. There are some trade off. Vine charcoal is a bit too touch sensitive. One accidental smudge and the drawing is messed up. Compressed charcoal is more resilient but also takes more work to lift. I encourage people to try both and see which works for them the best.

    Sorry but I can´t agree. This is one of the hardest ways to start a portrait, especially if you are an beginner, cause it´s an abstract way. To start dark and light up from time to time is more difficult than to start light and dark up.
