Fun fact: as Greece, if Bulgaria wants to take Thrace and Macedonia, it won’t actually let you refuse it. They just take it. Great game design. It even prevents you from forming Byzantium
My favourite is when going historocal Metaxas route in a historical game, I decided that Id do the focus that gives me a puplet war goal on Bulgaria, figured I could use them as a buffer and it wss one less axis minor to deal with. I attacked, won quickly, ouppeted them, then they promptly took a focus which made them not only join the Axis, but magically free themselves. I spent the next year of the war desperately defending the bulk of axis hordes in the mountains around Thessaloniki, thank god the Brits were ahead in the naval game in the Med (though they lost all of North Africa, including the Suez) so they had taken Zara and Italian Albania, and the Italians never justified on Yugoslavia. Eventually Id grinded down the Axis enough and managed to build my forces enough so that I could start pushing them back into Bulgaria, I'd capitualted Bulgaria with the help of British and Free French units and were threatening Romania, then Germany declared war on Yugoslavia for Slovenia, and I had to fall back to those same mountains (and actually had to defend the Eprius-Thessaloniki line) and wait till Barbarossa so that we could take back the Balkans. Not only after the war I not get Bulgaria my former puppet (a communist coup meant that all the land went to comintern Bulgaria), I didnt get Albania which I occupied with my own forces, the Dodecanese which I had invaded myself using my own fleet and troops. All I got was Sicily, and fucking GREEK EAST GERMANY/PRUSSIA because the Soviets were too busy annexing my occupied territories and North Africa to creat East Germany. Fucking hell paradox.
So the AI Vichy France did the focus path to turn back into Free France and teleport behind Germany? That's actually a lot more entertaining than "lol the greeks brought byzantium back"

Fun fact: as Greece, if Bulgaria wants to take Thrace and Macedonia, it won’t actually let you refuse it. They just take it. Great game design. It even prevents you from forming Byzantium
My favourite is when going historocal Metaxas route in a historical game, I decided that Id do the focus that gives me a puplet war goal on Bulgaria, figured I could use them as a buffer and it wss one less axis minor to deal with.
I attacked, won quickly, ouppeted them, then they promptly took a focus which made them not only join the Axis, but magically free themselves.
I spent the next year of the war desperately defending the bulk of axis hordes in the mountains around Thessaloniki, thank god the Brits were ahead in the naval game in the Med (though they lost all of North Africa, including the Suez) so they had taken Zara and Italian Albania, and the Italians never justified on Yugoslavia.
Eventually Id grinded down the Axis enough and managed to build my forces enough so that I could start pushing them back into Bulgaria, I'd capitualted Bulgaria with the help of British and Free French units and were threatening Romania, then Germany declared war on Yugoslavia for Slovenia, and I had to fall back to those same mountains (and actually had to defend the Eprius-Thessaloniki line) and wait till Barbarossa so that we could take back the Balkans.
Not only after the war I not get Bulgaria my former puppet (a communist coup meant that all the land went to comintern Bulgaria), I didnt get Albania which I occupied with my own forces, the Dodecanese which I had invaded myself using my own fleet and troops.
All I got was Sicily, and fucking GREEK EAST GERMANY/PRUSSIA because the Soviets were too busy annexing my occupied territories and North Africa to creat East Germany.
Fucking hell paradox.
