That team was incredible one can only wonder what would have been if there was someone challenging them...Im glad I got to see this when it happened. I dont think we'll see another group like this..Thanks Gentlemen

The UCLA team with Steve Lewis and Danny Everett was pretty bad ass...

The team featured in this video was obviously incredible, but replace the first leg with Lewis or Everett (not sure if he was still competing in 1993?) and it would have been slightly better. It would have been 3 former Olympic Gold medalists in the event, one of which held the WR at the time, and the last member of the team "only" won a silver medal in '88 and held the WR himself for 11 years until it was broken by the guy who ran anchor.
Congratulations to Kenya for winning a silver medal against the best ever 4x400m relay team.
4:54 Usually these kinds of predictions don't age well. Butch's has held up and then some, as the record currently stands 27 years later.

Unbelievable quartet. Special mention to Reynolds and his impressive stride.
And Butch Reynolds was right almost 30 years later still no one is broken it. The only team that came close was 2008 with Lashawn Merritt 44 flat Angelo Taylor 43.9 David Neville 44.1, Jeremy Warner 43.2.
This record stands to this day. Now the longest standing mens track record. Just unbelievable. Johnson ran 42.91 that's insane. Butch Reynolds did 43.36. Just unreal. This record could still be standing in 2033.
That's highly unlikely. I mean it could be, but it probably won't be.

@@timmytheinventor4746 We're still waiting. Andrew Valmon coached my son several years at one of his summer camps. First run on the 40 my son ran just barely over 4.6. Then I watched coach Valmon whisper something to him. Next time he ran a sub 4.4. It's now been 31 years. I'm not saying it'll never be broken but this has now passed Lee Evans 400 meter world record from '68 which I believe stood a little over 20 years as a seismic event in the world of human endeavers.
A 5 and a half second gap is just insane.
I remember seeing this relay, 10years old. A Stadium, so dead silent you could hear the Grass grow exploding into so much cheering with the start. And in top a fabulous Bronze for Germany.
In 2000 Sydney Olympics 4 × 400 m U.S. relay team was stripped of their medals after Pettigrew admitted that he had used drugs during that time.
I'm sure at that time in the World championship in Stuttgart 93 , he was also a cheater runner, not only him but most Athletes, they were robots, it's only a question of time , truth will be revealed, especially with the blood banks ، the blood of the Athletes it's still stored and preserved for later use to catch the cheaters 😉.
I love when they were all trying to celebrate at the end of their race and Michael Johnson had to put his hands on his knees for a second like "I'm tired." lol

Now 28 year old record. I’m a huge fan and study of track and field. Ran when I was young. Not sure this record can or will be broken in this lifetime. Valmon at 44.7 was a good opener, but not exceptional. Watts was very solid, then you have Butch and MJ with blistering legs and owners of the two best splits in history. To this day the 2nd and 3rd best mark individually. MJ far and away the greatest 400m runner of all time. Hell it took even MJ years to break Butch’s original 43.29 record.
This time was actually broken in 1998 but got removed when two of the members popped for dopping. Jeremy Wariner has the second fastest split with 42.93 and the only other person besides MJ to go under 43 on a split. He holds 3 of the top 6 splits in history. Just imagine if Reynolds had started (43.29 record for years), handed to Watts (43.1 best split and 3rd all time), hands to Wariner (42.93 Split and 2nd of all time), and hands to MJ for a 42.91 second anchor. 2:52.23 Literally would not be broken for half a century at least.

I’d of bet my left leg that it would of taken decades at least to break that record, dam! The quad you mentioned would set an amazing time if they could have run together. I love the 400 and 4x400. That’s a tough ass race! I’m curious to see what WVN will do coming up soon In Tokyo. I still can’t believe he broke MJ’s record. I thought it was pretty much unbreakable.

This is one record I cannot see being broken in my lifetime. It is hard to assemble a team of 4 fast 400 runners. This is the last one standing MJ.

43.57 average leg. A wow moment. But could actually be broken at worlds in 2023 or in Paris 2024.

If the 400 split was correct, that Valmon ran 44.7, then Quincy ran 43.3, not 43.7. I would have loved to see MJ run an 800.
