He's Right! So what I noticed with Bass Pro combo deals. I like the reel or pole but not the mat h up. So I will buy the combo with in mind that the reel being most desirable or expensive part. Then buy a different rod just for that reel, then use that combo rod with a different reel I have or plan on buying. When you do this practice you get a deal because of over stock and a second pole set up exactly the way you want it. In a perfect world you might find 2 combo deals that you only need to switch the reels. Now that's the REAL DEAL, lol, punds.

Buy only Aluminium frame reels and don't buy combo's. Excellent Advise! 👍
I'd like to ad that aluminium frame spinning reels are also better. They are just becoming hard to find at a good price.

If youre a casual fisherman who hasnt figured out yet his style of fishing you can buy the cheap stuff but if you became serious and want quality reel that will last you long, then its not bad to pay more.

I agree that the aluminum frame is better quality, but I like the graphite frame reels for bass fishing. I appreciate the light weight of graphite when I'm making several hundred casts in a day of fishing. Fishing reels have come a long way since I started bass fishing 50 something years ago.

I am an old fart and fish over 200 days per year. I also have a drawer full of Diawa, Shimano and especially Garcia ABU reels with worn out pawls and or worm gears, some just became hard to cast, etc, etc. ABU reels are no longer made in Sweden, they are made in China and so says right on them and they are also full of plastic internals. I know this well as I do fix them if I can get parts. Thumb bars will suddenly not flip back up etc. The cost of a new Diawa or Shimano such as those I have is 300 bucks and up. As for the life of these expensive reels I give them two years, within two years especially tossing deep diving crankbaits they will all fail. Slow rolling a big one ounce Colorado Spinner also takes its toll on reels.
So lately I have been using off brand and non mainstream reels that I can find that do have some type of aluminum or metal alloy frame. They seem to cast as well and hold up just as long as the famous high dollar reels.
I will not mention any names or brands, however I have at present some reels that cost on average from 70 to 40 bucks and they work and hold up just fine.
I am not at all interested in all the hype and garbage of 12 magnets and fancy internal brakes that supposedly do all the casting for you. I have an educated thumb and only in high wind will I sometimes tighten the spool tension a bit, all the rest of that stuff is all set to zero.
So any reasonably priced reel today with an aluminum frame is the best choice and if it lasts two seasons just toss it and buy another one. I saw a reel the other day at a Bass Pro Shop and it was over $700 bucks, for that price it best cast itself, catch the fish and if I do choose to keep a couple to eat it had best fillet them too. Ridiculous price on new main stream reels.
    Cheers
    Kit
