We need World Athletics to be promoting events like Night of the 10ks. It's a super well run meet, and promoting successful local events creates a grassroots movement.
Anything grassroots would unfortunately be pretty antagonistic towards World Athletics. The more elite fields they can foster for the Diamond League, the better for them overall. I do love that event tho, I'd love to attend myself one day!

The problem with the Diamond League is it's just a travelling circus, in town for one night only. Hard to get excited or worth travelling to when so many top athletes won't even be there. Perhaps a solution is to think of 'majors' like in tennis and golf. London can easily justify a 2-day event (even 3 so there could be heats) held at the same weekend every year. Now look at 3 or 4 other major cities across the world having the same place in the calendar every year. If other cities host one-nighters, that's fine.

Another great video. Such a great channel. Regarding the field events. I went to the Paris Olympics and the field events were REALLY impressive. The javelin was incredible. I was specifically excited about the 1500m( I got to see Cole win!), but throughout the athletics events I was very surprised by how great the field events were to watch.
Definitely agree about the javelin which can be enjoyed by everyone in the stadium. I was at the pole vault evening, but alas at the wrong end of the stadium (i.e. finishing line) so could really only follow it on the screen. And there lies part of the problem for field events - spectators won't often be close to the action they want to see. Tough one to fix. Perhaps move all the jumps (and shot put) into a smaller venue?

I don't blame some big names for waiting it out tho. Give this room to grow and make changes as it goes forward. 2. The dual categories - This is supposed to be more than just a regular track meet. GST has signed many of the very best in their events. There will be few challengers that can actually beat them in their specialty events. Watching them deal with the challenge of competing in a relatively similar race for the best combined score potentially makes it far more entertaining and competitive, and they're paid well to do so. Many 100M hurdlers want no part of the 400M hurdles but wont mind running a 100... which they already do in a way. The same is especially true for 400Mh, many of whom already run their nation's 4x4. Also, as a high schooler who just wants the opportunity to run competitively in college and be given a chance to develop, the whole NIL thing and new roster size limit is deeply unsettling, like I don't think college runners need to get paid, they just need a chance to do what they love. Based on what we know so far I doubt GST is going to survive a single season much less "save" track. It's not only the racing model that is dubious, backing up to race twice over three days might be fine for the short sprints but is not going to be easy for the middle distance runners. Plus, the model of the field racing each other over two different events is just stupid. We're going to be so bored watching the same 4 athletes race each other 8 times over the GST season, especially because apart from maybe the 400m women and the 100mh women the fields are not that good. But you say there will be challengers! Maybe. Even having SML as the poster child is dumb, it's not like she's a major attraction now otherwise track and field wouldn't need saving in the first place. None of the stars you'd expect to see given they claim to have the best have signed, no Noah, ShaCarri, Letsile Tebogo, Holloway, Wanyonyi, Ingebritsen, Kipyegon. On top of that the business model doesn't hold water. They have seed money through Winner's Alliance but so far no on-going sponsorship or media deal with less than 6 months to go? The meets are going to be held at small stadiums with low ticket prices?? (I actually thought MJ was pranking us when I heard that news). Someone told me the contracts require other meets to pay for GST athletes to be released for them to race elsewhere. Is the DL going to do that? I doubt it. On top of that I'm yet to see that any of the results are going to receive accreditation from WA since in an interview Shamier Little said she would have to race in other events apart from GST to maintain her ranking with WA. This will be a circus not a sporting event so don't be surprised if MJ presses a big red button to start races and the athletes wear animal costumes to compete.

I want to also comment on Athlos. I thought it was well done however how do you criticize MJ for not having field events in GST but let Alexis Ohanian off the hook. I wholly agree about the gender equity in track and field. Indeed its been pretty much the gold standard in sports for while. Special deals and appearance fees aside (favoring a male or female)... pay, honor and respect is equal across both genders. The reason for this is because they've always been done together. T&F is also not apologetic about "women being women" (shorter hurdles, lighter throwing implements). Its the level of competition within each gender's discipline that matters and makes both compelling. The WNBA should take note and lower the rim. Yet Athlos has opened a Pandora's box in that investors who may've previously considered having a focused all-male event but did not for fear of backlash, can now do so. WOMEN WILL NOT WIN in that argument for the mere fact that the biggest sponsors of such events are athletic companies who typically make 2/3 of their revenue from men. This is relevant because whether people want to admit it or not, what is considered "better" is too often based in how much money is pumped into its marketing and promotion.

Lol saying the commentary is just "two white dudes" throwing that buzz phrase out there that has absolutely no meaning. Those guys have more passion for the sport than anyone going but you want to put some random person in there who has dark skin lol? Don't try and ruin it for the rest of us just because you hate yourself lol
100%, don't appreciate RunnerBoi's white guilt and wokeness leaking into his videos. It wouldn't fly with any other races. Completely out of place for this type of video. Pathetic behaviour RunnerBoi
Someone didn't read the very obviously, complimentary annotations above the pictures of them when making this comment... Also calling that a "buzz phrase" is such a terminally online observation to make lmfao, get real dude
@RunnerBoi not really a response is it. Why do you not want to hear certain commentators just because of the colour of their skin?
@@DK-tt1zt I never said that????? Also stop liking your own comments, I know people like you duo/triple account just to make your points seem more intelligent than they actually are lol
@RunnerBoi another non response, also, I have no other account. Why would you prefer to change the most knowledgeable people in the sport who have been doing their job perfectly for 15 years because of their skin colour? Why do you hate yourself?
I like seeing athletes have to compete more. The event pairings are too rigid. Both women and men 800m runners are MUCH better at 400 than mile. (No more 1500 bs-MILE).
Distance,I got you. Mile,3 mile/5k and steeplechase. Top 4 in each go to 2 mile A final. Next 4 B final.
3:38 - what does the commentators being white have to do with anything? Didn't realise you were just another "woke" youtuber, unsubscribed.
You must be one of the 'snowflakes' I keep hearing about.
I think you’ll find snowflakes general belong in the woke camp
@@JoshuaTozer Oh it's like that? Very well, runnerboi. I'm gone.
@stefanus140 Nah, there's no bigger snowflakes than the right. Everything is woke to you babies.
