Even if Hermione's colour had never been mentioned in the books at all, it's still shown ON two of them. The front cover of Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban (well, the version on my copy) shows Hermione sat behind Harry on Buckbeak, and the front of Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows (again, on my copy) has a picture of Harry, Ron and Hermione riding the wave of fake gold out of Bellatrix Lestrange's vault. Both pictures show her to be white.

It's not representation or actually doing anything. It's just afterthought diversity and tokenism. She also said Hermione couldve been black when Hermione clearly wasnt in the book based on her description. Whenever there is a black character she points it out in the book. Angelina Johnson "a tall black girl" Dean Thomas " a black boy" Lee Jordan "a black boy" It was like she didnt want to admit she wrote a really white book which I dont blame her for since she wrote it a long time ago but this is not how you solve diversity by making one character black in your play who we know isnt.

      Same.
But it does bring about a plothole. In Chamber of Secrets, we learn that Hogwarts founder Salazar Slytherin installed a Chamber of Secrets inside the castle, left it locked, for his descendent to open again in the future. The chamber's entrance is in the girls' bathroom, and the monster moves through the plumbing (supposedly). It contradicts the idea that wizards didn't have plumbing in Hogwarts when it was founded.

@@EditsByLyra I really care a little about that. It's not canon just because she said it. But we can make theories for the sake of it, and I have two. 1 - Hogwarts always had bathrooms and pipes, because of money and privilege so only common people had to make poop disappear (like the Starks in GoT have a complex and ancient heat system in Winterfell, while the rest of the north has to rely on fire or freeze). 2 - Hogwarts didn't have bathrooms, but more than one heir of Slytherin went to Hogwarts, maybe not only as a student but also as a teacher, so one of them could have their hands in the new plumbing system. We already know that bathroom can't be ancient as the school itself

People seem to forget the books are told from Harry's pov. So of course he never talks to Dumbledore about his love life (that would not be appropriate at all). Sure some teachers may mention a spouse but that is assuming that they are in a relationship currently. This is not weird that it wasn't mentioned in the books, as why would it be. Now it should be a major part in the FB movies as they are both in it, which they can still fix in the next movie.

My opinion about Hermione's skin color greatly depends on how we were used to seeing her always. The Hermione we grew up to know was white, no one can butcher that fact. Even before the movies came out, people made up this white girl with the brown bushy hair and buck teeth, while reading the character. The movies installed Emma Watson as Hermione Granger. The people who grew up with both the movies and the books, always read the books keeping the film cast in their mind.
Maybe, maybe, if they would have cast a brown or black Hermione in the films, people would not have had that many issues.
People had a hard time adapting to the fact that the original cast is not going to reprise their roles, and casting somebody who looks poles apart from Emma (Noma is absolutely amazing and beautiful tho), just gave them a harder time. And the PR team of Rowling made sure that a hell amount of backlash doesn't happen. Imagine her pissing all the population of the world by commenting on the two most pressing issues on the planet, LGBTQ+ community rights & Racism. She would have been finished.
Anyways, I always like to believe that the Harry Potter Universe consists of the 7 books, the Hogwarts Library, and films based on that. Cursed Child doesn't exist for me. Peace Out.

Aside from Rowling (correctly pronounced "Rolling," I've heard), the only famous, best-selling author I've ever known who second-guessed their novels was when Agatha Christie said she regretted was continuing to have to write about Hercule Poirot, whom she came to detest, and had to keep writing about him because the fans liked him. I've stated a number of times that Rowling should keep her mouth shut and let her work stand as it was. I've never thought Dumbledore's sex life should have any bearing on the stories, any more than some gay friends who loved telling how various actors were gay. Besides, Dumbledore is dead, isn't he? As a disclaimer, I stopped being a big fan some time after the last book so I'm not here defending the critical aspects of her work just for the sake of defending it, but for the sake of what I appreciate the most in life: rationality. Rationally we can't apply today's criteria to a series created 20 years ago by someone that was already an adult at the time (so a grown up in different times than ours). She actually teached to young people tolerance and other good things, we just developed it better than her, as it should be. I see her level of rapresentation as a good step during the transition between what was before and what we have today. Without middle steps we don't get up the stairs, so we can and should be critic about her work but, as we say here, we shouldn't spit in the dish we ate from.

I think not, for neither our sexuality nor our gender determine our merits as a person, but rather our personal traits and beliefs, of which Rowling described many of Dumbledore's in the books. We should also remember that Rowling first revealed Dumbledore's sexuality upon being asked if he had ever found love. This love was with Grindelwald, a non overly essential relationship in the HP series. But what about the Crimes of Grinderwald? That movie was the perfect place to show their relationship, and guess what, they didn't. I'm obviously not expecting for them to be in the films like : 'oh hey Albus, how's your gay lover and you doing?' But some sort of hint would be nice, maybe a flashback to the two? Why people don't like the whole Grinderwald x Dumbledore thing, is because she had the perfect opportunity to show that she indeed just never told us about their relationship, but she didn't. You may deem them as unimportant, but it would add a lot to the drama and the weight of the battle with Grinderwald, maybe add some flavor to the otherwise bland movie.

@@smilesedgeworth7143 Hey Dominic. The criticism against JK Rowling's revelation of Dumbledore's sexuality started a decade before the Fantastic Beasts movies were released. I thank you for your comment, but it touches a different topic: the quality of the second Fantastic Beasts movie. Regarding this new topic, as the series of 5 movies hasn't finished yet, it would be advisable to wait until concluding an opinion about how the franchise represents Dumbledore's sexuality (if at all).

Cant really use nowadays standards on JK... like, a decade ago being "gay" or "racially diverse" were not so "important" as nowadays (as in media importance, not talking about the people). People weren't as sensitive towards those issues either... she literally admitted that she did not disclose Dumbledore being gay for fear of being punched in the face by fans. The only thing I'd hold her accountable for is The Cursed Child. But, oh well.
PS: after so many years, I'd find it understandable if she didn't remember specifying ONCE that Hermione was white. People need to calm down. The books were awesome, thank her for the nice childhood/adulthood memories and move on.

also about dumbledore sexuality, I think fans are making such a big deal of it (I'm talking about Harry Potter only, not Fantastic beasts). He was gay, it was kind of implicit in the books but
    1. the books are written from harry's perspective and students don't discuss love life with their teachers.
    2. It doesn't come to the plot (in harry potter, probably in fantastic beasts it does but I haven't watched them very carefully)
