    I'm probably going to get some flak for saying that the new iPad Pro is only marginally better. But that's just how I feel. ヾ(⌐■_■)ノ♪

      Teoh Yi Chie maybe it's because I use Samsung amoled screens but the refresh rate didn't seem that impressive!

      While the extra storage and processing power are enticing, my 1st Gen 12.9" is still clicking along nicely and see no reason to upgrade this time around. I think the bigger iPad news was iOS 11 and perhaps that is where the newer spec'd iPads may be noticeably different.

    • @rougecrown
      @rougecrown 7 лет назад +1

      Yep. I think that's accurate. However I upgraded anyway to the smaller size iPad because i just can't lug the 12.9 inch around everyday.

    Bought one of these on eBay that came with a bunch of accessories for around 500$USD and a 1st Gen Apple Pencil for 75$. I don't really feel the need to use any of the newer iPad Pros since this is still a pretty great tool to use for art and works with iPadOS 14 as of writing this comment.

    I had a 10th gen iPad ruclips.net/user/postUgkxhcEDB3r-OJ3_X5hQzr7k1ZofTQy1ao_U . Felt it getting pretty slow at times even after doing a reset. So I am using that as a tablet for my 5 year old son and got this 9th gen version. MUCH faster, a little slimmer, smaller bezels, all around a leap forward. Plus, for the price that’s about $130-$150 cheaper than a current new model this is a nice deal. I look forward to the M-series CPUs coming into iPads which will really help future proof these tablets better but these latest CPUs are pretty strong and should do better to last several years with no compromises.

    can't believe your previous iPad pro already broke-- it worries me wether I should invest in their products or just go for cintiq...it's just so expensive if it's lifespan is just some couple years and it's troublesome to take it to the warranty every time it shuts down..but I appreciate your honesty in your review! makes me reconsider and rethink whether spending money on apple is actually worthwhile

    It's 2020 i know but I'm getting my first iPad and it's this unit. I'm really excited 💖 I have a lil fomo since it's the prev gen but I couldn't justify shelling out $1k+ for the 2018 iPad and I'm not a pro artist I'm just a hobbyist. Thank you for this review 🙏🏻💖

      @@tobi8706 I haven't played games on it. For my purposes performance is fine. You'll probably find older reviews of the iPad 12.9 2nd gen for gaming. I've just started using it so will wait and so about video editing. For me, the convenience of being able to edit video on the 12.9 with Luma Fusion or iMovie while relaxing in the evening compensates for any slower rendering speeds compared to today's M1 iPads. I just enjoy using the iPad.

    Wonderful review, well spoken, and concise.
    ...and this is the best part; you are also an artist!
    I have been illustrating on Samsung Note Pro 12.2 tablet and disappointed a new one is not going to be released. I use Sketchbook Pro (older version). I had been yearning for better resolution for more detailed work. The only thing holding me back from iPad was the exact same thing which happened to you; they want it to be a disposable product. That is a shame.
    However, I just might buy it, to see if it can motivate me to get back to my drawings...

    Hi Teoh, flak or not, i would rather get your honest opinion on everything you review instead of the politically correct version (aka "no flak"!) - that is part of the beauty of your reviews! People need to understand that your review is your opinion based on the way you use/d the item and the purpose for which you bought (or borrowed!). I am not an apple fan. I had their phone and could not wait to get rid of it. We have iPads galore at home due initially to curiosity and later by inheriting them from work and school. I do love their ipods though and have been using them for years. But i have to admit i have been looking at the 12.9 ipad in the past few months looking for a reason to get one (and replace the old little Galaxy Pro Tab!) Your review is very timely and will cost me money :-) Thank you for taking the time to film and post this!

I hope it isn’t too late but if you’re in the US and used a credit card to make the purchase, try contacting the credit card company. They often automatically add an extra year of warranty to your purchase as a free service and can help you take care of your issue.

    Im torn between getting the 10.5" & 12.9". I like the 10.5" for the portability and to be able to sketch while holding it in one hand, but i like the 12.9" for the extra screen size. I currently use an ipad mini, so either size would be a huge upgrade to me. Wish there was an ipad mini pro so i could use the Apple Pencil with it. If there was, i'd probably end up getting the 12.9" for the extra screen size and an ipad mini pro for when i wanted to be more mobile. But since there is no indication from Apple about them ever releasing an ipad mini pro, i think getting the 10.5" is the happy medium. I don't think i'd get both the 10.5" AND the 12.9" tho. That would be overkill. Apple sure makes it tough to decide! Great channle and art work by the way! 👍🏼

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  7 лет назад

      +Regan Darcy The 10.5 should probably be more suitable for you since you like the portability of the iPad Mini.

      +MrM00stache BS. They have the highest customer satisfaction rates in relevant surveys AND the higher resale value. You don't retain resale value with products that "break". Tons of people still use their iPads 2 or other such 5+ year old models...

      +DrawTimeInc > That's ridiculous I was think about buying one but I think I'm just gonna get an xp pen instead.
      Because those don't break? Don't base your decisions in what some random people on the internet post, check a model for yourself. iPads have sold 100s of millions, obviously some production runs will be faulty, you can always fix under warranty. If it happens out of warranty, well, it could also happen to any other brand out of warranty.

    pros: desktop software, workstation, pen
    cons: not portable

    Uh... There are LOTS of laptops that can use a pen.
    You might want to check out the new Surface Pro 2017 - the fifth model in the series (its been around for over five years). And the current model has a pen (optional) that can do tilt and 4096 pressure levels.. .also include an integrated eraser.
    The Surface Laptop is a more traditional laptop design and can use the same pen - but doesn't support tilt.
    The Surface Book is a combination laptop/tablet where you can detach the screen and use it as a tablet. Also uses the same pen and can support tilt.
    Samsung makes several similar laptops including the Samsung Book 9.

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  7 лет назад

      Don't be too caught up by the marketing. Ultimately, it will come down to the actual user experience when you're drawing with the device. Just because you can draw on the screen doesn't mean you may want to. It's an awkward experience. If it's just to write some quite notes, draw simplified diagrams, it's fine. But definitely not for drawing longer. Again, I've to emphasize, you have to try it for yourself. Some styluses are just not good enough yet.

    When u compare the pencil lag differences between Microsoft surface or Samsung or dell or chromebook or any other difference the apple iPad will always come on top.. loook at the response... they nail it.

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  7 лет назад

      Two things to note. Lag also depends on the app you're using. The other thing is because Apple's refresh rate is now 120FPS, it makes the drawn stroke look smooth as it appears on screen. However, there's still a gap between the tip and the stroke appearing. It's not instant, but because of the refresh rate, it makes everything feels smoother and hence look like there's no lag. On the Samsung Tab S3, the refresh rate is lower and some apps aren't using the full refresh rate available which makes the drawn stroke look even more jerky (like coming out piece by piece) when drawn, even if the strokes are smooth and accurate.

    I just ordered a 10.5 model and I'm very excited about it, but just read a lot about "white spot issue" and am kinda worried. It doesn't seem that visible and I still prefer the 2017 Pro over the 2019 Air, but still a little bit worried. Since you have yours for a long time, have you experienced this issue?

      Best tablet for drawing is currently, in my opinion, the iPad Pro with Apple Pencil. iPad Pro 10.5 for the portability, and 12.9 for the extra large screen size. If you have limited budget, then perhaps the Samsung Tab S3.
      On iPad, there are many good drawing apps. E.g. Procreate, Paper by FiftyThree, Medibang Paint Pro, Wacom Bamboo Paper, Paintstorm, Adobe Sketch, Tayasui Sketches Pro (crashes a lot).

      You can definitely do collage/scrapbook type of art. Actually either SP4 or iPad Pro can do it. If you are getting a main machine, then the SP4 is better because it can install desktop and tablet apps, and has useful OS functionality. If you already have a main computer, then iPad Pro is better because the battery life is much better and also the user experience is better with Apple Pencil.

    i am a beginner.

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  7 лет назад +2

      +Shubhankar Biswas With Wacom tablet, you will be writing on your computer, after that your files will be saved directly on it and you can use that to create your tutorial. It's easy. With the iPad Pro, you have to transfer the notes to your computer each time you want to use them. If you want to create video tutorials on your iPad Pro, you have to research if there is any app that allows you to do that. If not, the transferring of notes each time to computer is quite inconvenient. Also, the Wacom tablet is so much cheaper. The iPad Pro 10.5 is already USD $650 and Apple Pencil is $100. The refurbished iPad Pro 9.7 is $470 and is actually quite worth it. But Wacom tablet is less than $150 only. It really depends on your budget and workflow.

I had an first generation 12.9 (which was stolen a few days ago) and like you I was using a screen protector with a matte finish to make it feel more like drawing on paper.
