Congratulations to the four very talented and beautiful women on their accomplishment in Paris. Im also in awe of the women from Ukraine who have to train and compete at high levels while also having to worry about their families in Ukraine who are in grave danger from a war. I wish the best for them and their families.

This is about the best outcome you could wish for. With Topic out, these are the best 4 jumpers in the world at the moment. A joy to watch any of them competing. Shout out to Yaroslava who is becoming very proficient with her English. And shout out to Nicola who might just be the most pleasant athlete in the business. Yaroslava's next goal - 2.13m (7 feet).

As an avid track and field fan who has admired the great performances of these high jumpers and their fellow athletes in the other jumping and throwing disciplines, and of course the sprinting and longer distances, I am disappointed at what appears to be a couple dozen reporters in the audience. I am genuinely curious: is this typical? Is this due to the lack of newspapers willing to able to send journalists to cover these marquee Olympics sports? (I am assuming/guessing these are mainly print reporters rather than television reporters.) If so, would it HELP if these post-event press conferences make use of Zoom or other means to get journalists from around the world (pre-cleared, so no idiots) to participate?

@@willc9866 I’m pretty sure they would want the best of the press and no silly questions or just maybe a representative from each country or something thing also I think we got to consider that since it’s multiple sports going on at once right now it’s probably all split up. Just my thoughts probably it could be other reasons too.

You highlight a larger issue of visibility for all field events. The high jump is extremely compelling with great personalities and wonderful human beings. Many of us our working behind the scenes to build a framework and bring these amazing human performances to the front of sports fans at large. Track and field Athletes are some of the best in the world and exemplify the ideals all humans strive for of being really good at something. The number of story lines are compelling, following these athletes ups and downs on their social media platforms tells you what the entertainment world is missing. The oversight of media executives comes in that the current sports calendar is backed in. Only so many hours to broadcast and Soccer, American football, hockey, basketball, baseball, and other sports occupying the preferred time slots, where do you put track and field? Is there a case to be made for creating a 24 hour track and field platform that features these athletes in highly produced documentary style series stories? the idea being create a path to reward the athletes while capturing eyeballs for the sport? Noah Lyles is currently carrying that banner for track and field as a headliner. He has a following and the others deserve it as well. These athletes as you know, often struggle financially. Few get solid Sponsorship deals for what they go through. It’s disappointing, however no one has yet been able to figure out how to bring track and field out of the every 4 years bubble into the mainstream year around our events are. Like soccer, it’s a 10 month season for most athletes and the rewards are few. When you win at the Olympics and no one shows up to cover it? That’s a systemic problem created decades ago. World Athletics understands this and is trying to modernize track and field to make it easier to broadcast for example.

Yaroslava Mahuchikh entered the legend when she cleared 2.10 m, in time of war, when Ukrainian civilians are killed in mass. She is the queen of high jump, the Goddess of the stadium, our beloved and worthy refractory. For information, at the same time the Red Army officer Mariya Lasitskene failed at 1.91 in a national contest, beaten by two fellow russians.
