  • This is a review of the 5C with my Cannonball sax this time. The 5C on the Cannonball feels smaller than the 4C on the Yamaha 475. How interesting!!

    Just took my 4C and put a Theo Wanne 8 facing curve on it last night. Rebuilt the tip and the rails--left a little tiny baffle too. Plays great. Tons of subtone, even dynamics, easy altissimo and low notes. Need to get something to polish the plastic back up on the body though.

    Thank you for the thorough review! When buying my used YTS 62 PL, the seller said, “I’ll include a 4C mouthpiece.” I just noticed it is a 5C! So in an effort to understand the difference between what I was promised and what I got, I searched YT and your review came up. Exactly what I was looking for!

    How does the 5C compare to the Yamaha 7CM? I 'd like a free blowing hard rubber mp. I tried the Jody Jazz Jet which feels thin to me. I see the CM hard rubber mp is also under $100. I've not seen a video on the Yamaha CM mouthpieces. Is that because no one is playing the CM? Love to hear your review of the CM. Thanks.

    Sir- you motivated me to pull out the Yammy 4C
    that came with the 2008 YTS-62II tenor that I have ! Stuck a Vandoren Green Java 2 1/2 reed on it, and it played pretty good! I just pushed up the reed over the edge a bit to make it more resistive, but the thing sounded good! A little darker, mellow, and not as loud or aggressive as my metal stm 7* otto link, but fairly neutral in that I think depending on reed choice, you could probably play a lot of different stuff on it that’s not supposed to sound too aggressive and get away with it. Certainly
    in contrast to Link and Vandoren V16 metal pieces.

    Decided to also try experimenting with the Jupiter 4C on my 2001 JAS-869 silver alto, but didn’t like it. I thought the Rico Graftonite B5 and my old Cannonball CAM5 were much better. The Jupiter 4C was trying to sound like the Rico, but it wasn’t getting it. I always wanted to try another alto HR piece, like a Meyer 6M, or a Vandoren V16 6M or 7 S+, to get a read on whether the CAM5 is sufficient, but I hate wasting money.

    I'm a big fan of the 4C on the Alto with the red box or V21. I recently have been trying out a baritone with a Yamaha 5c and a 2.5 Reed and I am really struggling! I tried a Rico Royal 3.0 Reed and it's alot easier to play. So I'm waiting for my good old standby Selmer 80c* to arrive from Musicians friend to see which Reed is going to be my main stay. I have a feeling it's going to be V21. 2.5 . Thanks for the excellent review as always. I really look forward to seeing them.

    You said that this mouthpirce is mainly classical but can I play jazz, pop&rock with thid kind of mouthpiece, and to sound fine also? I mean it hasnt buffle, like Berg Larsen, Vandoren Jambo Java, Dukoff ect.. and the sound is so dark. So can I make growl effect with that mouthpiece?

    • @Sirvalorsax
      @Sirvalorsax  3 года назад +2

      Yes you can. As far as it being more of a classical piece, it will be easier to get something closer to the sound you are looking for with one of the more "jazzy" mouthpieces.
