If the enemy is stronger than you, put 2 missile cavalry behind all their blind legions and Legatus and fire in its back until all 40 of them die, then proceed to annoying them in other ways.
Yeah and it works I remember playing a multiplayer game on Rome 1 and it was for a tournament 1v1. I was using scythian and my enemy was using the seleucid empire. Well basically I annoyed the fuck out of the guy and isolated his cataphracts into I felt save and pulled out a heroic victory.
This is exactly why i stopped playing on legendary. Its so meticulous and after just one battle like this or a few campain battles its just not fun at all. I play this game to have a good time. Still good on you for being so good at it.
Love how even after 20 years playing TW you can learn from others. Keeping troops like Archers and I guess ballista crews who are out of ammo on the field, helps with the mass rout! Thanks man!
slingers have a lower damage, so they damage the individual soldiers more evenly, the curve of kills over time is flatter in the begining and steeper towards the end, archers has a less curved kill graph. if you had a unit that one shots, then you get a curve depending on the probability due to the density of the unit, because the probability of hitting a soldier is depending only on the density of soldiers in the area hit by the volly, and the rate of fire is constant.
Gooscar not really, after this he keep his army in italy for another 12 years beating the romans in some less known battles and some of the most important italian cities join him. but carthaginians failed in spain and africa, and the carthaginian senate didn't give a shit, so hannibal didn't get reinforces. also is very stupid to think that he could attack rome following cannae. the romans still have two legions in the city and others in other territories + allied troops, also hannibal didn't have any siege equipment.
So sad to see how dumb the AI is and how strong their units are on legendary. CA didn't change the recipe in Atilla or Warhammer. I mean playing like that analytical and slowly has something satisfying but after I watch or do a few of these battles I just start to hate it...
I think you ordered the other two hoplites to attack cavalry but the third one was just standing there not fighting at all which is why they got wrecked.
They should at least have given the Roman's the historic tactics they used and kept the cavalry alongside the infantry flanks rather than charging forward
To: LegendofTotalWarI would love it if you could show us in a video what you use to record because I really want to make Total War videos and I don't really know how. I am also trying to contact you on steam. From: Shadow&ShockWave
I love how you commit to every faction you play regardless of anything else. Play as Romans? Fuck the Gauls, fuck the Carthagenians, fuck everyone! Play as Carthagenians? Fuck the Romans! Hahhahah love it.
Basically... completely unlike the actual historical battle. Is it even possible to use the Libyan spearmen as the critical enveloping force? This game does have the idiotic rock-paper-scissors formula that dictates swordsmen beat spearmen... something Hannibal wasn't disadvantaged by.
Like Legend said on the description, he doesnt play to be historical accurate, he play to win. But, yes, there's a way to win it with historical accurate, but, on Legendary difficult it's pretty hard. And, for the "rock-papper=scissors", it was actually true that a Sword (principally a Gladius, who where short swords) is better than a Spear because when the enemy get's closer, the spear become inneficient, i think that just the Hoplites are as efficient as a Swordsmen because of their phalanx that doesn't let the enemy break to close quarters. But still, Sword >>>>>>>>> Spear, and this is exaclu why the Roman's adopted the use of Swordsmanship ratther than Spears
@Gustavo Henrique ehm not actually accurate for the specific situation but almost close in general...in History spears are by far more efficient than swords on a battlefield, all around the world and trough the ages for many many reasons. The true strenght of the Roman Legion was not them having gladius to fight, but the extremely superior formations they adopted and evolved during almost 2000 years of wars ,their training and the fact that except early roman armies like the one in this video, every soldier was a professional. Also to be fair they used a lot of spear units but they called their main spear "pilum" and made them to have big iron points that when threw disabled enemy shields. Every soldier in a roman legion would have at least two pilum each to use in battle except cavalry and archers of course, one to trhow before charge and another one to actually charge the enemy, then wen both where used/broken they moved to gladius and shield Same tactic works also in defense. You are right in saying that in close combat a sword is more effective in general (but still the range of spears would challenge every swordsman believe me and in every combat personal skills have a huge impact no matter the weapon used except guns vs close combat of course ) but you also have to think about the difference in single combat and battles. in single combat you have to worry about just a dude and his weapon having the flanks exposed does not matter and you have all the possile angles of attack, but in an ancient battle you must keep formation and basically can only attack in front of you so having the range of a sarissa (the Macedon spear) will mean to be basically unbeatable as Alexander the Great proved many times in his wars. anyway my point is basically that it was not for the weapons they used but how they used them and the army structure... I hope I was not too boring, this is not my intention but I love history and I like to share my studies to spread knowledge as best as possible and I could talk for days with others history passionates. Apologies for any misprononuced word, but I am Italian and my english is what it is :) take care bro! also check this dude he explains fairly well the roman army structure ruclips.net/video/3iz1_UwD2Fw/видео.html
Elia Marinelli I think the Roman's would disagree with that. Roman legionairs had two weapons.... the Gladius and the pilum. Three of you count the shield.
I tried doing this on legendary by encircling the enemy infantry with cav It's impossible because your infantry just gets absolutely shit on by roman infantry
+LegendofTotalWar legendary isnt harder than very hard, is it? I think it is only that you dont have a minimap and that you cant give commands while having the game paused.
hard to know for certain. It does seem like the enemy units are much stronger than in campaign. and for legendary to just not have the minimap doesn't make it any more difficult than VH. It'd wager it has some big stat buffs.
No i didnt. And I know that CAs AI suck so much and its very easy to run AI units on map but from other side it is hard to write a code for AI that will not chase your units. Just try to make this battle with not taking advantage of CAs lazyness
14:16 Who are you and what have you done with the real Legend?!
Real legend hates romans and Christianity lol
The general rule of war:
If your enemy is stronger than you, annoy them.
- LoTW
This is actually a quote from Art of War. Maybe not with these words, but it's the same idea.
If the enemy is stronger than you, put 2 missile cavalry behind all their blind legions and Legatus and fire in its back until all 40 of them die, then proceed to annoying them in other ways.

@Nic777 Lmao this comment is so old I completely forgot why I posted it, it's not meant seriously y'all
@@gmatsue84 lmfao

In the campaign, the difficulty of the battles are actually "Very Difficult" if you play on Lr difficulty
I've tried to beat Alesia a couple dozen times on Legendary. I'll be very impressed if you can do it
" He wasn't playing on Legendary difficulty, he was just playing on Normal. " SHOTS FIRED!!! WHAT NOW HANNIBAL?! +LegendofTotalWar
1 hour battle mechanics by the LEGEND
Love how even after 20 years playing TW you can learn from others. Keeping troops like Archers and I guess ballista crews who are out of ammo on the field, helps with the mass rout! Thanks man!
thanks for not doing scripted commentary, that stuff is awful
damn assuies making ne watch his video at 1am
Damn everywhere elsers making us watch at 1am on every other occasion.

Total War Masterclass by the Legend, and legendary commentary! Thanks for great content with this, and the warhammer series. Keep it up!
They rose a huge army bigger than ever and Hannibal still mugged off the Romans
And he did fuck all else after Cannae
Gooscar not really, after this he keep his army in italy for another 12 years beating the romans in some less known battles and some of the most important italian cities join him. but carthaginians failed in spain and africa, and the carthaginian senate didn't give a shit, so hannibal didn't get reinforces.

Oooh, I love these sort of videos Legend. Looking forward to the refresh of this series. :D
oh the morning exercise for legend

I mean playing like that analytical and slowly has something satisfying but after I watch or do a few of these battles I just start to hate it...
That bad thing about the tactic hannibal use in this battle is that the Romans would use it later against him to win and make him retire
Legend did you have FRAPS open while recording? looks like FRAPS FPS counter on top left corner
Haven't you uploaded this already? Or do I have the longest deja-vu in the history of mankind?
He's done this one before quite a while ago on a different patch
its like they didn't even try to make the battle similar to cannae, the terrain's all wrong
Can you do Battle of Alesia next? That shit is nigh impossible on hard, and if you do it on Very Hard/Legendary I'd be very impressed.
I'll be doing all the historical battles, but I'm saving Alesia for last because it is the hardest.
LegendofTotalWar Fair enough, that's the only one I don't have fully finished on all difficulties.
+LegendofTotalWar which battle are you gonna do next? :)
how to kill cavalry: mix your flank with cav and cheep but fast speer infantry. Always works. Caesar at Pharsalus
I won this battle in 2023 on legendary I just made 3 Lines Spearmen Sword Infantry and Archers and came behind with my Cavalry .. not running away
I think you ordered the other two hoplites to attack cavalry but the third one was just standing there not fighting at all which is why they got wrecked.
8:10 wtf? Is this Medieval II?
Well, it's scripted.
Do have all Attila battles?
yes, i have a playlist with them all.
If you push pause during battle maneuvers, you can get better control.
hes on legendary, he can't issue orders when paused
It's so funny how Rome lost this battle historically
14:17
If only your archers would pluck arrows out of Roman corpses, then create more Roman corpses.
omg u are so good and talented strategic player wpwp
They should at least have given the Roman's the historic tactics they used and kept the cavalry alongside the infantry flanks rather than charging forward
do u think it would be easier with elephants
Legend, do you prefer Total war Attila, or Total war Rome 2? Also, awesome video!
I would guess RTW2. Just a guess..
jesus christ it worked i didn tknow that the ai will go afk i even manage to end his general eearly . legendary diff ofc :P
That was awesome 😮
Guessing after this will be all the quest battles in Warhammer?
I feel like if you ran them down after the battle I coulda gotten heroic victory
I lose all of my cavarly first because i try to destroy his . and then sent my general to pick one one the units xD
woooo ur damn good at this
i cant stop pronouncing this the battle of kanye and its so funny
Do a video where you envelop the the romans.
He won't be able to do the envelopement in this battle on legendary. It will fail.
legend of cheese

sorry i dont accept any more friend requests on steam. My list is already way too big. best way to contact me is by email or facebook. I use bandicam.
Thanks for the information
i almost beat it at Normal if that counts.
I love how you commit to every faction you play regardless of anything else. Play as Romans? Fuck the Gauls, fuck the Carthagenians, fuck everyone! Play as Carthagenians? Fuck the Romans! Hahhahah love it.
i did this on easy :P and i won

What? It isn’t even similar to the battle of Cannae.
aa the AI still doesn't mk sense...
The AI is stupid! It seems like they haven't improved it since Medieval 2.
1 hour long btw
nice
Rome 2: Total Cheese
this is how AI respond in hardest mode trash game
lol. Shame no heroic. Good job.
theres no battle of carrhae on this game? thats shit
I´d like to see that one, plus Pharsalus :)
Rome Total War has them I believe
1 hour really ? WTF
Well the real battle lasted a full day
Если есть русские, то обращайтесь, батя канн покажет как нужно выигрывать их на изичах, без такого затрата по времени)))
Isnt it Pince-ip-ey
Nah in Latin there is no such thing as a soft C. It's Prin-ki-pey
FlipUltraHD Thanks, i didn't know that.
+FlipUltraHD that's not exactly true: there is classical and ecclesiastical prounonciation(that's what they teach in Italy)
No one knows the original one for sure.
game narrator is too quiet
1 hour battle?? lol

i know that running around the map might be funny for you but not for the viewers
Have you won the battle of Cannae on Legendary?
+LegendofTotalWar legendary isnt harder than very hard, is it? I think it is only that you dont have a minimap and that you cant give commands while having the game paused.

Actually it was very impressive seeing how he maneuvered his army
No i didnt. And I know that CAs AI suck so much and its very easy to run AI units on map but from other side it is hard to write a code for AI that will not chase your units. Just try to make this battle with not taking advantage of CAs lazyness
