      The fact that this is the point that you think is most important is what annoys her. I can understand it from her side. You are almost like annoyed because shes trying to 'cheat and deny shes a a man' or something.
      Its kinda like telling a poor person who becomes rich 'You were born a commoner, its the elephant in the room, you'll never be anything else, you can't deny who your father was, you'll never be one of us."

    This whole thing makes me really dislike Janet Mock. I watched the interview and she didn't act very upset at all. She laughed and smiled for most of it. If she wanted to be offended be offended on the show. Not over your fucking twitter account.
    Janet Mock is still riding the publicity from this year old "contentious" interview.

      He didnt attack her. Morgan has a harsh voice, but ignore his voice and listen to his words. He is guilty of nothing but a certain amount of ignorance surrounding the subject of transgender people, as most people are because there is no right or wrong answer. Each journey is a personal one, and therefore different. Some trans women WERE men, lived as men, married women and had children before they decided to be real to themselves. Her journey was different. Simple.
      People are SO unforgiving of both trans people, AND those who are trying to be nice and supportive. WE ARE HUMAN! WE FUCK UP! Deal with it! He was clearly trying to be very supportive and clearly didn't understand why she had reacted SO badly, to something he thought was positive. Educating someone is about being honest, not passive aggressive, which she was on twitter. Her anger was misguided at morgan, i think she is angry at people who make mistakes all the time and snapped at Morgan. Im pretty sure she was projecting her hurt and her negative encounters onto peirs because he is an easy target because, for some reason, people don't like him.

      Marellya Bradi Wow, you hit the nail on the head. I haven't been able to articulate this concept. I have also been attacked when merely trying to help and it is upsetting and shocking. Recently, a trans teenager named Leelah committed suicide. I was so moved by the story that I posted her suicide letter which she wanted the public to read. The problem? She put the name Leelah in parenthesis and her birth name Josh in crossed out font. When I copied and pasted the letter, the crossed out font didn't transfer. I got attacked by someone for renaming her and putting her name in parenthesis. When I explained that I did not do this, I was still publicly shamed for not editing her suicide letter. I didn't think it my place to edit a suicide letter. I definitely, think that anger is often times misdirected at the very people trying to help and that is not fair. I also live in a LGBTQ community. So, I honestly didn't understand why I was called transmisogynist. I'm a black woman, I have better things to do than to try to oppress trans people with the little power I do have in society.

    I love Janet Mock, I really do. Redefining Realness is a great book and she is typically a very well-spoken advocate for the trans community.
    However, conducting yourself within an interview as if nothing is wrong and then taking your grievances to Twitter is two-faced, plain and simple. There are other ways that she could have voiced her concerns about how the interview was conducted and the language that was used. She did not handle herself well in this situation.
    Also, I feel that there is a growing issue within the trans community of turning on allies for the misuse of language, usually without any awareness on the allies part of the mistake they have made. After watching the interview Ms. Mock did with Piers Morgan I did not come away thinking that he was "transphobic." I came away thinking that he was a firmly supportive ally who is uneducated as to the language and phrasing that could be disrespectful to trans people. Not something to be ignored, but not something to vilify him for, either. It is something to be addressed head-on in an honest and frank discussion that those who truly support the trans-community should be willing to have.
    Most people in the world are not aware of the issues facing the trans community and the discrimination they endure. That's why people like Janet Mock are so important. But if the trans community continues to respond as harshly to their supporters over misuses of language a they have, their supporters are going to grow silent and unwilling to engage in a meaningful dialogue.

      Jennifer Fama She was angry at her own failure, and rather than approaching Piers Morgan privately and explaining the situation regarding his perceived insensitivity, she decided to immaturely respond by attacking his conduct. The first mistake was due to being scared in the moment, but the second was simply premeditated idiocy, I believe.

      I agree with you. I just think that Janet made a mistake here. We can't expect perfection from the general population at this point and shouldn't chase away those who are open minded and supportive of our community. I think that both she and Piers learned something from all of this. I also take away something else here. Janet's origional appearance must have gotten good rating or Piers wouldn't have had her on again. I'm grateful for the exposure and the opportunity for people to learn.

    I adore Janet Mock. However, she needs to be more understanding with people that are making an attempt to understand and accept just as she/we are asking people to be more understanding of the transgender community. It's a two way street. Morgan may have been clumsy with his words at times, but he is coming from a different place. Janet is an amazing, successful woman who just made a mistake. I think that she knows it. I still have nothing but admirattion for her and see her as a role model.

    Very trans-positive person but I do find Mock to be a bit too...she says that she is very patient and willing to educate people...but Pierse was an ally and an old one at that and I think a lot of people just do not understand it. If you are going to be an advocate you need to realize that some people just don't understand what being trans is. If she doesn't want to talk about it with people who are ignorant..maybe she should just stick to Melissa Harris Perry and Huffpost Live where the audience actually gets her. Just sayin. Otherwise don't be shocked when the mainstream media that is made for old people in Kentucky treat you like something out of the ordinary. Not everyone lives in a big diverse city.

    What people don't understand is that her only purpose of being on the show was to promote a book about her transition. If you don't want to talk about your "TRANSITION" which means changing from one thing to another, then you should sit down and shut the fuck up. Don't write a book about a subject that you have a hard time talking about. Of course they are going to say you were once something you are not now, you wrote a fucking book about it. Was Piers supposed to tip toe around the subject the whole interview and not talk about the 1 reason why she is there?
    I hope this helped her sell some books.

    MARC: You definitely handled your business that time.
    Uh...She didn't even answer Piers question. Damn, what in the blue blazes is this woman on? She's courageous, brave and one of the leading advocate of transgenders right but...Damn, after watching the first interview with Piers and the second and now this...She makes herself look like a horribly defensive person. Nitpicking every little detail so she can find a mistake and focus on it.
    In the first interview with Piers, he was very friendly and the questions he asked was perfectly fine. Not many people knew about Janet Mock. Yes, there are obviously the transgender community and a few others but, still, not EVERYONE in the nation knows about her OR her community. So what does Piers do? He asked HER questions that gave her the opportunity to INTRODUCE herself to the NATION and, in consequence, THE WORLD. Because that's what you want to do if very few people has heard of you and what you're trying to do and accomplish. YOU INTRODUCE YOURSELF. Remember, she is ONE of the leading advocates of transgender rights and the community therein. She is trying to help others like her. I respect that. I also respect that Piers was trying to help Janet in spreading and supporting her by inviting her onto national television.
    It shows that he is a supporter of equality and transgender rights. If she felt offended then she should have spoken up.
    However, I can somewhat understand that she wanted to be kind, friendly and cordial. But I think if she HAD spoken up, Piers would understand and apologize. He's proven himself to be a very professional hosts unlike some other hosts.
    Anyway, the first interview went without any problems. At least Piers saw it that way. However, from Janet point of view, it didn't go so smooth. That's okay. She could have just called him and clarified some things to him. That would have been a better way to handle it.
    Going to Twitter and tweet out some BS to him and about him, well...That's just messed up. Plain and simple.
    All right, now we have Janet for a second interview. Piers invited her back to clarify some things. Now she has the chance to not ONLY explain BUT also clear up some misunderstandings to Piers and the people that DON'T understand and know about transgenders.
    She has the chance. What does she do when Piers asked her a simple question? She beats around the bush and gave no clear answer. What the hell? I can understand the first interview she wanted to be kind but now she has a chance to clear up any misunderstanding about her community. ON NATIONAL TELEVISION. Take that opportunity. And you know what? She did. She took it in a very unwise direction wherein she puts down a supporter of her community that did nothing wrong.
    Now, obviously, Piers could have come into the 2nd interview with a calm composure. HOWEVER, I can definitely understand why he was a little angry. Think about it...It's been 5 days since the first interview. He thought it went peachy. Then, out of nowhere, comes some of the transgender community folks and starts trashing on him. He finds out that the one that is pretty much the LEAD in this hate is the very woman he had interviewed 5 days ago. So I can understand his frustration. In that frustration, he used a few words and statements that I wouldn't have used. But remember, Janet pretty much just pulled a 2-Face on him. I would be angry too.
    Damn...She's still courageous and brave. I respect that. But, damn, she's also shown herself to be a just another overly defensive person that can twist and turn people's word around and playing the victim. Disappointing.

    • @ladennayoung2939
      @ladennayoung2939 2 года назад

      I'm so confused with the point you are trying to make. A baby transition from a baby, toddler, pre-teen, teen, young adult, and then an adult. It don't mean that your sex, skin tone, or anything else will change. SMH.

    • @gcmacyman
      @gcmacyman 2 года назад

      @@ladennayoung2939 Keep shaking your head because you do NOT get it. Just so you know, YOU were born one sex. A biological male and a biological female created you, and YOU emerged from a biological female's body. YOU were identified as either a female or a male BABY when you were delivered by your biological Mother, as was I and all other humans in the history of human kind. So, if you still don't get it, then well, maybe there's not much hope for you now is it? So all humans are born baby boys or baby girls (with the tiny exception of an intersexed baby) whether you like it or not. Whatever someone decides to do or identify as is whatever they do, but no one in this world can deny the true biology when it comes to creating biological life and bringing it into this world. Two men can't together create a life, and two women together can't create a life. Janet Mock was born a biological baby BOY and made her transition to being a transgender woman as she chose to, and that's ok.

    I watched the interview and follow up interview with Piers. Trans people whether they want to admit it or not have the unusual perspective of living their lives in the body of their gender assignment in her case a male and what her inner self tells her she is which is female. I don't think his comments were offensive when she wrote an article addressing it. If Janet had any concerns or issues with Piers at the time she should have addressed it to him or his staff. Going on social media was the wrong move. Piers made it clear to her several times that he supports trans right but didn't appreciate her comments on social media. Piers was very articulate addressing his displeasure for her later comments on social media and I felt really bad for her at the end of the second interview because he was correct.

    She should've just admitted that she was wrong to post comments like that on twitter. I'd probably ve chicken shit also snd maybe not open my mouth during the interview, hut she could have voiced her concerns after the show. She could've approached the show later, privately. Voiced her concerns via her publisher, etc.
    She should've explained how Piers was wrong, but also how her handling of the problem was also wrong.

      Nop, she did not seem a bit fake to me as a trans woman i can relate to her. We have to educate idiots like him sooo much it becomes part of nature. Some might be sincere and willing to understand the whole gender identity thing while others try to make mockery by simply pretending they are curious. That reporter absolutely fits on the second category and I could smell his arrogance and ignorance miles away. He simply did not care and just wanted to make a point.

    • @charliehelmijr
      @charliehelmijr 10 лет назад

      Susan Sumari Well, I'm not sure if you got the whole story or not. I'm not a transgendered person (I'd like to ask for your forgiveness and patience when it comes to my use of the terms, I'm open to criticism and education, so please tell me if I'm using the terms wrong or explain to me how I should use them), so I wouldn't know about all her struggles and the stupidity she has to deal with. I have a feeling it's way too f-ing much, I'll give her that.
      The problem is, educate me to my face. Educate without humiliating me. I can agree that Piers Morgan's show was trying to sensationalize her story (i.e.: the tweets they posted), then again it's a TV show: what did you expect? Then again, she won't have any of it, it's her story and she protects it. More power to her. But when you let me do my thing, smile at me and tell me it's been wonderful and then you go home and blast me on Twitter: how is that not fake?
      What I don't like: if you have something to tell someone that is helping you get your story our there (and Piers might be arrogant but he's fairly pro-diversity, which I love about him), send him a private message, contact your publisher, contact his people, etc. And say: I don't like this, I don't like that. If that doesn't work, tweet "I take offence to these tweets.", or something of that sort.
      Don't sit with someone, smile through it and then go blast them later publicly. This is one of the mistakes minorities tend to make. As a minority, I've been guilty of it too. We are so used to the role of being a victim, so used to enduring pain, often times silently, that even when we don't have to, we choose that route. But Janet Mock, has a voice, she has a power and she should've used it there. On the show. To educate Piers and everyone watching and we would've gotten to see a beautiful, proud, woman (of color) educate an arrogant white man, gracefully.
      Instead we got to see a scornful woman tweeting about and badmouthing some ignorant guy that didn't really seem to grasp what he had done wrong. There isn't much grace in that. And then when she gets the chance to set things right, she apologizes via excuses and doesn't really hold her self accountable for her actions. Misunderstandings and overreactions are annoying, ignorance is even worse, but there are ways of handling it. Blasting unknowning people publicly, instead of voicing your opinion to their face or privately comes over a bit cowardly. And NOT owning up to your mistake adds insult to injury.
      P.S.: I've been watching Piers Morgan for quite some time. He's not faking his support for the transgendered community. He's pretty much what we in Europe refer to as blindly politically correct and as "left" as it gets. All his views have always been supportive of progressiveness, open-mindedness, minorities and the lgbt-community in general. I think he was trying to sensationalize things a bit, plus his English manner can make him seem fake. But as a Piers-knower, I really don't think it was fake curiosity. Maybe it's a lack of understanding (ignorance) about how it is transgendered people want their story to be received.

      Susan Sumari Well, aren't you a selfish bitch! I listened to the interview, at no point did Piers make a mockery of Janet, if he worded things wrongly, then it should have been pointed out there and then, not 5 days after via social media ! You may be a trans woman, but your over emphasising that exact point, I'm gay, but who gives a shit ! Yes, we all need to educate some people to be accepting of us, but your own arrogance and ignorance is blinding you. Lay off Piers Morgan, his interview was fair and honest, even if you think it wasn't. What the hell do you have to take offence at a word that was spoken in an incorrect context, if someone calls me a Fag, so what, it's an Americanism of the word gay, It's what I am, it does not define me as anything else or as someone else. To educate someone, you have to take their hand and guide them out of ignorance. Is a good math teacher offended by a student who can't solve their equation? No, a teacher sits down with them, addresses the equation head-on, and guides them through the problem.

    It's cool Marc is so supportive! The only thing is Marc said Janet educated a whole country on the subject. I disagree because I still see negative comments online about transwomen and I don't get it. People just don't want to open their minds and learn. It's so much easier for them to hate and judge and be rude and call out names. Why? Transwomen hurt no one. They aren't a threat to anyone. They just want to be able to live their lives just like anyone else. What's it anyone's business anyway? If it doesnt have anything to do with you why do you care? Transwomen aren't out to hurt anyone so why hurt them? Why commit murders to transwomen? Killing a transwoman is not going to stop transwomen from being transwomen. There has always been transwomen. It's just that now people are talking about it because they are tired of living a lie. They are tired of not being able to express themselves in a manner any other woman expresses themselves. No one is forcing you to become friends with them. If you don't want to talk to transwomen fine just don't hurt them because afterall they are human too and they have feelings like everyone else. They deserve to be happy just like anyone else. They also deserve to feel safe just like anyone else. There is so much hate in this world, so much destruction going on in this world, why add to it?

    She feels entitlement on how to be treated in a certain way as trans when the whole world doesnt know a lot about trans just yet. People can only do as much to be polite and to be politically correct with her but definitely the majority does not know how to deal just yet so she has to be very understanding and patient and tolerant of people's lapses when things fall out of her expectations. She said it herself that her life right now is a repeating cycle of educating people and spreading awareness. Keep it up. And next next time be more transparent with how you feel and get it out of your system instead of ranting on a different medium.

She did make it clear that she is standing by her community and for her is either you or them. She stood by her community which I respect her for. Piers Morgan did make a legit argument. She should apologize to him in private. imo

    Follow leaders like MLK or Gandhi, not Janet Mock. Janet comes off as being shallow. She talks about loving Beyonce and Janet Jackson, rich people who live like kings in a world where 3/4's of the people live like shit so the rest of us can try and live like Janet Mock's idols. MLK and Gandhi would not idolize such evil. Janet Mock tries to look and act like them, its sad.

    I saw the Piers interview as well as the follow up interview. Piers made it clear several times that he doesn't care if a person is gay, straight, bi or transgender. He only wanted to be educated as to why she was so offended when she left the show but didn't correct him or say anything at the time. Some transgender individuals are overly sensitive when it comes to gender. It's reasonable to ask someone who was raised and cultured as a male those kinds of questions in an interview. I don't care how a transgender person live their life as long as they are honest to any future sexual partners. Some individuals don't want to date or marry a person who was born the same sex as them no matter how much they feel like the opposite sex. I am one of them...

    Shows like Piers Morgan are to educate people who know nothing about specific issues and sometimes you have to start talking about it in baby steps...from the beginning before you can actually go into the more spiritiual and true meaning of self and he did what he should. Of course some questions might not be interesting to answer to at first but it is a start. To talk about it. There is an expression that says talk about it in one way of the other but talk about it. I am sure some girls at home watched this and it was beneficial to them, they recognized themselves regardless of the words used. I think she is taking things to another level here. This show allowed me to find out about her and find her admirable.

But I could definitely see her clenching her jaw and gritting her teeth in the interview with Piers Morgan and there was a definite tension in her voice, to say that this is a publicity stunt is ridiculous, why would she want negative publicity surrounding a positive book.

    He's born a male. At some point in his life he feels that he is a woman and therefore he decides to change his body to fit his feelings. He gets operated on to change his genitals.
    He writes a book on it and decides to promote it, so he gets on these TV shows to talk about it and when the hosts ask him about how he lived through all that, he gets offended that he was referred to as a male.

      Absolutely not. I am entitled to my own belief just like you're entitled to yours, lovey! just going by your own reasoning. Besides, gender is determined in an area of the brain called the hypothalamus. In the case transwomen, SCHIENTIFIC RESEARCH has established that transwomen's hypothalamus is identical to genetic females. However, if we go by "street people's" opinions then we could end up with 100's of views. Most of them are based on religion, culture and subjective interpretation. I hope you've had your douche now, lovey!

      errrm, as I said "street people" can come up with hundreds of nonsensical personal interpretations. Science is undebatable, though. The same science does not consider it as brain damage. It simply refers to it as the area that determines gender, and that is a fact.

    Real talk here. She was, biologically speaking, a boy until the age of 18. Which was very unfortunate, because in her mind, she is a woman. Which is why it's a good thing that she had surgery.
    Come on guys... sometimes there's no discrimination going on whatsoever. I really don't see it here.

    • @wabznasm9660
      @wabznasm9660 9 лет назад

      Olie Bol That's bollocks Olie Bol. By your logic a man who loses his penis in an accident is no longer "biologically" male. These transitions don't involve gene therapy. If you accept she's a woman now, you have to accept she has always been a woman. That's why Morgan is wrong, because he explicitly says that she was not a woman until she had surgery. And then you come along talking about the birds and the bees, but with a really odd definition of what gender is.
      Basically, you can either believe she is still and always has been a man, or you can believe that she is and always has been a woman. There is no middle ground, and it depends entirely on how much you think gender actually matters in the grand scheme of things. IRL I rarely talk about trans people, they are so rare they just don't come up in conversation. When they do though, I'd prefer to be polite and refer to them as they refer to themselves. You know, like I do with everybody else.

    • @boilingoil11
      @boilingoil11 9 лет назад +1

      Moke Having a penis is just one of the many things that is characteristic about being male or female. There have generally speaking been two types of human body types, and we have started referring to these as male and female. It has nothing to do with respect, it's just how we define it.
      But please don't misunderstand me, I WOULD refer to a trans person in the gender he/she prefers, because that's what he/she really IS. They are just stuck in the wrong kind of body
      So yes, I DO believe that she has always been a woman. But she had the body of a man. What am I saying that is untrue?.

    • @bravobr9725
      @bravobr9725 9 лет назад

      Moke Your wrong actually. Janet was 6 when she realised that she was different, that is old enough to know a little about who you are or are becoming, but no where near old enough to even understand transgender issues. Just because Janet felt female does not make her female genitally or biologically. Yes, she is now a woman, she has had gender reassignment, to make her female, regardless of feeling female inside, she was born male, so no matter how anyone looks at it, janet has completed her transition to being the woman that she has always felt she was from the age of 6, not from birth ! Neither you or I can define the gender of someone just because inside they feel female or male in the wrong body, that at least comes under genetics and what goes on in the womb, it's not defined the moment someone is born. I completely admire her for standing up for herself and advocating for the trans community, but let's cut all this PC bullshit out of the situation. Piers was not there to mock her, a choice of words does not make someone a bigot or ratings nut, even a poor choice of words didn't make him look like he was making her look like a fool.

    • @wabznasm9660
      @wabznasm9660 9 лет назад

      To be fair Ollie, you said that she was "biologically speaking, a boy until the age of 18", which is the point I responded to; I am assuming you don't mean "boy" as in "juvenile" but as in "male". I think we generally agree, and I think I responded overly tetchily to poor wording. But level with me, if you're going to be all biological and literal, when you say "she HAD the body of a man", you're implying what Morgan implies, that she somehow changed butterfly like into a woman, when she still has the same body (with modifications) and the same genes. I am pleased you are respectful and I would go so far as to say we need more people like you in the world.
      I do however maintain that Morgan should have done his homework and not used such weird language. He is an interviewer, it is his job (unless he's Paxman or something) to make people feel at ease enough to open up, which he failed at.
      And to put my cards on the table, I only give a shit about this insofar as I believe in a direct link between discriminatory/disrespectful language, disrespectful behaviour, and ultimately violent acts - a link proven time and time again throughout history for all kinds of benighted groups; Morgan's use of language is, at best, not ameliorating a desperate situation for these people.

    • @wabznasm9660
      @wabznasm9660 9 лет назад

      bravobr But her gender reassignment didn't make her a woman, by your own logic, and that is my point! You say she was not a woman biologically and genetically... well then she still isn't, by your own definition! How does a surgical procedure change that? I am actually repeating myself here. Please re read my comment.
      "PC bullshit", incidentally, is why white folk don't all go around calling people of colour n*****s; it seemed really weird at the time for the people who knew and loved the word, but times change, and so will ours. It's such a tiny sacrifice in your life to watch what you say about something you probably never talk about anyway, I don't know why people have such a massive problem with it.
      I didn't actually call Morgan a bigot, or anything derogatory really; I genuinely don't think he is, despite his many many flaws. I did however call him out for his use of language (perhaps a misnomer, I actually mean the concepts he labours under) which I think is fair enough.
      Again, as I said to Ollie, I'm so glad that you treat trans issues with the respect they deserve - if everybody did the world would be a better place - but you are in a minority, and calling people out on this stuff actually, tangibly helps to change that, however much you may protest. I'm not instituting thought crime, people can say what they want - I will however challenge them when needed, and if they're putting their ideas out there, they should be ready to take the criticism without calling me a 1984 feminazi PC gone mad loony lefty.
      Phew, sorry, that was a long one.

    I could tell she was uncomfortable in the interview. A lot of people don't express their feelings in the moment. That's actually human nature. People typically hold things in and vent through other channels. Morgan's questions were a little much. More so, the way way they were posed. I know that a lot of people are ignorant, but when you're on platform like Morgan you need to get it together and I think that's what Janet told him to do in one of her tweets Lol

      Cee Breezy there was nothing wrong with his questions. when your go on a platform like this to speak about issues to people who are ignorant of it, you need to make them understand how it felt and what you went through and the feelings you experienced while doing so. Piers questions did exactly that. She was more pissed about him saying she was born a boy.

      Kam Iris Noor I tend to disagree. While I am supportive of her, I think she messed up. I’m the early part of this interview you hear her say what she was thinking but correcting herself. She started saying Piers said she is a man but then corrected herself to say piers said she was a man. That was the problem, she didn’t care what he actually said, she only cared what she imagined he said. Later on in this interview she made a similar slip.
      It is correct to say she was born a male - sexually she was male. Her gender may have always been as a woman or girl but she was a male (again sex-wise).
