Update: He has filed another copyright claim on a 3rd video after this! Update 2: The first two videos have returned after his claim was invalidated through inaction.
You need to send a Tweet to RUclips telling them that TC has been illegally and fraudulently copyright claiming videos. That’s pretty much the only way RUclipsrs have been able to get RUclips’s attention about matters like this. Making videos and posts like this may not be enough.
I am so sorry you have to go through all this mess, chemtubers have always suffer from RUclips content moderation already and now you even need to deal with illegal copyright claims which are disgusting.
@@segfault- I looked at all your other comments and I agree with you but also disagree with you. this isn’t demonizing acid, it’s a specific set of circumstances that caused acute psychosis. Amphetamines/Phenidates (ADHD Meds) can easily cause psychosis and acid can in very rare cases or if used for a prolonged duration daily. While acid isn’t addictive in the sense other drugs are, it can still be abused. I’ve seen people use acid for days on end either because it’s literally their drug of choice (usually because it makes them feel a emotional connection with a higher power) and people use acid daily bc they were addicts with no other drug. One person I am very good friends with got CPTSD and dissociative episodes all from it. I’m not against acid but you gotta know the facts and risk if you’re going to do things like that.
Things just keep escalating. First it's unreasonable demands (wanting everyone to do expensive analysis), then he goes and contacts someone's family without permission or cause. So far it's just silly high school behavior, you'd think someone with a Ph.D. would be cut from better cloth than that. But now he's fraudulently abusing the youtube copyright system for.... i don't even know. This is extremely petty to take down a video that only mentions you, and not even in a negative way. Imagine how utterly stupid it would be if you could be copyright struck for citing someone's paper. He should know better having written a thesis where he undoubtedly cited hundreds of papers before him. I honestly worry what will happen next at his current trajectory. It wasn't always like this. When I spoke to him he was an intelligent, collected guy focused on doing good chemistry and building a good community free of drama. Now he's become the very cause of the drama we've all been trying to avoid. I don't know him well enough to say whether its the drugs, some underlying medical issue, or whether he's been this way all along and just fooled us. But whatever it is, it's sad what he's become. I do hope he finds his way back to the badass chemist he was. I don't recognize this person.
"Imagine how utterly stupid it would be if you could be copyright struck for citing someone's paper." What would science become if that could happen ? I'd rather not think about it.
@@anonymousanon6913 LSD has a track record of breaking membranes in people's brains, so to speak. Perhaps he had some appearance of it before but was aware of it and managed a positive personality. Now it's like the filter is gone. I've personally known so many people whose personalities and lives changed for the worse after LSD. I used to consider trying it but after this many anecdotes I think I'll steer clear of acid. Also, delusions of grandeur and sudden religiosity are signature signs of LSD induced brain changes. I have also observed this firsthand. It's unfortunate. Some drugs are good. But LSD can screw you up forever.
I had a class mate like that. Paranoid schizophrenia, stopped his meds, illusions of grandeur. Ended up SA a friend of mine AND almost killing her through an OD! Needless to say he's been removed from the uni, however my friend has to live with the consequences and can't drink alcohol any more as it gives her seizures! (It didn't before the OD)
I abandoned my entire interest and social group over this happening. When 4mmc/4fa hit they all lost sight of the goal and became pseudo religious speed zombies. It taught me a lot about how fragile and stupid my grandiose beliefs were at the time. Further solidified by the fact I was making free test kits at the time and couldn't give them away for free. I'd test stuff for people, confirm it was mystery cathinones, and they would snort two lines instead of the one they planned to when they thought it was a 2c or MDMA. Then they reordered into smaller more cultish groups, each with a little Messiah figurehead. Of course it was all ultimately manipulation to inflate their self worth and convince every monogamous couple to split up and that they should reeeeally be banging the Messiah instead. monogamy was a simplistic scam against them personally. Weaponized polyamory flying under shadow of enlightenment. Several groups, it wasn't a one off kinda thing. Very disappointing in the end.
Most lsd is synthesized in college labs. People don’t realize how common it is. Went through a similar experience with drug use doing my undergrad and psychedelics make you crazy dude. It’s hard to see it happening to you until you’re too far in to realize you’re a freak show
Joey has obviously been through a lot...but he is obviously still capable of discerning that his actions are wrong (hence why he has been trying to keep things out of the public eye). Hopefully the community response will shatter the delusion that he is RUclips's almighty judge, jury, and executioner!
Not to say what he did was in anyway justifiable but from experience psychosis , anti psychothics and drug abuse lead to lets say huh behaviors typical of this case
People really going through it absolutely are not obviously capable of discerning what is wrong, due to social stigmas of disability it's just as likely someone falls into a pananoid isolation and just wants to hide away, but accidentally keeps lashing out
@@AnthemUnanthemedNah taking away all responsibility from people due to “disability” is silly and infantilising, not to mention irrelevant in this case; it’s patently obvious that he’s still aware that what he’s doing would be perceived as wrong by others.
@@AnthemUnanthemed agreed, I don't see evidence that he realizes what he's doing. When someone is in the middle of psychosis, even mild, it can make it difficult to impossible to notice that they're acting in a way that is inappropriate. A key, key part of psychosis IS the lack of awareness. And sadly, no, you cannot just shake them out of it, they need professional medical help ASAP.
This is just a classic case of hostility bred from insecurity. Every adult is insecure and everything we do is a coping mechanism for that insecurity. When someone is overly hostile, that means that their own insecurity is being amplified. When it comes out of the blue, like in this case, its probably a 3rd party that's fueling the insecurity in the first place. Don't answer hostility with hostility.
@Chemiolis bro had an unfortunate experience with people who do drugs and took it on himself to police the lives of anyone he knows that does them, or anything related to their synthesis. Dude is a self righteous, insecure asshole. You get that vibe immediately from watching his content. As long as it's legal, and everything you did WAS LEGAL in your country, who the fuck CARES???!!! He's acting like he's everyone's dad and its insufferable.
I just remembered the first video I watched by him a few years ago. It was a critique on The action lab which I thought would be interesting, but all his points were petty and overly technical for content made for children. He wasn't exactly wrong in his critiques, but he seemed rather gloated in pleasure that the action lab was wrong about minor things. Gave me a negative vibe about him. Sucks to see how much worse he's gotten since
He actually asked a lot of people on his Discord whether or not he should go ahead with that one. It was a somewhat democratic decision, he proposed it and a lot of people pushed him to go forward.
That is exactly what came to mind for me. Anybody can choose to change at any time, but the established track record isn't very reassuring. Hope he comes to his senses soon.
The funniest part of that is the action lab is pretty much the only person I can think of in the science community who has a similar vibe where he comes across a bit arrogant though that chemist has always been so much worse about it, with action lab I feel like it's cause he's just super simplifying things so it's less arrogance and more that he really does understand the stuff and it's just super simplifies whereas that chemist feels like real arrogance and that he's trying to portray that he knows way more than he does. Like I never even watched his video about wanting RUclipsrs to test their stuff but just the way he marketed the video felt gross and like he was trying to cause harm to people's brands to the point I wasn't even willing to watch it
That Tierlist REALLY went too far by messaging Chemiolis' father and one of his employees (!). Why on Earth would you ever involve an EMPLOYEE of someone else's father?? The only thing I can think of is that he just wanted to ruin Chemi's reputation, mess with his father's business, cause some kinda family drama, or all three.
Nile has issues but as far as we know he is not abusive toward his workers. I haven’t heard anything negative about Tom so far except that his Discord server is quite toxic. We’ve had warnings about TC on the other hand for months but everybody ignored them. This is not some simple feud between Sam and Joey. ThatChemist has been doing this stuff for months at least.
@@Auroral_Anomaly it’s complicated but some members of the amateur chemistry community are upset that he hasn’t done much to give back to the community. Like he has thousands of dollars worth of equipment that he uses once and then just sit around. Meanwhile many members of the community are struggling to afford the basic glassware required to do chemistry at home. I’m not saying it’s Nile’s responsibility to give back it just feels like he lucked out when he got noticed and became super popular and he hasn’t looked back. I want to clarify that I personally do not take issue with Nile. I’m not the biggest fan of his videos just because he’s mostly pandering to an audience of non-chemists but that’s not a bad thing I’m just not interested.
Well, there's precedent in those 'pain scale' videos that popped up a year or so ago where some 'tuber would literally go find something like a bullet ant, intentionally be stung, and report the effects. I don't like this entire storyline... but if consequences are to be had, let them be had.
It's a damn shame that chemist has stooped to such a low level and shown his true colors with those bullshit copyright strikes. Props to chemiolis for having the courage to speak out.
well, i don't know if "true colours" is the good word to use, and i don't think chemilois used that phrasing either. chemicals can permanently change one's personality just like traumatic injuries. so IMO, the use of the word true colours may be leaning too far into witch hunt type language where "he was always that bad from the beginning" even without drugs, people can change
I think there's a bad friend. A 3rd party who's causing problems in his life and fueling insecurities that lead to coping mechanisms in the form of hostility towards softer targets. I've had a friend like that but at least I didn't let it get to me too much. Don't answer hostility with hostility since hostility is a product of insecurity and you're not going to solve the initial problem by fueling it.
I wouldn’t say that, Illuminaughtii just steals content and doesn’t seem to have any real credentials. TC does have actual credentials but is (allegedly) an exploitative asshole. It’s not like one is better or worse but they’re different enough.
He was interesting when he did the 5 papers from this month and practice organic questions. Then he changed to boring, subjective, and irrelevant tier lists
I didn't like him from the beginning. Look at His Videos Like "how i became a PhD" and so on. No good chemist need that kind of self promoting. He is absolutely narcissistic, arrogant and treacherous what He proved with His behaviour now. Awful Guy.

I know it's not a lot but I hope this can contribute to your legal costs in some way. I know what it's like to have a close friend take too much psychedelics one time, have a psychotic episode and then change for the worse forever afterwards and try to bring everyone down with them. It's both heartbreaking and infuriating, like you're fighting a demon who's possessed your friend's body. Hopefully Joey gets the reality check he needs, whether it's through psychiatric help or the consequences of his actions.

Definitely got that vibe. It's really strange to me though since research is a really humbling thing. I've never known anything more humbling. I work in a lab and even straight forward experiments can be hampered by any number of small things. I work in a materials engineering lab. We do a lot of electrochemical work. My favorite quote regarding psychedelics is “When you get the message, hang up the phone.” I was really into them a couple years ago, and they showed me some wonderful and amazing things. But after flying just a bit too close to the sun one time, I realized it’s time to put them down and move on with my life. Please be careful out there folks. Your brain chemistry is delicate, and the ledge above the pit of insanity is a lot narrower than you might think.
@@jogandspI don’t know if that’s true. But I haven’t tried psychedelics either. I also think some people might just be vulnerable to negative outcomes. But the only way to know is to take it and see
In terms of safety shrooms are probably the only ones that are worth messing with. LSD is waaayyy too potent in terms of serotonin reuptake inhibition, not to MENTION combining it with adhd medicine (guessing adderall). Would think someone with a phd in chemistry would have enough sense to learn about the risks of the drugs they take.
@-bamks Shrooms are still no joke. That’s the drug I took when I flew too close to the sun. Psychedelics need to be approached with respect. Doing otherwise is a really good way to get your ass handed to yourself by your own psyche..
There's not actually a way for YT to do that without taking on legal risk themselves. DMCA claim, then counterclaim, and the courts sort it out. YT can put a video back up after the counterclaim, but if they go beyond that they've left their safe harbor and have actually inserted themselves into the legal dispute. It's understandable they only ignore claims in the most extreme cases. The law didn't actually envision the kind of systemic copyright abuse and harassment we sometimes see on YT.
As someone who has multiple family members go off the deep end due to drug abuse (one committed identity theft of my mom) , this hurts to hear. Awful and unacceptable actions by that chemist.
It's really sad to see such disagreements in our community. I always imagined that chemtubers like That Chemist won't let their personal issues ruin the good work of others, but I guess I was wrong, all of this makes him seem like a real bad person (edit - Not that he was always bad, but based on his recent actions). I wish you success in tearing him down for what he has done and making a better chemtuber server :)
I don't believe him to be bad or evil. He's just profoundly broken and seriously needs help. Hurt people hurt people. Although this doesn't exuse any of his insane behaviors.
If anyone thinks that chemist reported him or had a problem with him die to him giving the mdma analog to his friend, this is not the truth. That chemist has collaborated with Hamilton Morris, who is notorious for self experimentation of novel, untested drugs. So he is just being petty
I ate half of pihkal and tihkal in the early 2000s and I question if most of them were tested beyond bp if that. Personal responsibility is a thing, I asked for any outcome that may have followed from my drug use.
@zechsblack5891 Yes I believe in freedom, and that people should be able to accept risks and experiemnt with any drug. I personally don't think any drug (beyond the ones that are so toxic that they could be used to discretely poison someone) should be legal. I'm curious about to PHIKAL and TIKAL experimentation. In hind sight, are there are chemicals that you regret doing? Do you regret all that self experimentation? Do you think there any chemicals with untapped potential for helping people?
This sounds like Amphetamine Psychosis more than anything. Mixing amphetamines and hallucinogens sensitizes you a LOT to amphetamine psychosis (MDMA/MDA is usually fine (compared to most others) as it's more a psychedelic than amphetamine in terms of effects, but still carries **some** risk). One common thing among people suffering from it is a peculiar obsession with powerful things, often things like god/religion or the police. Not necessarily in terms of Paranoia, but sometimes in that vein too. The added delusions of grandeur and whatnot also kinda coincide with that. It's a shame it happened to him but that doesn't mean you have to just sit there and take it. Hope he figures his shit out and gets back on the meds. Sorry you're having to deal with the fallout.
I can't say for certain from an actual brain chemistry standpoint but I feel like mdma would be safer than mda in that regards because mda feels a lot more like a normal amphetamine, mdma is very much more of a psychedelic but mda has a lot more stimulant properties than mdma oddly enough. Like you'd guess that mdma would be being built on a stronger amphetamine but good quality mdma just makes ya wanna lay around and chill like how mushrooms do whereas mda is a lot more stimulanty like how acid is compared to mushrooms
Isn't that usually temporary though? As in, whenever the amps consumption stops, the psychosis fades away. Unless its been years. Unless its more similar to some psychedelic induced psychosis
@@amogusenjoyerso psychosis can persist much longer because it’s a structural change in neural pathways more so than purely chemical. Amphetamines increase the susceptibility to forming those pathways (mostly through serotonin). Combined with psychedelics that also increase serotonin and especially encourage new pathways it’s a really high risk thing. If it was mild most people can correct it with time, but like most mental disorders it’s self reinforcing if severe enough.
@@amogusenjoyer ohhhh no. Not with how I'm referring to here. If it's just the effects of long term amphetamine usage, then that's just existing within the effects of amphetamines and your lived experience (no matter how deluded or false) of life through the fucked lens of amphetamine abuse stacking up over time. I wouldn't quite call that psychosis. What I'm referring to is when there's actual systemic breakdown, whether via a breakdown/scrambling of signaling within the brain (whether due to degeneration of neurons or just unrecoverable signaling issues), or what @-bamks mentioned about the generation of new pathways under a bad or metaphorically/literally toxic environment. Sometimes it's permanent, but usually it needs medical intervention. Rarely, to my knowledge, does it just clear up. Often, people who experience it, regardless of the intensity, just don't get help due to fear of being committed (because often those care centers are horrifically abusive and almost worse than most prisons. Almost everyone I know who has been has come out more traumatized than they went in.), and then they just end up sustaining even more brain damage from their brain misfiring to the point of destruction. It's just fucked.
@@noodlelynoodle. So, MDMA actually breaks down into MDA in the liver. MDA has a lower molar weight, so in a gram of the substance, you're getting more molecules of the drug in the same weight. I believe the difference comes from it being stronger within the same dosage, but also taking longer to work its way through your system due to the missing methyl group. Either way, their primary effect is just hitting the dump switch on your serotonin network and slamming the pedal through the floor (it effects adrenal and dopaminergic systems, but to more an incidental than intentional degree). This is why sex (especially the climax) on either is often incredibly difficult/impossible as your brain struggles to/can't push the pedal any harder to keep it up/gather the signaling for the spike of an O. However, with Meth, for example, it has a much, MUCH larger effect on your dopamine network, and is known for actively creating new (bad) connections within that network as it actively rewires your reward pathways (among others). The average adult brain only has 6000-8000 neurons in the dopamine network, so it's pretty sensitive to alterations, whereas serotonin receptors are EVERYWHERE around the body, from your brain to the lining of your gut (hence why MD(M)A often gets you a little nauseated on the comeup. Serotonin receptors in there are ramping up and cross through the signaling associated with nausea). And as a side note about the sensitivity of the dopamine network, to draw another example of how sensitive it is (⚠️trigger warning: CSA mentioned⚠️), did you know that victims of CSA (primarily those assigned male at birth) often become hypersexual because that part of the tiny dopamine network gets fried from being activated too early and can more or less (gross oversimplification here) get stuck permanently on? Doesn't happen to everyone, but it's literal brain damage. The effect is (tmk) most frequent with younger victims (pre-pubescent), but it's absolutely nuts that it basically forces an overclock on unfinished silicon and scuffs it.
Regarding the psychosis, I'd like to make a note from a psychiatric perspective. I would categories the effect of acute psychosis as one where disordered and chaotic associations, and perceptions affected by over representation of these associative patterns, alters or creates belief structures that persist beyond the acute state. This is to say that, there is no fundamental change in brain "chemistry", but more a rewiring has occured, some of which may be enlightening, but also be much more likely to lead to delusions and false beliefs. It is a change in brain state that persists rather than a change in function.
My 2 cents from someone that has ‘broken’ under the effects of LSD and is relatively aware of my mind. I don’t think there’s enough time under the curve in a single to really form enough new connections to be the explanation. It’s just shown you ways of thinking that are very different, and you probably wouldn’t be able to get there naturally without meditation or an imbalance. BUT if you have been taken there you can encourage them to happen again. It’s software, not hardware. That being said you repeatedly keep encouraging those circuits over time it’s likely to result in a rewire.
@@geekswithfeet9137 yes, I agree. I was simplifying a bit for the sake of brevity, but you are quite right that the acute experiences are statistically very brief. The glimpses from perception while experiencing a drug can have a significant or discordant enough of an impact, that they don't leave the mind after the effects of the drug have worn off. In terms of psychosis, for example, the feeling of having glimpsed a hidden reality/patterns/meanings during a drug induced episode can in turn lead to symptoms such as paranoia, delusions of grandeur, or the belief of thought insertion/extraction.
@ I can’t speak for everyone either….. but psychosis was a very extreme experience that has an weird allure. I believe I could have chosen to stay if I wanted. I think some people didn’t take the opportunity to break the cycle at the end of the drug induced part. Of course some are very susceptible in the first place, and it’s hard to unsee what has been seen. But I feel there are plenty of people that kept entertaining the state by choice.
Classic psychiatry here or in other words "subjective effects have occurred via subjective mechanisms that we are unable to measure but I conclude it because it is my opinion" 😂
This paints a picture of such a serious issue and you handled it so respectfully and truthfully. Never have given a dono thru a youtube comment before, but I feel compelled to do so. Like you said I think psychedelics can be therapeutically good to an extent, but if it literally drives you crazy and detaches you from reality to the point where you don't know what is real or not, it is dangerous and stupid. More awareness needs to be brought to this kind of stuff. Thank you!
i think its important he noted it was a 3x dose, because i smoke weed since its legal and occasionally maybe sometimes can get some shrooms, and i was just thinking, what kind of mf idiot takes a 3x dose and expects to be okay afterward? like i would try a _little bit_ of lsd when im in my right set and setting, cause my 5g shroom trip once was sick, i was thinking about music and then i see a blob of rainbow on my piano jumping from note to note, and i played and recorded the notes he landed on and the next day i arranged the rhythm and it sounded decent tbh. but i know how to increment dosage slowly. and i smoke about 1g of bud per day, so thats like a small joint
People need to be careful with psychedelics. I have seen them mess up plenty of people first hand. Most recovered, but many are still dealing with the consequences. Dont go testing the limits. I have also seen people turn into egotistical maniacs, who think they are an authority on everything from this
I believe that these drugs can be incredibly helpful to cure someone from certain illnesses like depression and I am super acceptive of their use and hopefully future professional use. But without proper guidance it seems people try it, get some feeling of enlightenment and want more and more and more. At that point you are altering your internal brain restructure permanently or even damaging certain cells ability to produce and interact with the right (amount of) neurotransmitters. The brain is a slow system in terms of healing, and it takes a long time to bounce back after using such strongly impacting drugs, it is barely regenerative and any damage is mostly permanent. For some people this change can be positive, putting them in a better state, but for most I see it just pushes them towards some kind of delusion where they think they are enlightened, know best and can do anything.
@Chemiolis Yea, i recommend doing a psychedelic no more than once a year. And especially more (or not at all) if you are young. I know first hand that they are incredible substances that can help mentally with alot of things. But people need to realize that these things have limits and can only do so much. Sorry, your comment just reminds me so much of a guy in South Park saying "I used to do drugs. I still do. But I used to too!" 😂 Jokes aside, he already came across really off-putting with his arrogance years before all this. I think the personality plays a huge role in the development here.
I have to say that this whole topic makes me sad. Not your response of course, I'm sorry you're going through this. I really enjoyed the various videos That Chemist made and appreciated his idea of using more analytical approaches within his videos. Also, ironically in this case, his literature review videos were informative and something different from the practical chemistry side that is popular. I was wondering why he stopped making as many videos. To find out that it seems he's really struggling with some mental health issues, self-inflicted or not, is a real shame. My brother struggled with mental health and it eventually led to him passing away. I really hope that TC manages to make a recovery and get his life back on track. I don't see clear evidence that he realizes what he's doing. When someone is in the middle of psychosis, even mild, it can make it very difficult to impossible to notice that they're acting in a way that is inappropriate. Yes, even if you tell them. Sorry to hear about all of this . I'm 52 and have seen a few people spiral out of control because of abuse so I feel you man.. You're a brilliant young man with a bright future..Who knows you might end up being the next Alexander Shulgin.. This is just a small bump in the road
I hope he gets the support he needs. Psychosis can be very tough, especially when it is induced by a crime, as people are inclined to be sceptical of what you've gone through.
This is very very tragic and very close to home for me. one of my cousins who i am close with suffered a catastrophic reaction to a massive dose of LSD at a music festival in the 70's. no one had any idea where the LSD came from and they could never even determine why it "fried her brain." There is a medical term for what happened, but we always just called "fried". Its the only real explanation. She went in person A and came out person Z when she "recovered" and was never the same for the next 40 years of her life. with ONE exception. She had an absolutely massive seizure that nearly killed her a few years ago. She survived the seizure and it was like her brain had reset and she was 20 years old again before she had drug induced psychosis. My only regret for this was not spending even more time talking with her. She was fully aware that she had spent the last 40 years mentally fried and she was just kind of in awe that the veil was lifted. The doctors said such a thing can happen with seizures like she had and that she will slowly revert to being "fried" again. It took about 3 months for her to go back to fried mode, but i at least got a few holidays with her as her true self. I love my cousin and her life was completely destroyed by getting in with friends that were willing to rip massive doses of acid from a complete stranger. The only advice i could give for someone who has a friend or loved one that has a permanently changed personality is that you can only manage them now. you have to learn to set firm boundaries and learn to be extremely firm with them, even be an asshole to them. The person may now try to steal from you, may even try to hurt you or other people. You may not be able to trust them in the same way. but they are still a person and part of them is still in there and they still deserve dignity and care. and it takes way more than a few people to help care for someone who's brain is fried like that. if you are lucky they can care for themselves, but that may not be possible. Its kind of like having a friend die, but only half dead. its very hard to explain unless you experience it
In Canada they love to raid labs for no fing reason, my lab been raided twice, but props to the lab investigators they didn't trash my lab or damage any thing.
Looks like you did the right thing here. Keep on working on your stuff and don’t let the past bother you. Hopefully he will get better as time goes on.
Less is more with psychedelic drugs. Alexander Shulgin described them as his “low calorie martini”, and I certainly wouldn’t want to down 5 martinis in a row every time I drank them.
That is absolutely moronic. Alcohol in ANY amount is FAR more dangerous for you in pretty much EVERY SINGLY WAY compared to ANY classical psychedelic. It is literally neurotoxic in ANY AMOUNT. In fact many psychedelics have been empirically proven to encourage neurogenesis. Please stop spreading misinformation. If people did shrooms instead of drank beer the world would be a way better and safer place, and drug related deaths/mental disorders would go WAY down.
Especially MDMA with SSRIs or MAOIs as you can die from survere seratonin syndrome! But mixing LSD or shrooms with anti psyc meds is also a terrible terrible idea too. ADHD meds are basically just speed, so there's not so much of a huge danger with mixing that with any of the afformention substances, like it wont have a guarenteed negative reaction in the body like the other combos I mentioned, but it's still really not wise as it still can cause mental health issues in some specific peoples brain chemistry.
@@dman5909really, the risk of SS is overblown on anything other than MAOIs. It’s risky for sure, but a normal dose is very likely safe (relatively). SS isn’t as big of a deal as people make it out to be, it’s a spectrum and you can pretty easily identify that you’re approaching it. Mild supportive care is extremely effective.
Some mental health drugs against depression just makes lsd not work.. i remember once me and a friend took acid together.. i got bent as hell but he felt nothing. He was taking remeron (i think) and it seemed like it just made the lsd not function. Either that or his blotter was not soaked.
Odd story - I'm an old retired guy with decades of practical experience in the field. I followed him for a while but unsubbed when I concluded he was off the straight and narrow. Among adults the art and craft of chemistry is used to do useful things. I became convinced that he and his followers were essentially kids playing with chemistry vs responsible adults. I would have predicted a different end game, but this end game sounds well within the realm of the possible. Hope y'all can hug it out and move on.
@@maymkn So far it sounds like mean girl drama on one side vs. an adult I'm concerned the whole genre will get stained with the censor-happy YT overlords and they will come down hard on any chemical content because we are all strung out junkies or Walter White cooking in an RV.
I have seen a lot of people saying that, "that chemist"s videos were bad anyways (referring to the tier lists) but I really liked his vids. Being a chem student I always learnt something new with his videos in a fun way. It's a shame to see someone fall victim to drug abuse and do such things... Hopefully that chemist understands the gravity of the situation and gets professional help because judging by what you said in this video this all started to happen after he had to be hospitalized due to drugs. Anyways we are all with you chemiolis ❤
This exactly, people love kicking someone who's already down and be self-righteous but the truth is he is clearly mentally unwell and having some kind of psychosis. Does that excuse his behavior? No not at all, but some of these comments are absolutely ruthless, like how "his videos were always sucked" and how "his appearance screams a bad person"... One can criticize his behavior without lacking empathy.
I’m wondering if he’s just unlucky enough to be one of the rare cases of psychedelics triggering the onset of schizophrenia. Combining that with amphetamine abuse, it seems even more likely. Both classes of drugs have been theorized to cause early onset of latent schizophrenia IIRC. Worth noting, I haven’t done any research into this area in about 10 years so my info might be out of date.
@@-bamks Is there evidence for psychedelic use (or short-term amphetamine abuse) causing long-term psychosis or mania, though? My understanding is that both can only cause long-term effects if use is continued after onset or if it triggers latent schizophrenia.
@@pyromen321 The point is that as an educated person, he should understand the risks. He should know his family medical history and his predispositions. If you are a healthy person, you have to do a lot of things wrong to get to this stage.
@@Dqtube I’m not defending him. You can feel bad for someone without considering them a victim. Not everyone knows the medical history of their entire lineage. And even if you’re fully knowledgeable and decide to take that risk, it sucks for the people who get unbelievably unlucky. Plus, family dynamics are tricky. Sometimes there’s just some oddball distant relative that you don’t hear much about and it turns out they have severe mental illnesses
@@pyromen321 That the point if you do not know the history you are unable calculate the risk. In that case you should not risk it at all or follow rules( do not mix, do not use high doses, do not use unknown purity) even more strictly. Dude always kinda came off as a jerk. Feel free to take whatever you want but you've got to deal with the consequences of your actions. Not cool of him to do what he's done.
Claiming copyright on a chemical synthesis (or any other method) is just bonkers. These can be only patented (or might fall under other 'industrial rights', but these generally have to be registered, and definitely shouldn't be asserted through YT's copyright claim system). The only thing that falls under copyright in this case is the paper itself (ie. its text, images, any accompanying source code, etc - not the concepts explained within).
Also, technically if you don't sell or give away patents you can follow them. Patents are a right on making a monopoly of a new product. If you don't sell or provide the product to others, you're not breaking the monopoly
Well, I definitely had the sense the Dr was “in society with” people he should keep out if he wanted to be healthy, and it seemed like it might have to do with the stream/YT.

This sent me
Ha-ha-ha actually lower than that, in the sh*t tier.
D tier for demonizing acid. We love acid!

I was really into them a couple years ago, and they showed me some wonderful and amazing things. But after flying just a bit too close to the sun one time, I realized it’s time to put them down and move on with my life.
Please be careful out there folks. Your brain chemistry is delicate, and the ledge above the pit of insanity is a lot narrower than you might think.
That's why I don't use them at all. There are plenty of ways to "learn" anything you might from psychedelics without risking your sanity
Nah bruh gimme that hero dose of psilo and a few addies for good measure
RUclips needs to punish people who make false Copyright Claims by demonetizing their videos and preventing them from making strikes in the future.
They can remove a person's ability to submit claims , but usually that requires excessive abuse to do. It's rather rare.

Well, I wish Hamilton never did that pod cast, it was boring and Joey came across as a ego dick.
Facts. I wonder whether Joey was predisposed to this kind of episode or was it the ADHD stimulant and psychedelic combo?
It is a change in brain state that persists rather than a change in function.
thank you
My 2 cents from someone that has ‘broken’ under the effects of LSD and is relatively aware of my mind.
Thank you!

And especially more (or not at all) if you are young. psychosis, even mild, it can make it very difficult to impossible to notice that they're acting in a way that is inappropriate. Yes, even if you tell them. Trying to convince them doesn't work. A key part of psychosis IS precisely the lack of awareness.

Less is more with psychedelic drugs. Alexander Shulgin described them as his “low calorie martini”, and I certainly wouldn’t want to down 5 martinis in a row every time I drank them.
shulgins comment was in reference to MDMA, however your point still stands.

You would think a chemist would know not to put weird chemicals in your body but apparently not
Nah, chemists get the good shit.
Me when I phosgene.
Usually the substance inclined people don't make it to the end. Or very far for that matter. (From my experience)
“i talk to you more than my wife!” first red flag lol
yeah, the videos he did with his wife were always off to me
messaging your dad is CRAZY. does he think he’s a high school counselor? wtf??
Since he is almighty Dr. Newton, I think indeed he does
This is wild
Jesus man I hope you are alright. I have always thought you were one of the most logical and level headed chemistry RUclipsrs. I would have never guessed ThatChemist would do such things.
Happy you are not getting caught up in too much nonsense. You deserve success. Thanks for making chemistry accessible AND enjoyable for tens of thousands of people.
I'm a biologist, he suggested that water is at a B-tier in a solvents rating, this deeply disappointed me, apon which leading to my planting of several hallucinogenic producing flora, and fungi respectively- ultimately this may have led to him developing these odd behaviours as described. Apologies to all.
ah yes we for sure love copyright strikes when nothing was copied peak youtube logic
It's a bit unsettling YT just straight up takes it down immediately
As they say, the worst part about doing drugs is finding religion
No one says that, cringe reddit atheist.
i smoke weed 26 years and during all this time i was friend with many drug addicts. had chance to try everything but never ever even dared to go that way... i lost many friends (some dead, others who are wishing to be dead) to drugs. its sad to see that even nowadays with so much information available, intelligent people still fall into the dark hole of drugs.
Especially guys educated in the discipline with access to all the literature possible.
This is the kinda shit that terrifies me and why I won't ever do drugs. Just crazy that you can have something so drastically change your personality like that off of just consuming something
Much depends on genetics… if u don’t have any schizophrenia etc in ur family history ur probably pretty safe.
For what it's worth, psychotic breaks also happen sometimes as a result of meditation, which is a very worthwhile pursuit in many cases
You are already doing drugs as psychoactive chemicals are literally everywhere. And everything can change your whole personality just like that. It's not just the drugs. Also, it's never just the drugs. There's always some deeper psychological, neurological or even socioeconomic issues behind. But yeah of course don't take substances that you are not comfortable taking, especially if you don't understand and accept all the risks.
Don’t let these dorks convince you otherwise, drugs are exactly what you think
I’ve done pot, booze, Adderall, Vyvance, Meth, and shrooms
Never was a big fan of any of them, they’re just plain bad for you and all claimed benefits are either imagined or completely achievable in much much safer ways
Don’t do drugs
@@lagrangiankid378 That is simply not true and there are very good reasons most of the stuff is illegal. It's like saying "Oh, getting shot is not a problem. Only when you get hit in a vital organ"
"That chemist" Was that guy with these Tier List videos, bashing on amateur chemist community and demanding everyone Big Lab analysis notes on their products? Good grief I sent him to my Yt black list like 2 years ago.
This explains why he deleted the can you really trust chemolios video
I've seen his tier lists and got the distinct impression he doesn't know as much as he'd like us to think he does.
He took a weird sponsorship which made me despise him already, glad to see i'm not being hyperbolic
Really sorry to hear this happening to you- you make great videos and are a great chemist. I even bought some of your Geosmin a while back, it's crazy to me that this chud is going to these lengths to be petty. Be smart with substances, everybody. Lower your risk if you choose to partake.
🦅"Now obviously, if you have a Chemistry channel, you're gonna want a good lawyer. But if you want a great lawyer, you can let my law firm The Eagle Team...."
Yikes, this was a lot worse than I ever suspected. Good luck on the copyright battle, and smart thinking with contacting the university and publisher.
There will be no battle. I just hope Chemiolis will be compensated for the financial loss and hope he is not dependent on YT.
Amphetamine + LSD sounds like a really bad idea and a recipe for schizophrenia.
On top of that he's literally the age at which schizophrenia usually manifests in men.
This is ridiculous. I haven't any published papers being only 3 years into 6 years of a masters degree, but I really wouldn't care if people used my research.
People are supposed to use your research, that’s why you publish it. It’s called peer review
@SixOhFive Exactly, suing people for using your research as a source is stupid and counter to the point of publishing a paper anyway.
Man you are more than justified, you tried the way of appeasement more than once, now go all in
“That would be a waste of resources *coughs America*
Honestly, if you think hallucinogens are enlightening, you were simple to begin with. They can help you sort out life's problems etc. but saying you're "enlightened" is such rookie drug behavior.
as a psychadelic enjoyer, they can feel really profound, but it's always the people who are saying theyre "enlightened" that go off the deep end. I've had some really huge introspective experiences, but I'm conscious that I'm just in an altered mental state, not contacting a higher plane of existence or getting secret knowledge about the universe or some shit.
Remember people, having a PhD doesn't equal to being mature and apparently being smart as well
It's kind of sad that he turned out like this, I stopped watching his videos since about half a year because I started noticing a change that displeased me in his videos and more generally on the way he talked and adressed to people and things they accomplished.
It's sad that he's still on his way down to these kind of stuff
I agree with your drug comment.
NEVER MIX DRUGS. ESPECIALLY ADHD MEDS. They ampifly pyschidellic drugs a lot.
Some of them can actually harm you in the wrong combination.
they amplify anxieyt
Or just don't do hard drugs ever and never worry about this
Man sam im sorry you had to go through this but im glad this information is out there now. I have alot of respect for the way you handled this. keep making videos man they are incredible and always a very cool synthesis!
I guess he's breaking bad, just not in the right way .
stimulants and hallucinogens WCGW
There's actually a worse combination: lithium and hallucinogens. It's almost guaranteed psychosis in high enough doses of each.
I unsubbed from him a while ago because he linked some Christian proselytizing video he made in a school fellowship. 😂
This is icing on the cake.
This is some pretty unhinged shit. I wonder what started all the drama in the first place.
Just his mental state thinking he should combat all drug releated content or something
Dude always kinda came off as a jerk. Feel free to take whatever you want but you've got to deal with the consequences of your actions. Not cool of him to do what he's done.
I deeply enjoyed you calling him Mr. Newton in your email, after he constantly signs his Dr. 😂 I'm sure that was an ego hit
Lmao
Heh, yeah. 99+% of chemists don't give a shit about being addressed with Dr.
''...so see you in court...''
Mic drop... (sound of screeching feedback)
😂
Absolutely insane hearing all this drama all at once. A lowly biochem undergrad thanks you for your service
I love how you calmly present documented evidence and screenshots of literally every claim you make to back them up and prove all your points. Joey has completely lost his mind and I honestly feel sorry for him at this point and hope he gets the help he needs.
What a shame that there's even drama in chemistry RUclips. You guys seem like such a wholesome group. I love your stuff chemiolis and love learning stuff on your channel
Where there are people, there will be drama
I STAN with chemiolis!! Dude this is sad... Josiah had already shown signs of this kind of shit, listen the Hamilton morris podcast with him and he talks about ruining a Brasilian guy who published fake articles and though that was a legitimate case, Josiah just wanted to roast him and humilliate him without even talking to him
As a dutchie with a background in chem (and experience with "mind expansion" and the hazards) I'm proud of you. I hope Joey gets help, the ego inflation etc does happen more often than ppl think yea.. idk what part of it is envy of your talent and content, I've been kicked off of a discord before of someone who just couldn't fathom that I knew better about something fundamental (to mycology). It's sad
He had an enormous ego long before this.
This week in chemistry: organic beef
