Watching you off road in your Tesla is by far my favorite part ❤ I love your videos and I’m so impressed by what you’ve done and how beautifully you capture the scenes. I’m so inspired!! If you’re ever in eastern wa I would love to join you!
First time watching your videos. Amazing visuals and great choice of music to tie the content nicely. I recently picked up a 2024 MYLR. I do have a family with 2 kids and my car has a 7-seat configuration, but I'm trying to find ideas on how to best mod it to suit a family of 4 needs when out in the wilderness. I'll continue to watch, and thanks for sharing!
Thank you! If you ever build a platform for your 7-seater, the best way to secure It might be utilizing the child seat mount locations. Happy adventures with your family!
I have experimented somewhat with my 2023 Y using power directly from the DCDC output. It can easily handle high power, but the PCS doesn’t like power going somewhere that it can’t account for. I got a few warning messages when I checked service mode. It refused to do a software update. I disconnected everything I added and it went back to normal. The newer cars also go into a sleep mode where it turns off the DCDC. After lots of experiments and testing, I figured using a power station is the best solution. I top it off from the car any time I drive or camp (when climate control is running) but all devices that need power are drawing from the power station. My cooking, fridge, Starlink, laptop, camera battery chargers are all fed from the power station. The other advantage is that I have an emergency backup to charge my car should I run out. Yes it’s very little, but I ran out of battery on my car less than a mile away from a charger. All I needed was a little boost. Indeed I had to call a tow truck.
Awesome fridge hack! The real proof will be how long the replacement LV 12v battery lasts, that will give a comparison. I’m checking out a Company called Clayton Power who makes lithium powered systems for the electricity, communications and gas industry. If you want to run 230v power tools in your van, Clayton has an all in one solution for portable power. They do stuff for boats, industry and now campervans and you can charge it up from shore power, vehicle alternator or solar. I shall report on progress……
I just have my 12V fridge freezer plugged into the 12v socket inside the car under the armrest. It does seem more convenient to wire it up the way you've done it, and also saves more interior space, but as you've said, it also kinda voids the warranty of the car.
The 12v system won't stay on when the vehicle goes to sleep. I do the same as you, but keep my Ecoflow battery in between them. So it goes Fridge-->EF-->car. The EcoFlow will then charge itself back up whenever the car is awake. The benefit of connecting directly to 12v is so it will remain powered even when the car is asleep.
@@JohnBarber I too am living in my Tesla and drive it to make a living. So the the car never gets a chance to go to sleep. Longest I tend to be away from the car is maximum 2 - 2.5 hours when I go to the movie theatre, but it never goes to sleep as I still find the fridge still on.
@@LivinginTesla I've heard that as well, but testing it myself with Sentry enabled as well as with Cabin Overheat Protection enabled and my fridge would still turn off. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but it is nice to have the reassurance of the EcoFlow to rely on, especially since I will need it for other things anyway.
Hi Jimmy, thanks for the great video. Do you now use a second version of the original? Could you tell me what kind of device you have for the induction plate (black round part on top, think intermediate plate for aluminum cookware)? I would also be interested in your battery for induction ;-) Keep it up! Thank you very much. Always great to watch your videos. The view is also magnificent! Many thanks.
Hi Marion! I'm still using my first gen launch edition original. The black round thing on top of the induction is just a slip resistant rubber/silicone! Aluminum cookwares are not compatible with induction cooktops, the pot and pan that I use are made with stainless steel. You can find the battery I'm using in this video: ruclips.net/video/ZazMot81jl4/видео.htmlsi=mf4rAjzOZLZFkSWX I think EcoFlow is the more popular band, so you might want to look into that instead!
The fridge shouldn't affect the life of the deep cycled AGM battery. I have 2000W inverter hooked up to it and I have almost 100k miles on the original battery. DON'T replace it with lithium-ion battery, btw. It has different electrical characteristics, and your fridge may no longer work with it. A fridge is only 50W at the most though, so it may not make a difference. The holes you drilled will make the frunk no longer waterproof. Go through a deep water, you could end up with wet frunk. I used cable glands to make it waterproof the holes that I drilled for 1 AWG cables. The ventilation is one of the reasons I didn't put fridge in the frunk.
I replaced it with the same deep cycle and was pretty sure that third party li-ion is a no go, thanks for the note! No water has gone into the frunk so far from all the rainy weather in PNW and the car will never be able to wade that high in the first place, so I’m okay with it!
@@TKSung I must have been unlucky or picked a bad inverter. After connecting a 1000W Pure Sine Wave inverter directly to the 12v and powering Starlink (~50w average draw) for about 18 hours, I got the same battery error and had to replace it. Now granted, my car was probably still on the original battery and was about 65k miles at the time, so it may have simply been the straw that broke the camels back.
@@JohnBarber yeah they say it lasts between 40k and 80k miles. I've been exceptionally lucky. I'm replacing it when I get home though. Getting dead in the water with 12v failure is the last thing I need.

NICE! i recently bought a similar fridge but placed in the frunk!
Nice! You meant the trunk?
still amazed how you get those angles and drone shots!!

Interesting. If I’m correct, I think the car stays awake as long as sentry is on.

Most camping fridges go from 12 to 24 Volt. They can easily handle the higher voltage of the newer Teslas.
Yes, probably. However, the newer Teslas seem like they have a proprietary connector.

I want to get one but don’t want to keep it in the front trunk… Is there any reason why I can’t plug it in the back? I have a 2023 model.
You can totally plug it to the trunk/center console 12V!
That high voltage connector is finicky. I forgot how I did it but it does release with a clip.
Yeah, so strange. I was able to release the red clip but the connector was still stuck
Curious where this was filmed. Looks like eastern Washington State.
