I always thought the whole Genghis Khan ancestor trope in Asia was similar to that of Charlemagne's in Europe. And I find it ironic that even though nobody believed Genghis' heir was his spawn (due to his wife being held in captivity when she got pregnant) and ridiculed the kid for it, Genghis always stood by him and pressed the fact that he was indeed his lawful son.
it was based on mathematical hypothesis(exponential growth) that if no one ever cheated anybody in the history of the world then going back there would be more people in your families tree by the time of Charlemagne then there was people born on this planet ever...the hypothesis suggested we are morally bankrupt or we never had any morals at all but like to think of our self as better beings(soul is also a concept that tries to make us better then we are.....
It's kind of amazing that the Hazaras still exists as a distinct ethnic group in Afghanistan, their physical appearance certainly stood out compared to the other ethnicities.

First of all proud to be Hazara. We hazaras have many tribes that differentiate between eachother such as when turkomongol warriors came to persia and present day afghanistan pakistan etc . because of the distance to go back to central asia and mongolia was Long, Hazaras took local wifes from wherever they were stationed, Thats what makes the hazaras and central asians Such a cluster of different ethnic group mixed in one.
The Hazaras have a more Mongolian based culture and take pride on their ancestors linked to genghis khan than any other culture in the region who share East Asian feautures and physical attributes. I am sure that with subsequent research, their ancestors linked to genghis will be uncovered.
I'm Hazara, I did a DNA test to find out if we're really Mongolian. I got 43% Mongolia, 23% Afghan, 18% Iran, 7% North China, 5% North India, and 4% Korea.
Well, this only includes male line descendants. So if one of Ghengis' descendants had a daughter, and that daughter had a child, that child is not a male line descendant of Ghengis, but still a descendant.
That is true; however, the 2003 study which popularized the claim (and the version that gets repeated all the time) focused on the Y haplogroups and the paternal ancestry (and hence why people often phrase it as "every 1 in 200 men in Asia today is a descendant of Chinggis Khan). The video looks specifically at the argument around y haplogroups popularized and repeated in recent media. Obviously Chinggis would have many, many descendants living today, descended from him through male and female lines. Male lines are more prone to die out as men are not as likely to reproduce as women, and cuckolding is also a factor. I thought the myth was about both male and female descendants, though.

I actually know a person who traces his lineage to Genghiz Khan. He is a Volga Tatar and his grandfather was a historian who in pre-Soviet times managed to find genealogical records tracing him to one of the khans of Kazan Khanate, who was a Genghizid.
Most of Genghis Khan children's are born as illegitimate and only a few are born as legitimate.. Your volga friend might be the illegitimate descendents of Genghis Khan.

Hello there. I would like to express my opinion as someone who has done research on this subject before. If anyone has more information, please reply to me. From what I researched, a genetic test on a member of the Yuan dynasty revealed haplogroup C2. Also, as stated in the video, descent from Genghis Khan was often not ethnic but political. In other words, those who ruled Central Asia after the Chagatai Khanate did not come from Genghis Khan genetically, but they claimed this politically. Also, according to Familytree DNA, the Timurid haplogroup was J2. So as a result, in my general memory, the borjigin was not racial, ethnic, but political. I hope more research will be done in the future and we will know the facts for sure without any doubt.

This comes from a mistranslated statement by Rashid al-Din (d.1318), the Ilkhanid vizier, who wrote that Chinggis commented that Khubilai did not have a ruddy (reddish) complexion like himself. This was misunderstood by some people as Chinggis referring to red hair, but it actually refers to having red facial features- a common occurrence for people who spend their lives in the wind exposed steppe. So quite the opposite of pale skin Regardless , Rashid was born years after Chinggis' death, and there is no detailed description of him from his life.

Like, there have been studies saying that people of northen Spain have more in common with north African ancestors, leftovers from the Muslim invasion, than people from southern Spain. The main point is that it hasn't been PROOVED that Genghis Khan is the ancestor of millions, because they can't identify his genes. But he still can be. And NOT by impregnating every women he sees any time he wasn't horse riding, eating or sleeping. But by his lawful and (possibly countless) bastard sons and their descendants were top candidates for marriages among the nobility of the nomad peoples even after the fall of the Mongol Empire.

Take this simple math and you will see how stupid that idea is: When one city was taken, let's say its typical civilian population was around 200.000. All was forced into slavery. In that number, let's say around half was female, then about half was at the age of possible reproduction. Then again, maybe only another half of that would be worth considering as gifts for the mighty Khan. Meaning they have left about 25 thousand "decent" women ripe and ready for him (let's theoretically assume he would have sex with them all eventually... yuck) Now is the interesting part: Let's again assume our mighty Khan was truly the ultimate reproduction machine, he could have sex with 10 concubines every day (yes, 10 times/day). He would still need to keep on doing so consistently in (25k/10) 2500 days. Thats almost 7 years. 7. Years. For one city. I don't need to continue to know how many more cities did he need to keep on doing so in order to reach the goal of impregnating 8% women of the whole world. Simply a joke

According to that theory, I could say the same: every 8% of the world's population nowadays actually have some kind of relation with EVERY SINGLE MAN who has been living in Asia at the same time with The Khan. I have a half-finished script about universal ancestors, and included a shout-out to Chinggis Khan not on the basis of haplotype, but just math; based on the number of generations back he lived, there's a pretty high chance that most people in central and east Asia are descended from him, though they wouldn't share his Y haplogroup because very few would be descended from him along an unbroken male line.
@anothaview I didn't even mention Southeast Asians lmao, and regardless, appearance has nothing to do with this, because being descended from an individual doesn't say anything about all your other ancestors. Each generation you go back, the number of ancestors doubles, so the significance of any one ancestor goes down. Chinggis Khan lived about 24 generations back if we estimate pretty long generations, so anyone descended from him would have at least 16,777,215 other ancestors in the same generation. The average person doesn't even look like any of their individual grandparents, so why would they look like one specific great great great great great [etc] grandparent?
@@SomasAcademy Your reasoning is logical from the mathematical point of view. This not only applies to Genghis, but to everyone else. However, it varies highly according to the number of children that were able to live enough to foster offspring in the following two generations of the given person.

I would suspect that Temüjin may have shared a common ancestor with other tribes in his near vacinity and thus when his Mongols started conquering or travelling through areas it would be possible for this haplogroup to be widly disperssed. There would be some descended from his own near relatives but it would be unlikely to be all. With Mongol inheritance the older siblings would herd in lands away from their father and the youngest would inherit the herd and area their father held. Thus it could be common for the neighbouring groups to be related for 3-600 years worth of male ancestory to cover the core period that the study shows.

Though at the same time, I'm pretty sure anyone from any of the Toluid and Chaghatid lines would have married into a similarly insular local ruling group, maintaining some lineage, but keeping it relatively narrow within the scope of Mongol and Turco-Mongol "royalty". Some videos on what genetics have taught us about ancient Europeans, such as the Indo Europeans from the Steppe and the relatively advanced Neolithic European cultures that predated them! So much discussion on this topic is too dry and scientific. You guys would be amazing at bringing historical genetic terms like “Early European Farmer” and “Western Steppe Herder” to life and giving these people faces and depth!
Genghis Khan was believed to of sired between 1000 to 2000 children in his lifetime. Though this number might have been exaggerated as its hard to verify. Even so it is not impossible considering how he's not the only man in history to have fathered hundreds of children. Augustus II of Poland who was a prolific womanizer is believed to of had at least 400 children, most of whom were illegitimate. Even more impressively, a 17th century Moroccan Sultan, Moulay Ismail was reported to of had approximately 1171 children in total. However modern estimates puts this number down to about 868 children (525 sons and 343 daughters) in total, all of whom he sired with his 4 wives and about 500 concubines in his harem.
It is possible Chingis khan to have 16 million descendants. My great-grandfather have only 3 male descendants to his male lineage but 20 in total. So is the case with Chingis Khan.The son of his granddaughter is also his descendant.And so on.
The 16 million number isn't about descendants... its about direct male descendants. If there is a daughter anywhere in the line back to the Khan, it doesn't count.
Having the last name ‘Khan’ or ‘Kahn’ does not mean one’s line trace back to ‘Genghis Khan’. Also Chinese and Korean surname ‘Han’ or ‘Hahn’ are their version of Khan/Kahn. Khan’ or ‘Kahn’ simply means big. In the old days, all the Joe Blow village chiefs of Turks and Mongols were called Khan/Kahn. Adopting those words as surname was common. Also, having last name Khan likely means a Turk or a Mongol did one’s distant grandmother. There are many examples like ‘Ong’, ‘Wang’, ‘Hahn’, ‘Chi’, ‘Je’, ‘Chan Yu’, ‘Sunwoo’, ‘Qagan’, ‘Gurgan’. They all mean king or king of kings.
Seems like I am the only person from Hazara's tribe watching your channel. Interesting take Kings and Generals. I never fathomed you would cover this topic in such detail - well done. Growing up, I learned few different theories about our origins from my elders. The most predominant theory is that we are descendants of mongol army which invaded Afghanistan during or after changiz khan. Apparently their numbers were in thousands, hence, the word 'Hazara' from the word "Hazar" which means thousand. On the contrary, there might be few people who say they are the actual descendants of changiz khan. The other hypothesis is that 'Hazara's" and "turks" had common ancestry, the Turko-Mongols, hence to this day, there are common dialects and cuisines between the two cultures. What is the actual story, probably no one would know. But Hazara's do pride themselves on their ancestry based on their folklore. Maybe this could be another project for digging common cultural lineages back in history based on current science and evidence. Interestingly enough, just recently I realised that our numerical counting dialect is the same as Kurds (based in Iran, Iraq and Syria) and Baloch (based in easter Iran and Pakisan), although all three of them ( Hazara's, Kurd's and Baloch's) live in different regions and their dialects/culture are completely different.
I always though that was more of a linguistic/culture thing, since the the Persian/Iranic languages were widespread, long before the Mongols. Then Islam came into the mix and added Arabic words as well. I'm from the US and I have obvious Northern European heritage, but don't speak Swedish or German, though my ancestors who moved here 150 years ago did. Compare that with your people, who've been in what is now central Afghanistan for much much longer. There's obviously going to be linguistic and cultural influence, but at the same time being Shia Muslims and keeping your own identity probably maintained a your genetic heritage a lot longer. A friend of mine has Irish and Polish heritage, which is likely very different in their genetic origins, but since both cultures were Catholic, it it made sense that they'd mingle.
Autosomaly/genetically most hazaras are a mixture a of tajik-like individuals and Mongols. The region "Bamyan", which is nowadays mostly populated by hazaras, was mentioned in several Bactrian documents as a important stronghold.

The genetics of the Indo-Europeans are very controversial, I see many misconceptions there, I would really love a video on that topic as great and correct as this one!
It is also interesting topic how many Uralic (more exactly the original Ugric) related dna the Hungarians have, if it still exists. Because it is also disputed question if Hungarians used to shared genetic relationship with Uralic people or just it was a linguistic relationship. But a recent research has found a very small amount of Ugric related haplogroup in Hungary.

As all humans have a common ancestor. The most believed theory is that Homo-sapiens migrated from Africa to East Asia through the markings shown in the video. So basically, from East Africa to north Africa, north Africa to Middle East and to Central Asia and to the Himalayas and then up to the East Asia (all the while interbreeding with other species like Neanderthals and Denisovans). There is a hypothesis that can be a theory at the same time that Gautam Buddha and Temujin Genghis Khan shared a common lineage closer than most people would think. Buddha was born in a tribe called Shakya when the area was a part of Kirat Dynasty and although quite far in distance to current day Mongolia. Some of the Kirat explorers must have went up north. A few hundred years after the Buddha was born and Buddhism was established, there was a place called Sakya in current day Mongolia. Genghis Khan's father was from a Kiyad tribe, Genghis Khan's first wife's father was from Khongkirat tribe. Genghis Khan respected all religions and was mostly spiritual, his kins were all mostly Buddhists. There's more to add here but for now I shall share this amount.

The Hazara people are one of the most unique, if not the most unique ethnic groups in Central Asia. While the people carry the Mongolic gene more than any other people in the Middle East, Central and South Asia, they speak a dialect of Persian closely related to Dari dialect spoken in Afghanistan. Furthermore, while almost all the neighbouring people in the regions are Sunni, the majority of Hazaras are Shia. This has made them the target of nationalistic groups in the past, especially the Pashtuns, leading to many atrocities against them in the past century. Unfortunately the situation has become much worse when Taliban took over in 1996 and now 2021. As a Kurd, I wish them nothing but peace and happiness, even though thanks to people like Ashraf Ghani, Donald Trump and Joe Biden, the future seems grim for them.

They say he fathered alot of people in his day. Then consider how long ago that was and you might get a lot of present day Egyptians related to him. Or not..who knows.
Great channel, but one thing I want to clarify. Uyghur people are not Chinese people. Uyghurs are Turkic people in ethnicity, language, culture and identity. Uyghurs in China are separate from the Chinese Muslims. Uyghurs are Turkic Muslims.

I’m no expert in genetics at all, but I remember an article I read by Adam Rutherford, and he claimed that the last common ancestor for all Europeans lived only 600 years ago. Now Genghis Khan lived about 800 years ago, so I would guess that if the situation is similar in Asia, he should be an ancestor to a huge part of the billions living in Asia, way above the estimated 16 million. I have no way to prove that this is true, I just thought it was an interesting thought and worth a mention.

Technically I am related to Ghenkis Khan through Tamerlane of Timurids and Babur of Mughals, just when the British invaded India in the 1840s, what was left of Royal Family went into hiding from South into to Hindu Kush.

Great men of the past are both more likely to have lots of kids and have those live. He probably does have a number of descendants but comparable to other notable rulers.
@@jamieyoung9206 Yes, that's part of what made them great, as in consequential to human history. That's what the term means. They were better at it than anyone else around them and that was necessary in those times.
It doesn't matter what are race of the nobles. The nobles are always conscious of their blood line. This is because all these nobles have one thing in common. They claim to be "chosen one" to lead. Therefore, they are careful to choose their wives/concubines. Marriage is a form of alliances. Most of the time, they will choose from other nobles families to form alliances to consolidate their rule. Therefore, it is highly unlikely there are such a large number of Genghis Khan descendants.
Even without going into genealogical data the maths behind the claim would be hard to believe. Unless Genghis had super-human sperm and was able to impregnate a different women every day for 30yrs the likelihood that he'd have so many direct descendants now is very low.
While in Afghanistan I worked with an interpreter in Afghanistan who looked 'chinese', I asked him about it and he told me his people are called the Hazara and they were descendants of Chinggis.
I'm a Pakistani and I always assumed Hazaras were Mongoloid since I was just a teenager. They always appeared foreign in a crowd, exhibiting distinctly Mongolian features.
Looking beyond.. C is a pretty interesting haplogroup in itself, very ancient and is common ancestor to all out of Africa ethnicities, as A and B are the original Africans peoples ... Next is C! Australian Aborigines also have C.

I just checked about the Hazara people in Afghanistan, they don't really look East Asian but rather Eurasian, like they have Asian eyes but also fair skin and some of them apparently have light eyes. From the phenotype look, the Hazaras don't seem to be very "Mongolian looking" so to say...
Well that's obvious, since we Hazaras are descendants of both Turco-Mongols AND East Iranic people. We don't look like carbon copies of Mongols of course, because we are mixed. It's kinda similiar to how Mestizos were born in South America.

The one suggestion that I would make is to distinguish between "descendants" and "direct male descendants," as the term "descendants" is very broad and could refer to anyone who had Genghis Khan as an ancestor on either their mother or father's side. Y chromosomes are usually used in determining direct patrilineal heritage. Awesome video!

I always thought the whole Genghis Khan ancestor trope in Asia was similar to that of Charlemagne's in Europe.

Actually Hazaras know that they aren't Chinggis's Descendants. Hazaras are also tribal and many know they are descendants of regular Mongols.

That is true; however, the 2003 study which popularized the claim (and the version that gets repeated all the time) focused on the Y haplogroups and the paternal ancestry (and hence why people often phrase it as "every 1 in 200 men in Asia today is a descendant of Chinggis Khan). The video looks specifically at the argument around y haplogroups popularized and repeated in recent media. Obviously Chinggis would have many, many descendants living today, descended from him through male and female lines. I actually know a person who traces his lineage to Genghiz Khan. He is a Volga Tatar and his grandfather was a historian who in pre-Soviet times managed to find genealogical records tracing him to one of the khans of Kazan Khanate, who was a Genghizid.

Hello there. I would like to express my opinion as someone who has done research on this subject before. If anyone has more information, please reply to me. From what I researched, a genetic test on a member of the Yuan dynasty revealed haplogroup C2. Also, as stated in the video, descent from Genghis Khan was often not ethnic but political. In other words, those who ruled Central Asia after the Chagatai Khanate did not come from Genghis Khan genetically, but they claimed this politically. Also, according to Familytree DNA, the Timurid haplogroup was J2. So as a result, in my general memory, the borjigin was not racial, ethnic, but political. I hope more research will be done in the future and we will know the facts for sure without any doubt.

I have a half-finished script about universal ancestors, and included a shout-out to Chinggis Khan not on the basis of haplotype, but just math; based on the number of generations back he lived, there's a pretty high chance that most people in central and east Asia are descended from him, though they wouldn't share his Y haplogroup because very few would be descended from him along an unbroken male line.
@anothaview I didn't even mention Southeast Asians lmao, and regardless, appearance has nothing to do with this, because being descended from an individual doesn't say anything about all your other ancestors. Each generation you go back, the number of ancestors doubles, so the significance of any one ancestor goes down. Chinggis Khan lived about 24 generations back if we estimate pretty long generations, so anyone descended from him would have at least 16,777,215 other ancestors in the same generation. The average person doesn't even look like any of their individual grandparents, so why would they look like one specific great great great great great [etc] grandparent?

I would suspect that Temüjin may have shared a common ancestor with other tribes in his near vacinity and thus when his Mongols started conquering or travelling through areas it would be possible for this haplogroup to be widly disperssed. There would be some descended from his own near relatives but it would be unlikely to be all.
With Mongol inheritance the older siblings would herd in lands away from their father and the youngest would inherit the herd and area their father held. Thus it could be common for the neighbouring groups to be related for 3-600 years worth of male ancestory to cover the core period that the study shows.

Genghis Khan was believed to of sired between 1000 to 2000 children in his lifetime. Though this number might have been exaggerated as its hard to verify. Even so it is not impossible considering how he's not the only man in history to have fathered hundreds of children. Augustus II of Poland who was a prolific womanizer is believed to of had at least 400 children, most of whom were illegitimate. Even more impressively, a 17th century Moroccan Sultan, Moulay Ismail was reported to of had approximately 1171 children in total. However modern estimates puts this number down to about 868 children (525 sons and 343 daughters) in total, all of whom he sired with his 4 wives and about 500 concubines in his harem.

It is possible Chingis khan to have 16 million descendants. My great-grandfather have only 3 male descendants to his male lineage but 20 in total. So is the case with Chingis Khan.The son of his granddaughter is also his descendant.And so on.
The 16 million number isn't about descendants... its about direct male descendants. If there is a daughter anywhere in the line back to the Khan, it doesn't count.
Having the last name ‘Khan’ or ‘Kahn’ does not mean one’s line trace back to ‘Genghis Khan’. Also Chinese and Korean surname ‘Han’ or ‘Hahn’ are their version of Khan/Kahn. Khan’ or ‘Kahn’ simply means big. In the old days, all the Joe Blow village chiefs of Turks and Mongols were called Khan/Kahn. Adopting those words as surname was common. Also, having last name Khan likely means a Turk or a Mongol did one’s distant grandmother. There are many examples like ‘Ong’, ‘Wang’, ‘Hahn’, ‘Chi’, ‘Je’, ‘Chan Yu’, ‘Sunwoo’, ‘Qagan’, ‘Gurgan’. They all mean king or king of kings.

Growing up, I learned few different theories about our origins from my elders. The most predominant theory is that we are descendants of mongol army which invaded Afghanistan during or after changiz khan. Apparently their numbers were in thousands, hence, the word 'Hazara' from the word "Hazar" which means thousand. On the contrary, there might be few people who say they are the actual descendants of changiz khan. The other hypothesis is that 'Hazara's" and "turks" had common ancestry, the Turko-Mongols, hence to this day, there are common dialects and cuisines between the two cultures.
What is the actual story, probably no one would know. But Hazara's do pride themselves on their ancestry based on their folklore.
Maybe this could be another project for digging common cultural lineages back in history based on current science and evidence.
Interestingly enough, just recently I realised that our numerical counting dialect is the same as Kurds (based in Iran, Iraq and Syria) and Baloch (based in easter Iran and Pakisan), although all three of them ( Hazara's, Kurd's and Baloch's) live in different regions and their dialects/culture are completely different.
I always though that was more of a linguistic/culture thing, since the the Persian/Iranic languages were widespread, long before the Mongols. Then Islam came into the mix and added Arabic words as well. I'm from the US and I have obvious Northern European heritage, but don't speak Swedish or German, though my ancestors who moved here 150 years ago did. Compare that with your people, who've been in what is now central Afghanistan for much much longer. There's obviously going to be linguistic and cultural influence, but at the same time being Shia Muslims and keeping your own identity probably maintained a your genetic heritage a lot longer. A friend of mine has Irish and Polish heritage, which is likely very different in their genetic origins, but since both cultures were Catholic, it it made sense that they'd mingle.
Autosomaly/genetically most hazaras are a mixture a of tajik-like individuals and Mongols. The region "Bamyan", which is nowadays mostly populated by hazaras, was mentioned in several Bactrian documents as a important stronghold.

The genetics of the Indo-Europeans are very controversial, I see many misconceptions there, I would really love a video on that topic as great and correct as this one!
It is also interesting topic how many Uralic (more exactly the original Ugric) related dna the Hungarians have, if it still exists. Because it is also disputed question if Hungarians used to shared genetic relationship with Uralic people or just it was a linguistic relationship. But a recent research has found a very small amount of Ugric related haplogroup in Hungary.

But in 9-10th century Hungarian tombs, the East Asian dna is much higher. Different estimates exist, but one research showed 37% (if I remember well) N1C in 9-10 century Hungarian findings
As all humans have a common ancestor. The most believed theory is that Homo-sapiens migrated from Africa to East Asia through the markings shown in the video. So basically, from East Africa to north Africa, north Africa to Middle East and to Central Asia and to the Himalayas and then up to the East Asia (all the while interbreeding with other species like Neanderthals and Denisovans).
There is a hypothesis that can be a theory at the same time that Gautam Buddha and Temujin Genghis Khan shared a common lineage closer than most people would think. Buddha was born in a tribe called Shakya when the area was a part of Kirat Dynasty and although quite far in distance to current day Mongolia. Some of the Kirat explorers must have went up north. A few hundred years after the Buddha was born and Buddhism was established, there was a place called Sakya in current day Mongolia. Genghis Khan's father was from a Kiyad tribe, Genghis Khan's first wife's father was from Khongkirat tribe. Genghis Khan respected all religions and was mostly spiritual, his kins were all mostly Buddhists. There's more to add here but for now I shall share this amount.

The Hazara people are one of the most unique, if not the most unique ethnic groups in Central Asia. While the people carry the Mongolic gene more than any other people in the Middle East, Central and South Asia, they speak a dialect of Persian closely related to Dari dialect spoken in Afghanistan. Furthermore, while almost all the neighbouring people in the regions are Sunni, the majority of Hazaras are Shia. This has made them the target of nationalistic groups in the past, especially the Pashtuns, leading to many atrocities against them in the past century. Unfortunately the situation has become much worse when Taliban took over in 1996 and now 2021.
As a Kurd, I wish them nothing but peace and happiness, even though thanks to people like Ashraf Ghani, Donald Trump and Joe Biden, the future seems grim for them.

I’m no expert in genetics at all, but I remember an article I read by Adam Rutherford, and he claimed that the last common ancestor for all Europeans lived only 600 years ago. Now Genghis Khan lived about 800 years ago, so I would guess that if the situation is similar in Asia, he should be an ancestor to a huge part of the billions living in Asia, way above the estimated 16 million. I have no way to prove that this is true, I just thought it was an interesting thought and worth a mention.

It doesn't matter what are race of the nobles. The nobles are always conscious of their blood line. This is because all these nobles have one thing in common. They claim to be "chosen one" to lead. Therefore, they are careful to choose their wives/concubines. Marriage is a form of alliances. Most of the time, they will choose from other nobles families to form alliances to consolidate their rule. Therefore, it is highly unlikely there are such a large number of Genghis Khan descendants.
Even without going into genealogical data the maths behind the claim would be hard to believe. Unless Genghis had super-human sperm and was able to impregnate a different women every day for 30yrs the likelihood that he'd have so many direct descendants now is very low.

I'm a Pakistani and I always assumed Hazaras were Mongoloid since I was just a teenager. They always appeared foreign in a crowd, exhibiting distinctly Mongolian features.
Looking beyond.. C is a pretty interesting haplogroup in itself, very ancient and is common ancestor to all out of Africa ethnicities, as A and B are the original Africans peoples ... Next is C! Australian Aborigines also have C.

I just checked about the Hazara people in Afghanistan, they don't really look East Asian but rather Eurasian, like they have Asian eyes but also fair skin and some of them apparently have light eyes. From the phenotype look, the Hazaras don't seem to be very "Mongolian looking" so to say...
Well that's obvious, since we Hazaras are descendants of both Turco-Mongols AND East Iranic people. We don't look like carbon copies of Mongols of course, because we are mixed. It's kinda similiar to how Mestizos were born in South America.

Excellent video. This is something that I have wondered about a lot. The one suggestion that I would make is to distinguish between "descendants" and "direct male descendants," as the term "descendants" is very broad and could refer to anyone who had Genghis Khan as an ancestor on either their mother or father's side. Y chromosomes are usually used in determining direct patrilineal heritage. Awesome video!
