This was the very first state opening of parliament in the reign of the late British monarch her majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 1952. The late monarch will go on to open Parliament every year except in 1959, 1963 and in 2022. In 1959 and 1963 she missed the event because she was expecting her sons Prince Andrew and Prince Edward respectively; I guess the monarch was represented by the the Lord chancellor in 1959 and 1963. On Tuesday the 10th of may 2022, then Prince Charles represented his mother Queen Elizabeth II at the event because she had mobility issues occasioned by her very old age. From a Nigerian who lives in Nigeria I say may God grant her majesty Queen Elizabeth II eternal rest, Amen.
