A point of correction. This technically is a trans fluid drain and not a flush. A flush is when you hook up a machine to your trans cooler line and run new fluid through the transmission which many mechanics don't recommend. What you replaced...about a gallon of old fluid you drained out and therefore refilled is only about 1/2 of the total trans fluid in the system. CVT's like your Honda has, as with conventional discrete shifting automatic transmissions, they also have a torque converter which is filled with trans fluid that isn't drained with your procedure. In summary, you are only draining about 1/2 of the total fluid from your trans with this procedure. Hope that helps others.
I would have been the dumb one to take my foot off the brake even knowing the car is on jack stands 😂😂 Glad it all went well! Those CVTs definitely need the fluid changed often
How is the Amsoil CVT fluid performing? I recommended it (drain and fill) to my sister for her Infiniti QX60 at 70k miles and it caused torque converter shudder. 😔 Infiniti dealer ended up saying she needs to get a transmission flush with the OEM Nissan NS-3 fluid. I’m scared to ever use Amsoil again. I got my Lexus drained and filled with Amsoil Signature ATF and no problems but the CVT fluid I wouldn’t ever recommend again.
Kayla, you wan't to start the car to temp then drain trans fluid while it's hot pour old oil in empty gallon bottle to measure exactly what came out so you're accurate refill again. pour in fluid start and let run again for 15 min with fresh oil then re-drain again to get the convertor of old fluid out, mark another gallon bottle for re-measurement (2x) pour in fresh fluid again check dip stick go through gears good to go i had a 2017 Nissan Versa with the CVT . if this helped give me a Kayla.
@Vic Older vehicles like the 2007 - 2012 Nissan models use the NS-2 fluid, while newer models like the 2013 - to date Nissan models use the NS-3 fluid. These new vehicles use NS-3 because they come with redesigned CVT engines.
Its great that you are using the check bolt. Was your Car LEVELED? Not sure if it really matters, but the instructions indicate opening the check bolt AFTER running through the gears.
Normally in a conventional automatic transmission I wouldn't flush it, I would just drain and refill. I would only flush it if it was more or less not working at all because then you have nothing to lose. But you are right to flush a CVT. They are a different animal and you have to maintain them differently.
Being a former Honda Tech use only Honda fluid for your transmission. Amsoil rep in Georgia said their product was the best for his Honda. We told him to use only Honda fluid or he will be back for a trans swap or rebuild. Well he ate crow and was back for us to swap his transmission out.
Im a Honda tech. U should always change the crush washer it may leak. And using factory fluid is the best for a honda. Honda oil powers F1 cars. I would trust Honda over amsoil anyday
@godsmackssa if your sisters car is from 2016-2021 and isn't a manual then it's a cvt. They didn't make a 10th gen civic that was traditional automatic. Just cvt and 6 speed manual. So unless your sister has a 3rd pedal then it's a cvt. Easiest way to tell if your sisters car is a 2.0 or 1.5t is the valve cover. The 1.5t wil literally say turbo.
I am always nervous but after doing it over and over again, it gets easier and you know the car is sturdy. Make sure to use extra jack stands and take all safety measures you can to make sure you'll be safe!
I looked it up and they recommend switching it out every 30,000 miles. But it's sad I had to look it up to know this information. No one ever reminds you to change the Trans fluid! Glad you know as well!!
@@KaylaRundle They learned better in later years. The system on some of these will tell you how much the fluid has degraded. My first CVT was a 2014 year Subaru Outback. When they said "lifetime Fluid", as an AMSOIL person, i knew that was lie. 30,000 miles sounds more like it. Im sure after many replacements, they wised up. I now have a 2011 i bought for my wife. Im planning to do a change on all the fluids shortly including the CVT. Im still getting used to it. i do not really have any to compare it too. In response to having to look it up, when i first had the 2014, they made it seem like an impossible task to change the CVT fluid. I think it was something they just wanted to rob you at the dealer with.

Did you notice smoother shifts with the Amsoil? I have the same car…. It shifts good. It only has 25,000 miles. I run the Amsoil signature oil in the Engine. I know CVT’s can be finicky, that’s why I was wondering about the oil.
Yes it was SO much smoother right away. I knew it was time to switch fluid when I could feel a "lag" between gears and even when accelerating it was much more violent than how it is with the new fluid. I was nervous at first to make the fluid switch but I haven't heard of a single problem using this fluid- unless the incorrect amount was poured into the trans.
Ewww CVT 😂jk, everyone needs a reliable daily. there will be a pickup filter inside the oil pan if you drop it, but that's not common procedure to change. And there should be a filter in the cvt fluid warmer as well, I believe underneath the battery box (which would need removed along with the battery). I don't think that's recommended to change either though, maybe at like 100k miles it would be worth it. Also is that a giant skeleton in the background? lmao
I don't know know about where you live, but in Middle Tennessee it's next to impossible to find a place that will accept used transmission fluid. Thanks for the video Kayla. God bless you.
@@Cultofpersonality09129 only one place where I live will accept it and that depends on who's working at the time. No shops will let someone bring in their own after doing it themselves. That cuts out work for them.
CVT transmissions are complete trash. I had one overheat multiple times and leave me sitting in Virginia until it cooled down , 8 hrs from home . The owners manual said it shouldn’t be run in excess of 70mph for extended periods of time. I traded that POS in as soon as I limped home with it , I’ll never own another one.
