Seiya is orginally "Sailor Star Fighter" which is in fact a woman. Seiya and his/her friends disguised themselves as men for the purpose of finding their lost princess. When they are men they are men ALL THE WAY, but when they transform they transform back into their orginal form which a female one. So I can you can say that Seiya is a lesiban in a way for having a crush on Usagi or whatever. All I care about is that Seiya is totally hot when he/she's a guy! ^_^ Usagi x Seiya!!

Up until this point, American producers had been very objectional to exactly what was dubbed, added, or even deleted from the show to make it "more appropriate" for young american viewers. Seiya, Yaten, and Taiki were dubbed "inappropriate for young viewers due to the nature of the characters conditions." Japanese producers would not allow the characters to changed.

In the anime the starlights are guys and turn into girls. You can tell during the transformation sequence. The body is masculine then becomes feminine. That's the gist of it.

@MoonFaceBunny they were never reborn on earth ... not in the anime nor in the manga ... they were from another planet all together. the animators screwed up. seiya, yaten and taiki were only pretending to be boys [as in dressing up as them] in the manga to sing for their princess while searching for them. in the anime to steer clear of another michiruxharuka thing ... they made the starlights male in civilian form and female in senshi form. oh and fun seiya > boring mamoru. just saying.
