Bee Gees - How Deep Is Your Love | Chord Progressions Tutorial (First Verse, Pre-Chorus & Chorus)

Welcome to this piano tutorial dedicated to the chord progressions used in one of the most captivating songs by the Bee Gees: "How Deep Is Your Love". This tutorial focuses on the chords of the first section of the piece (first verse, pre-chorus, and chorus).
I have played the chords in a schematic way, without replicating the exact electric piano part of the song. The purpose of this tutorial is to showcase the beautiful progressions employed in this piece.
I have also added a background melody that provides an imprint of the main vocal line, solely to enhance the appreciation of the various chord transitions.
A note regarding the G7 chord that I indicated in the harmonic analysis as V7/vi: the G7 chord, while functioning as a dominant seventh chord leading to the relative minor (Cm), creates an interesting harmonic tension. Instead of resolving to Cm, it transitions directly to Bbsus4,7,9, which is the V chord in the key of Eb major. This unexpected shift can be interpreted as a sort of deceptive cadence, where the expectation of resolving to the tonic (i degree of the temporary C minor key) is subverted.
And about that Bbsus4,7,9: you can easily see (and play it) as Ab/Bb. If viewed this way, the change from G7 to Ab could even more be seen as a deceptive cadence in the hypothetical key of Cm, with the typical movement from V7 to VI.
However, within the overall context of the song's key, I prefer to consider that Ab/Bb as a Bbsus. Perhaps it is precisely this dual role of the Ab/Bb chord that makes it so interesting.
A final note: In some cases, like the chord I indicated as C(7) with the extension in parentheses, I may have intentionally omitted a chord extension during the performance, even though it can be heard in the original recording.
