- The #atlantic and #pacific Oceans do not mix due to differences in salinity, temperature, and density of water in these two oceans. The Atlantic Ocean is saltier and denser than the Pacific Ocean, creating a rough margin along its waters called Halocline. This difference in salinity prevents the two oceans from mixing, even though the water from the two oceans does mix but at a much slower rate.
The mix of water from the two oceans is also hindered by differences in water density, caused by variations in temperature and salinity, resulting in a phenomenon known as thermohaline circulation. Additionally, the difference in the density between the water from the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans is not significant enough for one to sink and the other to rise, which further prevents the mix.
In conclusion, the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans don't mix due to differences in their chemical properties that cause them to behave differently. The main factors that prevent the mix of the two oceans are differences in salinity, temperature, and density of water in the two oceans, resulting in a phenomenon called thermohaline circulation.

The Arabic word used in the Quran is “Bahr بحر". If you look it up in any Arabic dictionary you’ll find that it means a body of fresh or salty water.

Allah(swt) in the 1400 said that he put a curtain across them in a surah. These two ocean meet only in the strait of Magellan at the most southern tip of South America and northern Antarctica. This area is the most stormy region of the world which makes the two waters mix anyway and you won't be able to distinguish them from each other due to the windy wild weather and the very high waves.

They actually do mix slowly. The higher density salt will eventually filter into the lower density water. The heavier density will be deeper and the lighter densities will be closer to the surface most of the slow mixing will happen close to the surface though salt is exchanged at all levels it will mix more rapidly at higher levels.

These aren't two oceans meeting, they're freshwater meeting saltwater and because they have different densities, they don't like to mix and only diffuse very slowly.

Two main factors come in to play here the salinity factor, i.e. salt in the water and the temperature. Waters of the Pacific are less salty and they are warmer. Waters of the Atlantic are more salty and they are colder. They actually do mix at a point and it’s called a boundary layer. However, this rarely happens on the surface of the water.

I didn't think anything of that until I moved from the West Coast to the East Coast. The rain on the East Coast falls differently than on the West. The water is thicker, somehow, and it sticks to the windshield unlike West Coast rain. I took my car, that I bought on the West Coast, with me to the East Coast and the rain would just slide right off the windshield whenever my state would get a storm. I drove in multiple rainstorms on the East Coast and it was like the rain didn't want to leave my windshield, it was crazy. My husband felt the same way and we just thought we were being silly... but couldn't get over it everytime it rained. Hearing that Atlantic water has more salt and is therefore more dense, now makes sense as to why it acts differently on the windshield. It technically is thicker/denser. I don't think we're so silly now.

I have been reading about it, and that guy is speaking nonsense. It’s called thermohaline circulation, which is causing ocean currents (variation of salinity and density of sea water caused by wind evaporation, cooling and freezing etc).
It’s not a barrier but circular currents flow near the surface to the poles, sink and flow underneath away from the poles.. generally.
Atlantic Ocean is more salty than the Pacific, but it’s not the reason why they don’t mix. Both are separated by the South American land mass with their own ocean bed topography and have their own circulations.
Although they meet near the Antarctic, there’s little mixing because of separate circulations.

Two separate water bodies with different densities mix perfectly well.
For that we will need to go molecular and you will see sodium in water is surrounded by water molecules this water molecules have a limited amount of h bonds with the sodium not allowing for others to do so, so it kicks other waters out, so not mixing but it can be mixed with enough kinetic energy but waves don’t cause they only transfer energy perpendicular so no mixing is done

The reason why the colors of these waters differ from each other is due to many factors, from microparticles, especially iron, to some types of sediments and in some cases also to temperature differences. It is known that this image has no direct relationship with salinity; In other words, as stated, there is no fresh water and salt water that don't mix. Also there is a mixture of fresh water and salt water, you can even try it yourself in your kitchen!
