Mr. Ross, As a Texas hill country transplant to the coast, I grew up fishing only freshwater. I've been doing good on the Reds and Flounder lately and I truly owe it to you and your videos. Thank you sir!
Awesome video Ross. I'm in Tennessee and fish the Florida panhandle twice a year. For two or three weeks each time. These tips will really come in handy. Love your videos. Thanks again.
Hey Ross, when you're healed up and start fishing again, I like to make a suggestion. can you make a reference on the tactic based on the weather condition, such as, anchoring, drifting or just using trolling motor to stay within range of shore line, etc. I hope I make sense of what I'm talking about. thanks and keep the videos coming.
You should be charging for this information RedfishRoss! It's the little things, and reminders of the little things that catch you fish. Simple and effective tools when properly executed! Keep up the good work sir!
I loved your idea on keeping a log to keep record of how the fishing day went. I will try this idea to replicate my successful fishing days and to learn from the not so good ones. Thanks, keep sharing
Thank you for all of your information, I have learned so much from your videos. I don't get down there very often, but when I do I rely on what I have learned form you.
I'm in Charleston SC yesterday I got a day that started out at 39 degrees air temperature at daylight but quickly warmed up to low 60 slightly overcast. Perfect day right (not)It was 2 days off a cold front and a day or 2 before another one. Fished outgoing and incoming sides of tide. Fished deep and shallow creeks and open water and docks. No bites no trout no reds nothing Any suggestion on what might have shut them down completely on what seemed to be a good day. Thanks water temp was 52 53 I had been catching them on worse days in the last month
Frank Wyndham Hey Frank , having no knowledge of that area it would be hard for me to make an opinion , but that water temp is getting close to making them go deep or get pretty sluggish. Don’t know if you were fishing lures or bait which makes a big difference also. Was the water that cold when you did good ?
Love your videos. Always inspiring! I see that sometimes you use spinning gear and other times a baitcaster. Does one type reel work better for a certain type lure? Or is there a different reason for using one type vs the other type? Thanks again for all your information!
This is such good info I had to annotate -Don't teach too many secrets!! -I love the cow analogy for flood tides I will have to use it ;) -for those cold and sunny days I'm always looking for the black mud because it heats up the water -And you are great at speaking I could not do that in one take
Great information Mr. Ross! I like watching your videos and learn more from you than any other. I bought a place down here couple years ago and have been learning estes flats, mud island etc. Seems I have better trout fishing experience down here in the winter pattern! Keep on fishing!
Good one, Ross! I learned a lot. I especially liked that part about fish looking for new water on the big flood tides. I never thought about it in quite that way. I really appreciate your insight. Thanks!
+Bob Glassen I agree with the premise. I think I know quite a bit about fresh water fishing. When a lake has been down for quite some time and then gets back to the level it is supposed to be at, the new growth in those areas is ALWAYS conducive to bringing in fish. Stands to reason the same would apply to salt water. Anytime a Lake comes back up you can always count on the numbers of fish going up in a couple of years because you are going to have a more succesful spawn because the fingerlings have a better chance of making it because they have more cover.
Thanks for the great info Ross!!! Lately I've been feeling like I've forgotten how to catch fish, I'm going to try some of these tips start a log this weekend. Merry Christmas
Regarding the wind, are there certain wind directions that when you wake up and see that makes you say "guess I am playing golf today" or is there a wind direction that makes you call the course and cancel your tee time because now you are going fishing instead? I really enjoy your videos. Thanks for taking the time to do them.
When fishing the flats on a windy day, lets say 13mph and up, do you try and fish wind protected areas or are you out in the open still working potholes? Thanks Redfish Ross.
Still playing Catch-Up on all your videos. Great content as always. I appreciate the knowledge you provide. Have not seen one of your videos yet that was a waste of my time, unlike so many others out there. One day I will get current on your vids, I'm working on it.
What area are your "home" waters Redfish Ross? I play the water level at the ramp, as well, but I don't have a skinny water boat, so the tides really dictate my target fishing areas. My "home" water is Galveston bay, but a buddy of mine, and I plan to fish down the coast this year. I'd like to be familiar enough in the next few years to put in anywhere between Galveston and Rockport, and have a good time. Love your channel! Keep it up!
+RedfishRoss I'm a kayaker who fishes the marshes in the Galveston/Freeport area so wind can be a big factor to me too. Wouldn't wanna get caught in a strong head wind as i'm paddling back to shore lol
Hey bud got a question. We (NC) have marsh (channels) with some small bays mixed. When fishing an area like this What do you do? Do you troll around edges of bays blind casting Do you troll up marsh creeks blind casting? Oyster bars how do you fish them? Some of our bars are almost out or half out of the water. Do you throw around them? Creek mouth openings Blind cast? I know a lot of questions but always looking for ideas and options? Thanks and good video.
Yea sounds like what we got. Dirty water. Shallow and if you miss the tide you can get stuck out there. Got to be careful. Soft plastics are what I was thinking like the idea if the spoons but never put too much effort in them. Will have to remember them next time. Used redfish magic with great bites change out and put gulp on it. Thanks again and keep pounding.
REDFISH ROSS, im a new subscriber. Fantastic videos! I live in San Antonio thwrefore i have to really do homework if I plan heading to the bays or surf. Can u give me some pointers regarding long distance coastal fishing trips?
I have a question. I am kind of superstitious when it comes to targeting trout. I'm my mind I feel I need to find an area that's 3 to 6ft deep with clean trout green water with a grassy bottom. My question is, Am I wrong? Can i find keeper trout in the flats or do i need to find deeper water. I only say this cause I grew up fishing port Mansfield and now fishing up here I can't catch a trout to save my life. Silly I know. And I only throw lures in port Mansfield cause up here they don't work for me. That's just another superstition I have. Sorry.

Juan Cantellops Yes I understand what your saying , I will try and add that info in the future.
@@redfishross thanks Red, still learning how to be a salt water angler.
Thanks for the advice for us novice fisherman!

Redfish, what is your opinion as to what causes slicks on the water?
thanks
john
Slime excreted by excited predator fish and bait fish being torn up when eaten.

Ross,
Good stuff my friend. I'm in NC, not exactly the same as where you're at. I'll keep what you say in mind. Thx, Dean
Thanks so much for this info!! Quick question, where do you check your weather? NOAA?
When fishing the flats on a windy day, lets say 13mph and up, do you try and fish wind protected areas or are you out in the open still working potholes? Thanks Redfish Ross.

RedfishRoss Well, if we ever get down that far, maybe we can hook up, and wet a line together. Thanks for the reply, and wishing you good fishing!
Thank u VERY much. Is there a certain barometric pressure # that you like to see?
+RedfishRoss I'm a kayaker who fishes the marshes in the Galveston/Freeport area so wind can be a big factor to me too. Wouldn't wanna get caught in a strong head wind as i'm paddling back to shore lol
Can you tell me a little bit about the barometric pressure? When do you know what a good level is?
+RedfishRoss sweet. Live in west Texas so we crave going down there a lot. Love learning from you!

By the way love your channel and appreciate any advice you can give to a very confused fisherman now
Frank Wyndham Thanks Frank , I answered in your other comment.
Fished mostly zman ned rigs or trout trick on trout eye also tried doa shrimp under popping cork usually don't fish baits until I locate them
Frank Wyndham With water that cold I would go with a big paddle tail like the Havoc Grass Pig slow rolled close to the bottom. Tight Lines.
Great Info!
Great informative video.
Detective Mike Varnado Thank you.

I subscribed and love your videos. I noticed you always release your catch. Do ever keep any or just do it for the sport? Just curious.
Hey thanks Juan , yes I do keep one when I get hungry for fish. Here is a Catch and Cook I did not long ago.ruclips.net/video/Yfmx9khRO30/видео.html
Hey just subscribed. Enjoyed the video!
What type of Bait do you normally use
Thanks
